Alec Baldwin to MSNBC, Hillary Clinton to NBC

jtjtThis week, Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus declared that the Republican primary candidates would not be debating on CNN or NBC so long as those networks insisted on running hagiographies of potential 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. CNN is creating a documentary; NBC is creating a miniseries with the drop-dead beautiful Diane Lane playing the not-so-much Hillary.

Priebus stated to CNN, “I find CNN’s actions disturbing and disappointing. Your credibility as a supposedly unbiased news network will most certainly be jeopardized by the decision to show political favoritism and produce an extended commercial for Secretary Clinton’s nascent campaign.” He wrote to NBC, “NBC cannot purport to be a neutral party in American politics, and the credibility of NBC News, already damaged by the partisanship of MSNBC, will be further undermined by the actions of NBC Universal executives who have taken it upon themselves to produce an extended commercial for Secretary Clinton’s nascent campaign.”

NBC immediately fired back by stating that NBC News was different than NBC Entertainment, and never the twain shall meet. NBC News immediately responded to Priebus, writing that it is “completely independent of NBC Entertainment and has no involvement in this project.”

Mika Brzezinski of the unwatchable Morning Joe on MSNBC asked Priebus if he understood the distinction. “I have to set a debate calendar that has the best interests of our party and our nominees in mind. And if I’ve got NBC doing a miniseries with Diane Lane…it makes my choice of moderators much easier,” Priebus answered. “People see NBC and … NBC is in the business of news. They’re in the business of entertainment. There are times when decisions that are made by NBC, whether it’s entertainment or whether it’s the news, that are going to have an effect over the entire brand.”

So, is there a firewall between NBC News and NBC Entertainment?

The answer didn’t take long in coming. On Thursday, sources told Mediaite that actor Alec Baldwin – yes, the star of NBC’s 30 Rock, famed voicemailer (“rude, thoughtless little pig”), and “Words With Friends” aficionado – will be joining MSNBC on Friday evenings to talk politics. His new show, which has yet to be named, will air at 10 pm ET. Baldwin’s politics are famously leftist and virulently violent; in 1998, he suggested that he would like to “stone Henry Hyde to death,” and said that if Americans didn’t live in America, “we would go to [Republicans’] homes and kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families, for what they’re doing to this country.”

As John Nolte of Breitbart News rightly pointed out, “There has never been a firewall between the news and entertainment divisions at any news network, much less NBC. Look at how frequently NBC’s various news outlets (broadcast, online, cable) aired Tina Fey’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearances as Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential election. The news division’s motive was glaringly obvious – they loved being able to endlessly broadcast those clips to in an effort destroy this woman as a viable candidate.” There’s a reason that Brian Williams appeared on 30 Rock almost as often as Fey herself.

The truth is that there is no real gap between the entertainment and news divisions of television networks. That’s been true for decades. Paddy Chayefsky pointed it out as early as Network, when network executive Diana Christensen (Faye Dunaway) takes over the newsroom: “when          I took over this department, it had the worst programming record in television history. This network hasn’t one show in the top twenty.  This network is an industry joke.  We better start putting together one winner for next September.  I want a show developed, based on the activities of a terrorist group. Joseph Stalin and his merry band     of Bolsheviks. I want ideas from you people. And, by the way, the next time I send an audience research report around, you all better read it, or I’ll sack the f—ing lot of you, is that clear?”

Ratings and liberalism rule the roost. That’s why the RNC is right. That’s why Alec Baldwin will soon be a news host. And that’s why the Republican Party had better pull its collective head out of its posterior about the value of entertainment in shaping Americans’ views.

CNN and NBC are playing favorites.A Chimp with 1/2 a Brain would agree to that. This is shameful. But this is the work of a Corporation that is not suppose to take sides. Instead they feed the masses with Propaganda. This is PROPAGANDA. The owners of these corporations should stop this kind of thing immediately. By the way who are the owners?

I’m glad the GOP may have learned to play hardball for a change. What I remember distinctly from the 2008 primary campaign was wall-to-wall documentaries on CNN, in particular about blacks in American and the horrific history they endured 100+ years ago. This went on for months during the primaries and continued on during the Presidential campaign. Stoking the racial fires and guilt sure benefited Obama then, but we never saw those documentaries again.

The Left’s “leaders” are pop stars. That should tell any intelligent person something. And they are “leaders” because their followers are an alliance of low information stooges and “not so bright” heirs of the spoils of their forefather’s efforts. The second group doesn’t have a clue about what is required to make it in a competitive world without their heritage head start, both domestically and internationally. Their feeling of guilt is proof that they do understand at least that. Gee, I guess the two groups aren’t really that much different in the first place.

The Republicans in 2008 allowed the media to conduct the debates and to set the rules. That was really dumb. Even now they only complain about NBC wanting to cheat again which shows that the Republicans are unable to learn from experience. A proper debate would have allotted equal time for the candidates to address the issues without the clever tricks by the moderators.

  • poest

In the last election the Republican Party and its candidate marched like Christians into the Coliseum of the MSM to encounter a preplanned bush-wacking set in place by Democratic operatives colluding with the Networks’ moderators and other bad actors, for the sole purpose of defeating the “enemy” of Barack’s “Democratic” party by hook or by crook. Hopefully the RNC has learned that Democrats are playing hard ball.

    • WW4

I thought most of the GOP candidates did very well making fools of themselves all on their very own during the Neverending Primary season.

      • poest

You are 100% right! They were fools to believe the debates were going to be untainted by MSM/Democrat collusion in the pre planning of the questions as well as the deference that was to be paid the sitting president.
But the real fools are those who voted for the golfer that is now occupying and besmirching the office of the president of The United States of America, and who have been hoisted by their own petard. It is a shame that the vote only demonstrated how successful buying votes is. Honesty has been eclipsed by the fear of funding cuts vs individualism, independence, resilience! We now have government by the government, for the government, and by the government!

        • WW4

Come on, there was no MSM “trap” in the debates. Excuses about “the media” need to stop. Fox is by far the most popular news network, and conservative talk radio by far the most popular political radio. So there’s no media shutout, and these are not precious little babies running for office; they are public figures who have to defend their beliefs when challenged. Any decent candidate should be able to surmount any question put to him/her. A good campaign trains for the hardballs and curveballs.

The primary season for the GOP went wayyy too long and had too cluttered a field. You get everyone trying to out-conservative each other, everyone calling out the other for not being conservative enough–only to have to swing back to center for the general election, or as Romney’s advisor put it, “shake the etch-a-sketch.” You have the absurdity of Romney decrying a health care plan he pioneered.

          • poest

Hillary enjoyed the same fate. But perhaps the link below nails down the MSM complicity in the war they have engaged in against the conservative viewpoint. The IRS scandal is a scary “1984” scenario showing the lengths to which all modes of government and MSM go to perpetuate and protect the pretender.

Given testimony by a former CNN reporter documenting CNN’s acceptance of money payment for slanting news, who considers CNN to be a credible, unbiased news network? Priebus is either out of touch or not following relevant news. Perhaps, he’s just trying to be politically correct.
