The Autoworkers Obama Left Behind

Pages: 1 2

The White House fairy tale about the Happily Ever After Auto Bailout is missing a crucial, bloody page. While President Obama bragged about “standing by American workers” at a rowdy United Auto Workers meeting Tuesday, he failed to acknowledge how the Chicago-style deal threw tens of thousands of nonunion autoworkers under the bus.

In a campaign pep rally/sermon billed as a “policy speech,” Obama nearly broke his arm patting himself on the back for placing his “bets” (read: our money) on the $85 billion federal auto industry rescue. “Three years later,” he crowed, “that bet is paying off for America.” Big Labor brass cheered Obama’s citation of GM’s “highest profits in its 100-year history” as the room filled with militant UAW chants of “union made.”

“Union made” — but who paid? Scoffing at the criticism that his bailout was a massive union payoff, Obama countered that all workers sacrificed to save the auto industry. “Retirees saw a reduction in the health care benefits they had earned,” Obama told the congregation, er, crowd. “Many of you saw hours reduced,” he sympathized, “or pay and wages scaled back.”

Let’s clear the fumes (again), shall we? The bailout pain was not distributed equally. It was redistributed politically.

Bondholders standing up for their property and contractual rights got shortchanged and demonized personally by the president. Dealers and suppliers faced closures based on political connections and lobbying clout, rather than neutral efficiency evaluations. And as I first reported in September 2010, in the rush to nationalize the auto industry and avoid contested court termination proceedings, the White House auto team schemed with Big Labor bosses to preserve UAW members’ costly pension funds by shafting their nonunion counterparts.

Obama and his minions have carried out mini-coups throughout the government and economy, and the first substantial fascist power grab was GM. Hopefully the full story of the impeachable offense committed by Obama against the non-union GM workers, bond holders, and dealers, will be revealed well before the election. Unfortunately, it will be immediately entombed in the Marxist media's overstuffed mausoleum for Obama exposes. Maybe a major lawsuit will force attention on the sordid affair.

Are they going to pay back the (former) bondholders too? Or are the bondholders just plain ripped off?

I don't have time to check your rosy claims, but you can count me in the (extremely) skeptical camp.

What people like you fail to comprehend is that, had the auto companies gone into proper bankruptcy, they could have been bought and restructured under new management. Had that happened the way it should have according to law, they might be stronger than they are now.

Oh, by the way, how much did you pay the last time you filled your tank? That should be good for the auto industry, eh?

Bemused, you're ranting incoherently, yet again. before you make an even bigger fool of yourself, if that's possible, go back and read the article again. Maybe you'll understand it with repeated readings…..it's possible.

YOU PEOPLE TRULY DO NOT DESERVE TO WIN ANY ELECTION ,AND HAVE NO BUISINESS GOVERNING ….Until you figure out whether you're for YOUR PARTY / OR // YOUR COUNTRY .

When health care rationing comes, and it will under obamacare, expect him to grant "front of the line" status to union members. It's the only way to increase union membership in this country and it's right in line with most unions……"JOIN US OR DIE"

Save your "kill grandma " mantra , you're just as befuddled and confused as Malkin . First she was on the anti-union soap box ,can';t find anything there , hows about a faux,B.S. story about suppliers .

Those of you condemning Ms Malkin demonstrate you are part of the mindless left who can't think for yourselves. I know this article may be beyond your ability to critically think but I will try to help you understand. The autoworkers who received the short end negotiated for their retirement, insurance, etc… just as the union workers did. The difference is they are American workers loyal to their employer and were not part of a collective bargaining entity such as a union. Since they were not part of a union and did not contribute to Obama as a collective (as the unions did) they were punished. If Obama were interested in the American worker he would have looked out for all their welfare instead of just union members. If you cannot see and understand he is not interested in the American worker. he is only interested in protecting his donor base so he can get reelected. For those of you who voted for Obama to show you are not prejudice, then you must vote against him to prove you are not an idiot!

I don't need to condemn Malkin , her own mouth does .Speaking of Idiots , you've got TWO – Romney and Santorum ,and you have NO CHOICE but to prove you are an IDIOT , and vote for one . LOL….good luck with that chump .

If anyone has any doubts about Obama and his administration's attempt to kill off non-union jobs take a look at what is happening to Gibson Guitars.

That's just bad legislation from the 90's . How in hell do you construe that to be an attack on non-union jobs ? What about the union truckers who ship to the end user ? And everyone in between ?
You're all wet pagegl . Are you attempting a game of turnaround , in that it is the conservative right , that without apology has GONE AFTER UNION WORKERS ?
Anyone who's ACTUALLY WORKED FOR A LIVING KNOWS , the very term and practice called right to work is simply union busting legislated into law , buy the bribes big buisiness lobbies slip to the lawmakers .Koch Bros.& Walker already proved that .
