As an ardent Revisionist Zionist, I have yet to encounter anyone who believes Israel is perfect. Even David Ben-Gurion, the 1st Prime Minister, said: “We will know we have become a normal country when Jewish thieves and Jewish prostitutes conduct their business in Hebrew.” No, things aren’t perfect in Israel yet – but it’s a pretty tough neighborhood, and Israel is constantly striving to improve.

Lenin called those who work against their own people’s best interests in support of their enemies “useful idiots” – and I’d call people like Beinart and members of the New Israel Fund worse than that.

As Ze’ev Jabotinsky said: “What interest can the Jewish nation have in individuals whose supreme pride consists in the fact that they have renounced their own people? The bitter root of our shame and our suffering is that we do not give our own people the full love of a patriot. It would be better if we did not love our people at all, if we were unconcerned as to whether it existed or had disappeared, rather than that we should love it halfway which means to despise it.”

My mom used to tell me as a kid, “If you don’t have anything nice to say to your sister than don’t say anything at all.” Maybe these so-called supporters of Israel can follow this rule. This crowd of people would be better off not loving Israel anymore – they harm morale, public relations and so much more for Israel and the Jewish people. Go love another country.

  • Nakba1948

"Time for the so-called supporters of the Jewish State to love another country…" How about the so-called supporters of America actually put America first for one and stop selling out its future to the Zionist Apartheid Entity? Doctor heal thyself.

    • Foolster41

Aparthied is a lie. there is no apartheid (or if there is, Isreal is terrible at it!) There are Arab Muslims with equal rights in Isreal, and in fact more rights than in Muslim nations!

the Aparthied is in the Arab states, which you hypocritically ignore. The security measures such as the wall and checkpoints are only because of the terrorism, genocidal wars of aggression (48,67, etc.) against the Jewish state. HAMAS still preaches genocidal hatred to children against Jews, but what do you spend your time criticizing? The one democracy in the middle east!

    • EthanP

It must be terrible to be so full of hate.

      • Looking4Sanity

What really galls him is the fact that he joined the losing team. The hate is a natural result of putting your faith in a POS "prophet" who is proven wrong on an almost daily basis.

  • ezramordecai

baseless hate what is it good for? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

Let this be a lesson to all. Everyone who professes to be your friend also has the ability to lie. You will know a tree by the fruit it bears.

I believe that Nakba1948 is full of baloney. Why else would he say such utter nonsense?

"100 percent of the Jewish people — wants peace, and no one claims the country is perfect"

-heheh. Is this writer for real? It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

  • Raymond in DC

"Is their love for Israel an abstract concept or do these “Zionists” believe that their own beliefs are more important than the vast majority of Israelis?"

I heard Beinart speak at a DC synagogue about two years ago. Though he claims to belong to a traditional synagogue, and he says his son has an Israeli flag in his bedroom, he made clear his sympathies lie with only a certain kind of Zionism – one like that espoused by Buber and Magnes. (He's elsewhere expressed admiration for Stephen Wise.)

But that kind of bi-national "let's all get along" Zionism won over few beyond a limited circle in the 1940s. It won no support from Palestine's Arab community either. And after more than 60 years of real world experience, such a version of Zionism is deemed as fantasy by most. One might suspect that one reason Beinart so criticizes Israel is because they don't accept his model. The same might be true for Tom Friedman who apparently can't forgive Israel for not taking up "his" peace plan (which some call the Saudi Peace Plan).

  • The fact is,

Thomas Friedman wants to see the Jewish state and the Jewish people totally obliterated.

Any expression of care or love for Israel ever coming out of his filthy mouth would be a lie.
