Radicals’ Plans for GOP Convention Not Dampened

Dangerous, violent, left-wing radicals don’t seem to be backing down from their plans to shut down the Republican national convention in Tampa Bay even as an increasingly dangerous, violent tropical storm bears down on Florida.

A protester has already been arrested at the convention for carrying a large machete strapped to his leg. Jason T. Wilson of Tallahassee was taken into custody while walking on the convention grounds. Police say Wilson refused to stop when asked and was physically restrained when he resisted arrest.

The Left is pursuing a two-pronged strategy aimed at preventing Republicans from getting their message to the American people. Both the protesters, who are drawn largely from the ranks of the violent communist-anarchist Occupy Wall Street movement, and President Obama’s reelection campaign are now planning to interfere with the Republican convention. The former will use physical force; the latter, the media.

Protest leaders and hackers say the mischief and mayhem they’ve planned will proceed even though Republican organizers have compressed the convention schedule because of the storm. Activists and union members shipped in to Florida plan not only to disrupt the GOP mass meeting at which former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be formally nominated for the presidency but also to shut down emergency services in Tampa.

Brandon Darby, a former community organizer, says anarchist Lisa Fithian, who led the union goons and anarchists who rioted during the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle, is at the forefront of the current anti-Republican protests.

Led by Fithian, demonstrators intend to throw bricks through windows, slash tires on buses, and throw bleach and urine at delegates, said Darby, an ex-leftist despised by radicals for undermining a left-wing conspiracy to bomb the 2008 Republican national convention in Minnesota.

All of this is really happening, Darby said. “They’re trying to shut down the communications structure for the city for law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.”

With these leftists, “[i]t’s not like a bunch of people are going to show up and talk on their cell phones. They have some massive computer equipment and their goal is to shut us down.”

Senior Democrats intend to complement the activists’ efforts.

Although both the Republican and Democratic parties have long refrained from trying to grab the media spotlight while the other is conducting its nominating convention, this coming week President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and an army of Democratic surrogates are scheduled to visit the Sunshine State in order to undermine Republicans’ message. While high-profile Democrats blanket the state, the Obama administration’s OWS allies will do their best to harass and interfere with Republican delegates attempting to do their civic duty.

Jim_C, Amused, tickybrain, and Schomotion will disagree and say that Matthew Vadum is paranoid. Do we need out-and-out riots with fire-bombing and dead-bodies to prove that OWS is NOT the TeaParty?

    • JarheadAviator

I haven't seen OWS riot even in the face of police oppression, the likes of which the Tea Party rallies never saw. I suppose if OWS came legally armed, they'd be oppressed a little less.

      • fiddler

Well, Oakland (for one) had a little skirmish so much so that the Mayor decided (in the spirit of political correctness) to throw the police department under the bus for alleged brutality while trying to dispurse hostiles.

      • Omar

There were some SEIU members assaulting Tea Party demonstrators in 2009. Check the Kenneth Gladney story for details.
As for no riots at OWS, there were plenty of cases of riots during OWS rallies. Oakland as an example.

      • Choi

It's hard to believe that a poster identifying himself/herself as a Marine Aviator would be an AMERICA-HATING LEFTY ,unless you're goal is to DISHONOR Marine Corps Aviators while taking a shot FROM THE LEFT.

    • Jim_C

      You're right, I would say it's paranoid.

But I also hope any violent mischief-makers at the convention get their @sses kicked.

  • Omar

Why doesn't OWS protest against regimes like the Castro brothers in Cuba. That regime, along with its allies have committed human rights violations for a long time.

    • JarheadAviator

So has the U.S. regime for the last 11 years.

      • Omar

First of all, the United States is not a regime. It is a democratic government which generally respects the rule of law among its citizens. The War on Terror is a response to the unprovoked attacks inflicted against us by totalitarian forces ordered by al-Qaeda. Sure, America isn't perfect, but we have a much better political, economic and social system than our totalitarian enemies. That's a fact. OWS radicals and their supporters want to destroy the very democratic system that makes America great. This next election is a battle between democracy (American people and their supporters) and tyranny (OWS radicals and their supporters). That's another fact.

      • SCREW SOCIALISM

        JackassHead,

        You seem to be uneducated.

The Castro regime took over Cuba in 1959. It's been the Castro dictatorship ever since then. When when your Fidel couldn't stand, who replaced Fidel? His broth Raul Castro. When Fidel got sick, he ended up on France for medical care that he trusted more than the care in his own country with the claimed "best medical care" in the Caribbean/Western Hemisphere.

A family dictatorship like North Korea, Syria.

    Blimpy's got a "conspiracy theory " –
Walking his audience through the timeline of events leading to the Republicans delaying their convention by a day, Limbaugh launched into a conspiracy theory, all the while denying that he was suggesting anything by it: “And I noticed that the hurricane center’s track is — and I’m not alleging conspiracies here. The hurricane center is the regime; the hurricane center is the Commerce Department”:
    It’s the government. It’s Obama.
And I’m noticing that that track stayed zeroed in on Tampa day after day after day. And the Republicans react to it accordingly over the weekend, canceling the first day of the convention. What could be better for the Democrats than the Republicans to cancel a day of this? [...]

At 6:45 p.m. Saturday night, everybody is still under the impression that Isaac is making a beeline for very close to Tampa. It was an hour and 15 minutes later that the eight p.m. model runs showed New Orleans. I’m alleging no conspiracy. Lisa Filthian is a real piece of work. I don't think they will be able to do much at all – they will definitely get wet but time will tell. I think Biden bailed as did the other senior Democrat figures – afraid to get wet..

    • Questions

I've written articles about this woman, Lisa Fithian. You can believe anything about her. Based in Austin, the 50-ish Fithian a nut. She actually rejoiced over the 9/11 attacks.

  • cynthia curran

Well, the black Panters or Brown Berets that are allied with Occupy are smarter than the whites since the whites are the ones that do the violence.

  • BS77

I am sick of seeing those self righteous morons in those V movie masks…..Occupy is a steaming pile of garbage.
All they bring to the table is broken windows and their idiotic posturing…..They do not represent the 99%, they represent less than 1%…..These are anarchists, marching morons and street bums throwing rocks.

    • Omar

The real 99% of Americans support our country and respect the rule of law. OWS represent the real 1%. Also, many of OWS's support come from rich, famous and arrogant people like Roseanne Barr and Michael Moore. OWS doesn't care about the poor, it only cares about imposing communist totalitarianism in America.

    • Jim_C

OWS is like the TEA party…a mixed bag.

Grab one of either party, you'll get an eloquent defense of certain American ideals.

Grab another, and you'll get someone who has no idea what they're protesting about.

      • Omar

OWS is not like the Tea Party. There's no comparison between the two. The Tea Party cares about the well being of this country and its democratic system. OWS on the other hand, wants to undermine our democracy and impose communist totalitarian. OWS has received endorsements from many radical and extremist groups, including Communist Party USA, the American Nazi Party, anarchist groups and many others. Notable radicals like Bill Ayers have endorsed OWS and its extremist agenda.

    • tagalog

At least they're not wearing Nixon and Reagan masks like they used to.

      • Omar

But they have worn Bush masks during so-called "anti-war" protests over the last several years.

  • Kevin

Liberals are the spoiled brat children of the American political family. I fully expect one of their mobs to threaten that they will hold their breath until they turn blue. Supposed adults acting this way is a sure sign of arrested development in the participants. Sick. World War III better not happen because this nation will surrender rather than fight, much like the left wanted to do in the fight against the Muslim savages when Bush was President. Now they have a commie in office, and they ignore any and all military actions.

    • Questions

These are radicals, not liberals. I resent the conflating of the two.

    • Omar

Conservatives are the real classical liberals. Today's so-called "liberals" are leftists funded in part by billionaires like George Soros.

  • scum

OK, time for the REAL STORY: First, Vadum cites his own article of Apr 2010 in which he claims that the NY Times ignored the Darby informant story. Apparently he missed the Jan 9, 2009 NY Times article which detailed it. LET'S MOVE ON: What is Vadum's evidence for Tampa mayhem? He's apparently spoken to Darby, WHO IS NO LONGER A PART OF THE MOVEMENT. Nor is Vadum here in Tampa, or he would surely have a more accurate take on it. I, however, spent my own $$ to come get the REAL STORY. I was one of two who saw (and filmed) the machete arrest. Wilson had a small Leatherman machete strapped to his leg, and thought he was exercising his constitutional rights. He never brandished it, there was no evidence he planned to use it (and there was no PLACE to use it, as the march ended at a vacant lot in front of the barricades, 3 blocks from the Forum). The police arrested him professionally, and all protesters agreed Wilson was stupid for carrying the knife. CONT. on next post…….

  • scum

TAMPA, PART TWO: OWS here is clearly decentralized, with disparate groups, about 300 strong at the most. There are large numbers of reporters/observers, including the National Lawyers Guild, which make it look larger. Vadum claims tires will be slashed, and bricks thrown. There are no parked vehicles within about a mile of the convention, and I don't see any buses. Yesterday there were Romney delegates near the protesters who were not heckled. In the middle of the most tense moment a young Romney supporter went into the crowd and started yelling "Romney" in good fun. He was not interfered with. PART THREE COMING:

    • tagalog

When I went to antiwar demonstrations a lifetime ago, the tire-slashing often took place as the demonstrators were heading home. So I would venture to guess that vehicles parked a mile away are not completely free of risk.

  • scum

TAMPA, PART THREE: Tampa is militarily occupied. Aprroximately 30 agencies have converged. The LEGAL protest marches, for which permits have been secured, are pre-planned, with local police and sheriffs on ALL SIDES OFTHE PROTESTERS. They serve as the obvious crowd control and to as traffic control. Municipal buildings are closed with 4-5 metal barricades, and National Guardsmen with machine guns behind. NO VEHICLES are parked in the streets. Yesterday, the march went downtown, where the 300 protesters/photographers/observers massed for a time on a blocked off street next to Lykes park. SEE PART FOUR…

    • tagalog

If Tampa were militarily occupied, you'd be more conscious of it than you would want to be, with MPs directing traffic, 19-year-olds with their M-4s and M-16s walking the sidewalks, a curfew imposed, certain places demarked as OFF LIMITS, jeeps with mounted M-60s cruising the streets, and so on.

If Tampa were militarily occupied, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN would be trumpeting that fact.

  • scum

TAMPA, PART FOUR: When the 300 massed, the crowd started to fizzle, which left maybe 100 TOTAL individuals in the street. On one side was a regiment of approx. 30 police in full riot gear. Police flanked both sides with batons/bikes. Behind us was another line of police. One block away ANOTHER line of police. In a parking garage (which was closed) I could see National Guardsmen and others standing. There were NO ALTERCATIONS. When the police chief announced finally that he would like to clear the street for traffic, even the young BLACK BLOCkers agreed and we all moved. At that point, ANOTHER REGIMENT of riot police showed up. Unbelievably, they were followed by ANOTHER REGIMENT of riot police (each was about 30 strong). No protesters had weapons of any kind. When we all dispersed, there was general goodwill between police and protesters, with many cordially bading each other goodbye. (Many of us congregated peacefully under the same roofs because of the rain that had just move in.)

    • tagalog

The use of the term "regiment" brings to mind a force of 2,000 or 3,000 troops. Do you mean "regiment" or "detail?" Police departments, while somewhat paramilitary in some ways, usually don't organize their forces into such groups as regiments, battalions, etc.

      • amused

        • tagalog

I know, as a sycophantic lackey I'm in an uproar. Woof.

  • tagalog

What I find more disturbing than a person wearing a machete to a demonstration is that the person wearing the machete refused to stop when told to do so by the police. This conduct bespeaks a kind of arrogance that says "I can do whatever I want to do without regard to the constraints of authority." That sort of attitude in an armed person is worrisome. Surely everyone would agree that the police were acting appropriately in making inquiry of Mr. Wilson, the machete-displayer.

    • Amused

Learn how to read tagalog "The police arrested him professionally, and all protesters agreed Wilson was stupid for carrying the knife. " endquote
That's what 'scum " wrote .Nobody's disagreeing , nobody'e approvoing of the guy , EVERYONE agrees he should have been arrested .
What are you shadow boxing for ? , WHO are shadow boxing with ??
Maybe you conservatives have forgotten ,this is America where there is FREEDOM TO ASSEMBLY ,and FREEDOM TO PEACEFULLY PROTEST , and that is exactly what went down . You're biting Vadum's hook eh ?

      • tagalog

Reading comprehension, Ammy. Reading comprehension. I said nothing about the machete-wearer's impact on his compatriots, only about him.

I was shadow-boxing early in the day,
I figured I was ready for Cassius Clay!
I said "fee fie foe fum,
        Cassius Clay here I come!"

I am sure that the RNC will be more than safe from a boy in a mask considering the massive outpouring of military hardware, cordoning, padding, assault rifles, grenades, bullets, helicopters, drones, Coast Guard, paramilitary security organizations, the no-boat zone, the no-shipping zone, the FBI, FEMA, DHS agents, and the ubiquitous surveillance.

Heck, with the rolls of orange silt fencing, the Republicans and their hired police will even be safe from the clear and present danger of girls on the sidewalk.

Samuel L. Jackson is reported as questioning God's plan when God's plan doesn't seem to involve the Republican Convention being disrupted by Hurricane (?) Isaac.

Ellen Barkin wants Hurricane (?) Isaac to wash the Republican "SOBs" into the sea.

And the Republicans and conservatives in general are seen as haters, while the lefties get a pass. I agree with Samuel L. Jackson: God's plan for Americans is indeed perplexing to me.

    • Questions

Samuel L. Jackson is a black power advocate. He's a great actor. It's unfortunate he's a nut as well. That's the way it is with most blacks.

G_D'S PLAN ????? G_D ain't got nothing to do with this political BULLSHEEET > You people are beginning to sound like the muslims ……Obama calls the National Hurricane Center and "orders them" to change the projected track of TS Isacc , just to mess up the RNC Convention [ so says Blimpy Limbaugh ] , now idiots on either side have got The Almighty directing storms according to politics ….what a bunch of deluded screwballs !!!

    • tagalog

Actually, I don't think President Obama ordered Hurricane (?) Isaac to change its course; I think instead President Obama intends to upstage the Republican Convention by campaigning in Florida this week.

The talk about God's plan is coming from lefty Samuel L. Jackson.

G-d? Are you Jewish? If so, you know all about God's plan. You're under contract to Him.

Hot bed of radical politics low home ownership San Francisco only 39 percent home ownership and high income Marin at 64 percent versus 70 percent for Riverside. Los Angeles is now only 48 precent, a lot of this is the price of housing getting jack up but LA was ground zero for a lot of illegal and legal immigrants that brought housing prices in low income areas by having several family members. The same thing is now happening in Texas during the illegal immigrant boom in Texas, Harris now only has 57 percent home ownership and Dallas about 55 and Austin a low 52 no wonder Austin is the most liberal area in Texas. Immigrant families again repeating what turn place in California to Texas. Texas has about now 64 percent home ownership while Florida who also received Hispanic immigrants but not all at the lower skilled level is 69 percent and a lot of other Southern States mainly with black populations don't have this problem with home ownership MIss is near 70 percent and NC around 68 percent. Granted, Vermont has high home ownership and is very liberal and radical exceptions to the rule.

    • Questions

San Francisco is rather unique case — very high prices, relatively few detached SFU dwellings, and lots of young whites starting out in tech and nonprofit jobs. As for radicalism, remember that San Francisco also has a strong libertarian Right tradition; this is where the Cato Institute was founded in the late 70s and where Laissez Faire Books still operates.

Philadelphia, despite more widespread poverty, actually has a significantly higher homeownership rate.
