Democrats to America: We Own the Government!

Government Shutdown Enters Fourth Day With No ResolutionIn the current fight over the government shutdown, Republicans are simply representing the views of the American people.

Americans didn’t ask for Obamacare, they don’t want it, but now their insurance premiums are going through the roof, their doctors aren’t accepting it, and their employers are moving them into part-time work — or firing them — to avoid the law’s mandates.

Contrary to Obama’s promises, it turns out: You can’t keep your doctor, you can’t keep your insurance — you can’t even keep your job. In other words, it’s a typical government program, but this one wrecks your health care.

Also, the president did raise taxes on the middle class in defiance of his well-worn campaign promise not to. Indeed, Obamacare is the largest tax hike in U.S. history.

Among the other changes effected by this law are:

– Obamacare will allow insurers to charge 50 percent higher premiums for smokers, but prohibits insurers from increasing premiums for those with HIV/AIDS.

– Nationally, Obamacare will increase men’s individual insurance premiums by an average of 99 percent and women’s by 62 percent. In North Carolina, for example, individual insurance premiums will triple for women and quadruple for men.

– Health plans valued at $27,500 or more for a family of four will be taxed at a rate of 40 percent.

– No doctors who went to an American medical school will be accepting Obamacare.

– A 62-year-old man earning $46,000 a year is entitled to a $7,836 government tax credit to buy health insurance. But if he earns an extra $22 in income, he loses the entire $7,836 credit. He will have more take-home pay by earning $46,000 than if he earns $55,000. (If he’s lucky, he already works for one of the companies forced by Obamacare to reduce employees’ hours!)

– Merely to be eligible for millions of dollars in grants from the federal government under Obamacare, education and training programs are required to meet racial, ethnic, gender, linguistic and sexual orientation quotas. That’s going to make health care MUCH better!

– Obamacare is turning America into a part-time nation. According to a recent report by economist John Lott, 97 percent of all jobs added to the economy so far this year have been part-time jobs. Ninety-seven percent!

– Obamacare is such a disaster that the people who wrote it refuse to live under it themselves. That’s right, Congress won a waiver from Obamacare.

Responding to the people’s will, House Republicans first voted to fund all of government — except Obamacare. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Then the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but merely delay the implementation of Obamacare for one year. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Finally, the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but added a requirement that everyone live under Obamacare. No more special waivers for Congress and their staff, and no waivers for big business without the same waivers for individuals.

Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it. So as you can see, Republicans are the big holdup here.

A longtime Democratic operative, Karen Finney, explained the Democrats’ intransigence on MSNBC to a delighted Joan Walsh (aka the most easily fooled person on TV) by comparing House Republicans to a teenager trying to borrow his mother’s car. “No, I’m not negotiating!” Mother says. “It’s MY CAR!”

This wasn’t a stupid slip of the tongue that other Democrats quickly rejected. Finney had used the exact same metaphor to a panel of highly agreeable MSNBC guests the day before. (MSNBC books no other kind of guest.)

The left thinks the government is their car and the people’s representatives are obstreperous teenagers trying to borrow the government. Which belongs to Democrats.

That’s not how the Constitution views the House of Representatives. To the contrary, the House is considered most reflective of the people’s will because its members are elected every two years.

As a matter of fact, the Republicans who mistakenly assume they have something to do with running the government represent most of the people who pay taxes to run it. So it’s more like a teenager who is making the car payments, maintaining the car insurance and taking responsibility for registering the car being told: “It’s not your car.”

But the Democrats refuse to even negotiate. It’s their government – and if you Republicans think you’re going out dressed like that, you’ve got another thing coming! Needless to say, they absolutely will not consider the Republicans’ demand that Democrats merely live under Obamacare themselves.

Instead, Democrats say “the Koch brothers” are behind the effort to defund Obamacare.

They say Republicans are trying to “burn the whole house down” (Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz); “have lost their minds” (Sen. Harry Reid); are trying to negotiate “with a bomb strapped to their chest” (senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer); are “legislative arsonists” (Rep. Nancy Pelosi); and are engaging in “blatant extortion” (White House press secretary Jay Carney).

The MSNBC crowd calls Republicans “arsonists” every 15 minutes. They ought to check with fellow MSNBC host Al Sharpton. He knows his arsonists! In 1995, Sharpton whipped up a mob outside the Jewish-owned Freddy’s Fashion Mart with an anti-Semitic speech. Sometime later, a member of the mob torched the store, killing seven Hispanic employees.

Every single Democrat in the country uses the exact same talking point: We “refuse to negotiate with a gun being held to our head.”

Which means the Democrats will not negotiate at all — not now, not ever. House Republicans have already passed three-dozen bills defunding, or otherwise modifying, Obamacare. Senate Democrats and liberal commentators had a good laugh at Republicans for passing them.

Now they’re paying attention!

If you are in the minority of Americans not already unalterably opposed to Obamacare, keep in mind that the only reason the government is shut down right now is that Democrats refuse to fund the government if they are required to live under Obamacare.

That’s how good it is!

Thank you A. Coulter for your revealing and enlightening article! Every American should read this and ponder the question, ” Why did I vote Democrat if this is what they do to the USA?

    • gerry

The answer is quite simple:stupidity. This is proven everyday.
Where else in the world would someone vote for a canditate that he knows nothing about.Records sealed.
What the Democrats own is a bankrupt country.Just an empty shell.

      • herb benty

People are waking up though….we hope!

        • Danny

People are waking up?! A good part of the population of Russia think things were better under the Soviet Union, and we haven’t even remotely sunk as low as that. Believe me, it will take much more than this for people to wake up.

          • herb benty

Dan, just wondering about what you said, worrying that your words are bang-on. If so, what is the answer?

  • The March Hare

Another great article, Ann. I always look forward to reading your pointed comments. You always hit the mark.
However, I must point out that the old phrase is not: if you think such and such, then you have another THING coming. It is: if you think such and such, then you have another THINK coming.

  • davarino

Please Sir, may I be exempt like the rest of the Proletariat?
Shut up and get back to work so you can give your income to those more worthy of it.

    • justquitnow

If you have decent insurance already then you are “exempt”. You just have to have coverage. If I go to an exchange, it doesn’t cost you any money. The expansion of Medicare is more aimed at the poor people…you know the moochers and takers…and if you live in a Republican state, you won’t be seeing that money anyway.

      • herb benty

BS,BS, and BS. People all over America are being let know that their previous insurance has doubled in price or canceled outright.Nothing is free sonny, People will receive, “subsidies”…that is taxpayer money the Feds have no business “giving” out. “Expansion of Medicare”…Medicare is already broke. Are you paid for this drivel?

  • Bruce

As long as you use the term Obamacare you keep his name in front of people and the question becomes about him. People will defend an individual, how many times do we see the majority rooting for an underdog?

Make the story about the ACA and how poorly it was written, how onerous the new rules are etc. Do not let them get traction by having his name in their ears a thousand times a day.

    • CowboyUp

Good point. I think I’ll give it a more accurate, but still recognizable handle though, and call it the Unaffordable Care Act.

    • Moa

The point of using “Obamacare” is to remind everyone who is responsible for the train wreck. Democrats are very good at causing messes and then blaming conservatives as being responsible. Calling ACA “Obamacare” prevents the Democrats from doing that trick.

That’s why Ted Cruz conducted his filibuster, not because he could convince the Senate to repeal Obamacare, but because he wanted every US citizen to know that the Republicans are fighting against Obamacare and the Democrats are fighting for it. When Obamacare is fully implemented it will be a train wreck – as it was destined to be. The Democrats will be unable to blame the Republicans. They’ll try but the people will actually know, for once. It is a master stroke by Ted Cruz to prepare for the 2014 elections, where the Democrats should be defeated in an electoral bloodbath. A *very* smart move by Senator Cruz.

      • justquitnow

It wasn’t a filibuster…it was political theater for you.

  • Lanna

May we bow down and worship you…..this is not a Monarchy Reid…these people are delirious with power!

    • A Z

Hopefully in the next 3 years Senator Reid will be going to jail. His largest contributor went to jail.

      • Lanna

Yes, I heard about that….How many more contributors will say, Enough is Enough? Most people are recognizing the Left’s destructive ideologies.

  • A Z

The Republican House of Representatives passed a law that everyone live under Obama care and sent it to the Democrat Senate. Harry Reid, Obama and the jet setting Dems refuse to live under the laws they pass.

“One rule for thee & another rule for me.” – Democrat belief system

    • herb benty

That AZ, is communism in a nutshell.

      • justquitnow

He wants single-payer healthcare where we are all on the same plan.

        • herb benty

Yes, a system that Canada with all it’s natural resources is having trouble paying, and Canadians increasingly are trying to bring in more private input like the USA HAD. Single- Payer will bankrupt America, without a doubt. Of course that is the Progressive fallback policy because then they can really go Totalitarian.

          • justquitnow

That was sarcasm. AZ doesn’t want single payer healthcare, he is just following down a little cultic tidbit about inequality.

Hey you know what will be effective…tell them that the whole shutdown is because Obama won’t go on Obamacare. Sure it’s a crazy lie that doesn’t even make sense, but it’s the sort of meme that our real believers can latch onto.

USA had? The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act is not an insurer. It doesn’t issue insurance, offer care, control hospitals or doctors or anything of the sort. It is nothing like socialized medicine like almost all of our allies have.

Canada is “having trouble paying” for healthcare? What does that even mean? You spend less on healthcare to GDP than the US…a lot less.

          • herb benty

Who are you with your sarcastic lies? Republicans have offered 3 proposals to Obama to avert a shutdown, Obama has refused to negotiate on anything. Imagine a law so bad that all kinds of waivers are handed out, and even a corrupt Congress refuses to apply it to themselves. That is, sadly, the truth- no lie. No the USA government doesn’t control Hospitals, you are right, but it will control people and pay for those people to obtain Healthcare x 300,000,000 people + all the millions of additional government employees…and you are broke. Take the Province of British Columbia, Canada. They get transfers from the Federal gov’t for Healthcare, the Premier has recently stated that soon 1/2 of all revenue taken in by the gov’t will go to Healthcare and in 20 years ALL revenue will go to Healthcare. No money for DEFENCE!! The Canadians have been comming to America to have procedures done that were taking way too long a wait up there.Similar stories in our allies countries.

          • justquitnow

            We’re all doomed…doomed!

The ACA was created to control costs. We only as a country collectively discussed the issues of debt and healthcare for @#^#$*@( years. Once it was past, the people against it pretend that none of this happened. “Obama just shoved it down our throats for NNOOOO reason”

But how many of you are going to keep making the mistake of pretending that Obamacare is a plan or something you join or don’t join.,IT”S NOT!

          • herb benty

Single- PAYER, with millions of additional government workers to ADMINISTER the Trojan Horse. All communist despots grab the people’s guns and implement “Healthcare”, as their first moves….ever thought why? Canada’s Healthcare is close to a Trillion dollars a year. America has urban areas with equivilent populations to Canada’s whole country. America will be borrowing Trillions to PAY for Obamacare. The Keynesian-obsessed Dems still think you can borrow yourself to prosparity!

          • justquitnow

Umm….OK calm down. You’re a nut…that’s problem number 1. THe ACA is not single-payer healthcare by any stretch of the imagination. It’s people buying private insurance. What don’t you understand about that? Can’t you go get some free medication from your communist healthcare system?

          • herb benty

Kucinich, etc., etc want a single-payer system. “people buying private insurance”…..then why o’ why dear boy is the government involved at all? Obama and the “progressives” are communists, here in Canada, we are trying to undo what some years of leftism strapped on to our country. The lefties had taken over our Conservative Party, they were called “Red” Tories. We have since gotten rid of them. The same thing in America. Your Democratic Party has been taken over by Communism. Will America rid itself of these “progressives”( commies)? The Democrats have taken over 1/6 th of the economy, I suggest Fox News , where you will hear the truth.

          • justquitnow

So you really don’t understand I guess. Yes Kucinich wanted single-payer….so did Howard Dean I think..and there were some other voices calling for that. They didn’t win out. That was never purposed. Single Payer would have involved some nationalization…even if all entities concerned were compensated. It would have meant a national health service. You could have tried to do it within the private structure, but it wouldn’t have worked. It’s kind of an all or nothing proposition. Do you understand. It’s either single-payer socialized medicine or it’s not.

If it helps think of the ACA as a framework of regulations, rules, and incentives to alter the course of our healthcare costs. You don’t know anything about it man…you’ve just read a bunch of editorials telling you it’s communist.

          • herb benty

Look fella, last try. What happens when a person needs serious surgery and the bill runs into the 10′s of thousands. what if this person earns on the lower end and his insurance payment is $100.00 a month. Before Obamacare, the insurance Co. paid. Now, the taxpayer will pay. Subsidies! Everyone will receive subsidies to “help” pay for their insurance, and the Government thought so much of Obamacare that they exempted themselves! Or a 100% subsidy. Anyway, it will be trillions that America can’t afford, that’s my point. And gov’t programs GROW.The ACA will bankrupt the USA. Where have you been? Obama’s Marxism is very well known and the Democratic Party has been taken over by Communists that use the word “Progressive”, that is easier for Americans to swallow. This is all verified and now common knowledge. Healthcare is NOT a Constitutional Right, neither is happiness, both are up to the individual. Gov’t has NO business being in business, using the citizens as forced customers. Wake up!

  • RAS

Thanks Ann. I am old enough to remember the imperial governments of post
WWII; the teeming, cheering, torch light crowds that fell for the BS of another
progressive that promised radical change, free care and prosperity. The
promised change and attendant one-government domination lead to millions dead, the total loss of freedom and the destruction of a once great society. Why do we keep falling for this stuff?

  • A Z

The polls for the 1995 shutdown showed Republicans blamed over the Democrats by 2:1. Yet the Republicans subsequently gained 2 seats in the senate.

Now the Republicans are still blamed more than Democrats but by a margin less than 2:1.

    Two Points:
    1. We know many pollsters lie in how they frame poll questions to skew the responses.
    2. The Democrats are going to get creamed in 2014. The economy will be low (Potemkin) growth or no growth. The world will be afire and little John Kerry will be skittering hither and thither. The American people will know who to blame.

    • joshuasweet

Polls made by the media to get to the answers desired to make the democrats look good? those polls?

      • A Z

        Exactly.

You can change the response you get by changing the wording of a question.

People who follow politics know this. Even the average person the street has heard of this but is not always on their guard so they only read the punch line of a poll. Pollsters and journalists count on this fact.

    • justquitnow

What have the Republicans done to help things along? Nothing. They are just trying to keep everything draggy and difficult until they can get Obama out of office. That’s why every standard thing is a huge drama…the budget, the debt ceiling, the farm bill, any federal judge appointments or department heads or anything that Congress is involved in, the Republicans have tried to make difficult.

The only people that don’t know this are people that listen to cult media day in and day out. One thing is sure in 2014, some of the know-nothings will get reelected because they redrew their own districts according to how they knew people voted in the last election. Is that OK with you? You think that’s good for democracy…that the representatives from small districts in Kansas or Alabama or another taker state can shut down the government and cause us to default?

      • A Z

        “Is that OK with you?”

justquitnow is asking a question. Who want to answer justquitnow with their in your face holier than thou post name?

There is a big difference between purposefully trying to do nothing and trying to do the right thing and getting no traction. It reminds me of the concept of “work” in physics. just because Obmam is getting “work” done does not mean that it is a positive development or that his sh/t doesn’t stink. The Nazis got a lot of “work” done. They took Margaret Sanger of Planned Parenthood at her word.

        • justquitnow

Really…you went straight to Nazis? What is wrong with you idiots. Is Gerrymandering OK with you? I’m not changing my screenname so you can answer a simple @^#*$() question.

I would make a solid bet that you really have no idea what has gone on in the legislature and giving the Republicans credit for trying to do the right thing against the black antichrist is just standard for you.

Oh OK…well as long as someone in the other party has ever done it…it’s fine. I know you’re a real edumikated one, but a cultist just the same. Yeah I understood your points…you support Republican obstructionism and you think you’re really smart.

The Republicans did not “give him a good bill” with the only provision being that big businesses wouldn’t get the delay. And do you honestly think the Republicans want to get off their cushy healthcare plan? You’re out of your mind. They sent an outrageous list of demands…that’s what they did. Have you seen said list? Probably not. You can go look it up the way you scrambled to look up Godwin’s law.

“Boehner offered to fund the government so long Obama and Congress went on Obama Care.”

Just because you call the law “Obamacare” doesn’t mean it’s some monolithic health plan. It’s not. It’s not something you join. “Obamacare” is just shorthand for the Patient Protection and Affordable Healthcare Act.

You’re lost in you’re own terminology. In the context of the what the law does and requires of us, how could Obama “go on” Obamacare? Sigh. This is just a cult bobble that some writer or TV personality put out there for you to glob onto. It doesn’t mean anything…you see smart guy?

So you don’t know what you’re talking about and you’re proud of it. Don’t worry cupcake…you can quit typing anytime.

          • A Z

Obama called it Obama Care around August until the polls went south on him again.

It is not a monolithic plan!

We know that. I t is one plan for me and another plan for thee.

We are ahead of you on that one. Please try to keep up.

You’re an idiot. But then again what good is it to introduce a bunch of intellectually dishonest bs into the public mind if you can pick it up and dishonestly run with it? Now you want everyone to have the same plan? Let that idiot flag fly man…

Fixed it for you. It’s funny, when I saw the title, I thought you were going to talk about how the government is treating American natural treasures, e.g. Old Faithful, like a attractions in amusement park that they own and control and can vindictively deny Americans access to unless we first bow down and slavishly accept the government dictates and pay more and more into the wasteful and unnecessary government programs. It seems we’re at a crossroads. Shall we arise to the occasion and work together to realize the American dream so that America may once again become the Last Best Hope of Earth, as Abraham Lincoln said? Or shall we submit and slink away in fear as ruthless liars and hypocrites destroy what was once the greatest nation in the history of the world? The choice is ours. The moment of truth is at hand. they own it for sure and they deserve the blame for the shut down and the increased debit after all they are the Owners or so they say.

    • Texas Patriot

Perhaps we should invoke law of criminal forfeiture and require all corrupt government officials to forfeit all their ill-gotten gains in order to help reduce the government debt.

      • joshuasweet

or dock their pay for not doing their jobs, and penlites accessed for violating their job descriptions that they were elected to?

      • justquitnow

Really, you don’t think there are a few bank CEOs, traders, investment groups, insurers, or anyone in the financial markets you should talk to first?

  • Distantsmoke

    The article states:

***Among the other changes effected by this law are:

“No doctors who went to an American medical school will be accepting Obamacare.”***

How is this even possible? Or is it a misprint? Or wishful thinking?
And no I don’t support Obamacare, this sentence just doesn’t make sense to me.

  • Randy Townsend

Just my guess, but I’d wager that a majority of those vote “D” do not pay income taxes and receive unearned government benefits of some kind. The MSM refuses to remind people of the waivers/exemptions Obama has handed out (illegally, BTW) to the “law of the land”. We are told “It’s the law”, just not reminded that it isn’t the law for everybody…

  • antioli

If the Dems own the Gov then they are responsible for the mess.

    Time to change owners.

  • Whattheheck

Where are you getting your information from – no doctor who went to an America medical school will accept… What a crock of stuff. Your insurance will be blue cross blue shield and any other insurance carriers that are off there! What they will not treat people period!
You can gain knowledge by reading but you must be able to separate the wheat from the shaft by thinking.

    • ziggy zoggy

      Huh huh! You wrote “shaft.”

Nobody seems to discuss the effect upon newborns under the health care law.
Newborns are required to obtain coverage under the law.(Taxed)
On what basis is this “Tax” levied upon?
    Is it Taxed as” Income”
    Taxed as” Property”
    Capitol Gains?
    Improvements?

It is a Given fact that Children are a Financial burden
So is this a Burden tax? Some perverse form of poll tax upon someone who produces nothing, Has no say or vote about the burden they have no knowledge of. Where the level of their taxation has nothing whatsoever to do with their own being.

A Birth tax maybe? One to be avoided. Fifty Million Dollars to planned Parenthood for -what was it? Health care coaches or the like? Sure could “coach” quite a few upon the wisdom of adding to ones TAX burden.

A Tax based upon your Gross income(before deductions).

Then you can deduct your STANDARD CHILD DEDUCTION when filing your real “Income Taxes”. Kind of like getting Taxed twice on the same money.

Property tax is more like it. You know. Where Private Property is taxed to death and Public property is never Taxed.

    • justquitnow

You’re putting “tax” in quotes and then trying to reconcile it as if it were a tax? There is only a penalty if you have no coverage. Letting kids stay on their parents plan longer (I believe its in the mid 20s) was part of the ACA…so I guess if you’re about to become a parent, you should get your stuff together huh?

    • justquitnow

But you act like the law just appeared one day in the form of a tax bill and you’re looking around like “what’s this?” You should be familiar with the “personal responsibility” mandate and why it’s necessary for this to work. Look, just have health insurance…so you aren’t a burden to the rest of us when you go to the emergency room. That way you won’t be fined in a way that resembles a tax.

How is a deduction taxing your money twice? WTF? And look genius if you can’t figure out why public property isn’t taxed then I don’t know what to tell you.

  • justquitnow

I get it…Ann doesn’t like it. She’s done nothing but lie about it since Obama first touched it. I’m not surprised anyone that is influenced by this woman doesn’t like “Obamacare” and thinks it’s satanic. But here’s the thing, Coulter saying something does not make it so. The ACA is law. Obama was reelected with the ACA being a centerpiece (with Romney saying he would repeal it). So, the nation could have voted in Romney or a Republican controlled Senate, but they didn’t. This tiny minority of know-nothings that come from safe gerrymandered districts is telling the majority that they don’t get to run government unless it acts like Romney is President and they get what they want.

So Ann can write whatever editorials she wants to try to provide cover for these idiots, but they are just doing what they always do…trying to destroy public power. When you don’t care about government and don’t understand governance, then what’s it to you if you shut down the government?

The Democrats are not without a plan. It is my belief the Democrats are not resisting the Republican Bills simply because they dislike the 1 year waiting period to begin Onamacare. I think they want a government shutdown and they want a default. Why they may want that bizarre condition lends itself to logical conclusions.
The Democrats are not stupid. They know Obamcare is not ready to be implemented and it can easily take a year for it to be ready. The Republicans are handing them a political gift by not insisting Obamacare immediately be made available as required by law. If Obama and the Democrats can force a default, that will give them a year or more of recovery time. The Democrats will get all of their hearts desires in one fell swoop. Obamacare will have its year+ to be forced on the American people, Obama will still be in power long enough to make basic changes to our Republics monetary foundation, and the Republicans can be blamed for every nasty trick that doesn’t go down well with the American people.
A self made crisis is a tricksters dream. Trickster dreams can usually be stopped by people who are not tricksters. The Republicans are not tricksters.
    Marvin Fox

    • justquitnow

What Bills? WTF are you talking about?

The Republicans and Karl Rove himself have publicly stated that delaying Obamacare is their objective. Delay to destroy. Big businesses were having a hard time meeting the deadline. They asked for and Republicans backed the delay of one year for the businesses (over 50 employees). Then Republicans turn the corner and walk down to a mic and say that Obamacare is so bad it has to be delayed. Get it?

The Republicans aren’t tricksters? Where have you been for the last 30 years?

      • http://www.MARVINFOX.com/ Marvin E. Fox

Of course the Republicans backed a years delay for Onamacare. However the Administration that gave it to businesses, refused the same delay for ordinary citizens.
If Obamacare is so good, why not totally delay it for a year? it can’t be implemented right know because it has major problems, and the solutions are not predictable in the next year.
The Republicans have not seen one day in office when they could match the trickery of the Democrats in office. I have studied the Democratic Party history from its beginning during the Jackson Administration. It started the Civil War at the Democratic Party Convention of 1860. It redeemed the South, using the Black Codes, to virtual slavery for black people after the Civil War. It stood against Women Voting Rights until the 19th Amendment was passed in 1920.
You get the idea. Obamacare is just its latest acquisition to a long record of Democrat support for minority rule.
        Marvin Fox

        • justquitnow

I guess you didn’t understand the whole thing about the delay of 1 year for businesses with over 50 employees. You don’t see the hypocrisy there. It’s because they don’t want to delay it, they want to kill it.

Again you are talking like some of these other guys as if Obamacare was a big plan with it’s own doctors and hospitals and at some point there is this titanic shift to Obamacare. You’re just lost in the word made up to insult a law. At some point next year, you will have to have health insurance or you will be fined. So go get health insurance and if you already have it…what are you complaining about? If you live in a Republican state, then your governor has probably already refused to expand medicare for the poor and they have done what they can to prevent state exchanges to be setup.

The political parties certainly aren’t static things with set ideologies. Over the last century the parties have changed considerably…so citing civil war era “democrats”…how does they help you understand what the party is doing today. It doesn’t. You really should know that and probably do.

          • http://www.MARVINFOX.com/ Marvin E. Fox

I understood “the whole thing” the Democrats are doing with Obamacare from the beginning. Obamacare was envisioned as a single payer system by Obama and the Democrats from the beginning. It is bad system for the American people, and we don’t want it.
I mentioned the Democratic Party history because I have studied that history and I realize they haven’t changed very much in their 180+ years in our Republic. I can find no place for democracy in the Democratic Party.
I will not ignore Democratic Party history because it makes you so uncomfortable you would like for it to have been something else. The present came from the past. The Democratic Party has not changed the political course they began in that past. Their methods are the same; they changed causes as they lost battles, Democrats goals remain true to their past and their nature. It is time our Republic understood them and opposed them.
            Marvin Fox

          • justquitnow

Sigh. No. Marvin, it is anything but a single-payer system. This is the same structure that Republicans have pointed to for years as their alternative. This was their alternative to Hilliary’s healthcare plan in the 90′s and it was part of Dole’s platform when he ran for President. Mitt Romney put a similar law in place in his state. Now, what would make this a “conservative” idea…well…the mandate, the use of private insurers, the ability to buy across state lines…etc…etc.

A lot of people in this country want single-payer like all the other countries, But that is not what the Democrats even proposed and they took a lot of flack for it. But by introducing what was essentially a republican plan, the republicans had no where to go. Their plan basically became “do nothing”. Romney said we already had healthcare because if you went to the emergency room, people take care of you. Derp…that is the reason behind the mandate.

As far as political parties changing platforms and ideals, it certainly does happen. The old dixiecrats…the southern democrats were racist and segregationists and they literally broke with the part in the 40′s. The democratic party larger embraced the civil rights era and that whole side of things was flipped. So, it happens. You don’t have to spare me history. I’m not cultically devoted to anything.

          • http://www.MARVINFOX.com/ Marvin E. Fox

Your literary sigh wasn’t nearly deep enough. Why Libs insist on blaming Obamacare on the Republicans is not a mystery. It has been so disliked before it is implemented that they need someone to blame for the cataclysm it will probably cause after implementation. There is more than enough evidence for the coming cataclysm to make that probability more of a certainty.
Not one Republican voted for the Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Obama concoction for political disgrace. The scurrilous attack on Republicans for that political, social, and financial disgrace is preposterous on it first face, and only becomes more so with the Libs increased insistence on Republican culpability.
Nancy Pelosi sealed its blame on the phony democracy and its adherents Party when she stated. “We have to pass the Bill so you can see what is in it.”
The only way Democrats can relieve themselves of that piece of Political trash is to become Republicans and confess they didn’t know what was in the Bill when the voted for it.
            Marvin Fox

          • justquitnow

But you said it was socialized medicine…not that you didn’t like it. Taking about the history of the ideas in the ACA isn’t to “blame” it on Republicans. It’s to point out the hypocrisy of being OK with an idea until Obama touched it. Some of you seem to think that something has to be bi-partisan to be legal. And you can keep your labels…for the love of pete they aren’t helping you understand, quite the opposite.

          • http://www.MARVINFOX.com/ Marvin E. Fox

You seem as ignorant of proper Constitutional process of government as your are the processes of bring a Bill to the House.
The fact that a bunch of partisan Democrats took information from Republicans, forced it into their own tortured version of what healthcare should be, doesn’t allow them to blame the source for their tortured version of healthcare. However they will blame the Republicans at the earliest sign of problems, just as many Democrats are attempting to do with the Democrat invented version of their healthcare disgrace that you are using.
As far as my saying it is socialized medicine, I didn’t say that to you but I have said it, advisedly, in the past. The Democratic Party’s socialism is as phony as their phony democracy. If Democrats had used Marxist socialism, I could have some minor respect for the attempt at a sincere propagation of a bad idea. The phony socialism being practiced will bring our entire economy under a government that holds a monopoly on all businesses by regulation and taxes. there is no socialism in that scenario. The Democrats will become everything they appear to hate. An old saying I heard as a child covers that drive to control all money very well: “It isn’t those who own money who have power; it is those who control money who have power.”

The ACA is not about health care, it is about power and control.
