Did the Muslim Brotherhood Really Win the Presidency in Egypt?

The one and only positive point that every Western commentator, beginning with Barrack Hussein Obama, has pointed to regarding the victory of an Islamist president in Egypt, is that it was done through democracy—through elections, fair and square.  It was the “will of the people” and so must be respected.

Yet, even that, too, is under question.  In fact, last week Ahmed Shafiq, Morsi’s secular opponent for the presidency, “filed a complaint with the public prosecution alleging numerous irregularities and violations during the presidential runoff elections held in June,” citing “specific instances of alleged forgery, such as rigging ballots and importing pens with removable ink to invalidate them.”

I had written about some of these “numerous irregularities,” including how the Muslim Brotherhood bought votes from Egypt’s many poor by bribing them with food and how MB official Khairat al-Shater sent a memo to members ordering them to “resort to any method that can change the vote.” Accordingly, in the words of Al Ahram, “the Muslim Brotherhood blockaded entire streets, prevented Copts from voting at gunpoint, and threatened Christian families not to let their children go out and vote.”

One of the most formal proofs, however, has been completely overlooked in the West.

Enter Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, a longtime political dissent who was imprisoned under Hosni Mubarak’s rule, currently an American University of Cairo professor of political science and head of Egypt’s Ibn Khaldun Center, which closely monitored Egypt’s presidential elections.  According to him, the secular candidate, Shafiq, did, in fact, defeat the Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsi in the presidential elections, by some 30,000 votes.  He has stressed this point several times, most recently on this Egyptian TV program, a translation of which follows:

The elections that brought President Muhammad Morsi to power are of questionable legitimacy. First, the results were withheld for three days. Second, many rumors arose concerning them, about the practice of pressure, threats and attempts of suicide attacks and the bombing of public properties, all of which caused the Military Council—or so it was said or alleged—to favor the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, despite the rather slight margins that necessitated either an election redo or re-tabulation or at least a vote recount.

There is, of course, another reason why the military favored Morsi: the Obama administration pressured it.  After all, it was precisely during those three days that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as Andrew McCarthy put it,  did “her part to help the Muslim Brotherhood,” by pressuring the military to surrender power and portraying its delay to proclaim a winner as “clearly troubling”—words better reserved for the Muslim Brotherhood’s anti-democratic tactics.

Saad Eddin continues:

We here at the Ibn Khaldun Center, through 7,000 field monitors, monitored the elections, and, according to our data, Shafiq won these elections, by a margin of 30,000 votes.

He further went on to confirm, according to Gate Ahram (translated by Coptic Solidarity) that the “Ibn Khaldun Center had announced the result directly after the end of the voting process, and a report was being issued every 8 hours, pointing out that several other centers had announced the same result [victory of Shafiq], while others had monitored it but were too intimidated to announce it.  [Saad Eddin] Ibrahim added that a delegation from the Muslim Brotherhood traveled to the US right before the second election round. Brotherhood members were expecting the US to formally deny this, but the US ambassador and other sources have confirmed the trip, allowing no room for denial.”

It appears, then, that the one saving grace concerning the victory of an Islamist president—that he was elected through a fair democratic process—is no saving grace at all; and history will record that, through deceit, bribes, violence and threats, the Islamists took control of Egypt, turning it into a hostile Sharia-state, against the will of the majority—and all with the Obama administration’s help.

This would improve the opinion I have on Egyptian citizens… It is difficult to decide who is the worst between Morsi and Obama. Hillary should remain as a joke we could send her to an harem hospice maybe they will accept the old witch if arriving in the darkness of the night.

    • Carlos

Hussein Obozo is FAR WORSE then Morsi could EVER possibly be. He is a traitor to America and needs to be voted out of power.

  • Wild_Boar

I can't really believe that Hillary Clinton could've presssured the Egyptian military into accepting Mosi who, after all, seems to have gutted them so as to place him in firm control.

  • Mary Sue

Sounds like Obama sent in ACORN.

  • Coptic John

I'm a Coptic, and I'm living in Egypt … every word you've mentioned Mr. Rymond is true … MB did everything to rig that election including tampering with 3 million ballots in the national printers in favor of Morsi, and hindering Copts especially in Upper Egypt to cast their votes, buying votes … and finally we know as a fact that Obama's administration has coerced the military to give power to Morsi … it's clearly now that MB was rushing the election process in order to seize power before the end of Obama's term because they can't guarantee his re-election …
Hope you kick Obama out along with Clinton, Dalia Mujahed, Huma Abdein and you should strip them from citizenships and send them here in Egypt just to suffer from the same pain and agony they've doomed the Copts to live in under Muslim terroristhood

I have a dear friend who's a Coptic as well, with family in Egypt. The persecution of the Copts, and the western world's ignoring of their plight, is one of two issue I take a hard stand with. the other is the equally old issue of islamic b.s. in Sudan. I have a hatred of islam firstly founded by it's inherently evil "scriptures", but also confirmed by the actions of its adherents the world over. Anyone who cannot see the evil within islam – that takes us back to a barbaric 7th century mindset, is truly ignorant and/or brainwashed. May the one, true G-d (if there is one….) give you strength and courage in your adversity.

It's just the same thing as they've done in Sudan with the muslim persecutions there. And Nigeria, and every other place. Sudan has sanction starving Christians going on now, but it's hushed up.

sharia is a terrible evil and the progressive liberal press doesn't even see it coming.

      • Coptic John

"The persecution of the Copts, and the western world's ignoring of their plight" true … and we don't count on it …
They don't have time to people like us in Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Egypt but they do have time to wage a war against Serbia to save muslims!!!
Or maybe they want 2 million christian dead bodies before they act like what happened in Sudan …

      • Coptic John

Thank you for your sentiments JoJoJams … we've survived Islam for 1400 year now, not because of our strength but because of our God's preservation.

God bless you & yours John. I pray for your safety & truly feel that we're very near the time of the Messiah's return in which we won't anymore have to deal with these usurpers taking power! Islam is the beast of scripture & it sure seems they've just about taken over the whole world. Lots on that if you're interested at; http://www.BeholdTheBeast.com. (If Obama gets a second term you'd be hard pressed convincing me he's not "The King of Babylon" as outlined in scripture as he's already seemed to fufilll many of the prophecies).

Pr. O claim to be a faithful Christian is not consistent with his total lack of public support for the Coptic of Egypt and non-Muslims of the world!

Thank you Raymond for the expose. The world does itself a lot of harm by closing its eyes to the evil being visited on the Coptic Christians. The political left, as always, is in support of these islamic atrocities which they deny exit without leaving the comfort of their cozy homes to verify. Scholarship requires that for one to speak authoritatively he must have first hand knowledge of the issue. Yet those who fault reports based on facts have never gone to investigate these reports. Muslims would not be committing all the havoc reported if the politically correct had the moral fiber to condemn what is bad. Communism was defeated because America and others chose not to be politically correct. Sad to say that such leadership went to the grave with Ronald Reagan and John Paul 11. There is nobody to speak out against modern day Hitler either by not recognizing the threat he poses or for fear of being branded a 'racist'.

Copt's are descendants of the original Egyptians. Return Muslims to Arabia!

  • Ghostwriter

Oh boy! If true, than it's one more scandal for the Obama administration to deal with. And I doubt,it'll survive this one.

    • Carlos

All that Hussein Obozo needs to survive is for the Americans to vote him back again. If they do, it will be Obozo ruling the roost w/o the hamper of fighting elections ever again. Can you imagine what he will do then ??? Too scary to contemplate.

  • Armando

The name Copt is a Europeanized form of the Arabic word Kibt ( probably pronouced as a guttural K), which itself is a corruption of the word Aigyptos, Egyptian. I would not go so far as to say the Copts are descendants of the ancient Egyptians, since the Greeks under the Ptolemies ruled for at least three hundred years during which time a lot of admixture of many nations took place there. Still, the Copts certainly antedate the Arabs by more than eight hundred years. Like every place the islamofascists conquered they purposely destroyed and uprooted any vestige of the former civilizaions they subjugated. In Alexandria, for example, they put to the torch the famed library of Alexandria, destroying forever priceless information about the ancient world.

I agree with you..the Muslim brotherhood used bloodshed threats to get Shafiq’s voters scared..and the main office of Shafiq’s campaign in Cairo got burnt
