Hollywood Condemns the Zimmerman Verdict

Ben Shapiro is a Senior Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center and Editor-in-Chief of TruthRevolt.org. He is the author of the new book "The People vs. Barack Obama: The Criminal Case Against the Obama Administration" (Threshold Editions).

mileyThe non-black folks who occupy Hollywood’s higher echelon carry with their fancy cars and palatial estates an unearned sense of racial guilt. Most of those in Hollywood are socialists at heart, and thus can’t reconcile their success with the disproportionate poverty they see around them. They have an especially hard time dealing with the fact that Hollywood is disproportionately non-black. At the same time, these Hollywood stars aren’t willing to give up their (as they perceive it) unearned wealth. Instead, they offer up sorrow for an evil world. They tweet for our sins.

This unearned guilt allows those in Hollywood to feel superior to others, which is, of course, the goal of most of those on the left. Hollywood liberals can avoid participating in productive pursuits to help others by voting Democratic, donating money to Barack Obama, and jabbering about the white heteronormative superstructure that signs their checks.

No wonder, then, that Hollywood went berserk, from top to bottom, over the jury’s acquittal of George Zimmerman for second-degree murder and manslaughter in the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Leading the way were black Hollywoodites, an industry minority,  who preferred to constantly focus on phantom white racism rather than the far more pressing ills of the black community. Ice Cube tweeted, “The Trayvon Martin verdict doesn’t surprise me. Stanford [sic], FL never wanted Zimmerman arrested. Now he’s free to kill another child.” Never mind that Trayvon Martin was a muscular 17-year-old who towered over the clinically obese Zimmerman. Never mind that the evidence tended to show that Martin was on top of Zimmerman pounding his head on sidewalk. The facts don’t matter. Race does.

Busta Rhymes joined the party with this tweet: “#ZIMMERMAN #NOTGUILTY!! GOD GOT A GREATER PUNISHMENT 4 THIS F— BOY THAN THE COURT SYSTEM!! #Staytuned… WE WILL LIVE 2 SEE HIM PAY!!”

So, did others in Hollywood fight back against threats of violence against a man who had just been acquitted in a court of law – and, unlike OJ Simpson, rightly acquitted for lack of evidence?

Of course not. They joined right in. You never have to worry about people disliking you if you’re too busy pandering to them. And in Hollywood, being liked at the cocktail parties is what it’s all about, even if it means you’d prefer an innocent man go to prison. “No justice. No peace,” tweeted empty-headed diva Miley Cyrus. “This is America waddya expect?” tweeted Bill Maher, always ready to take the wrong side. “The only thing u aren’t allowed to kill in an instant is a fetus. Hey Zim, find another hobby now that u won.” Perhaps Maher’s job as political analyst is open, given the fact that Maher is obviously so terrible at it. “If u really believe racism isnt a massive problem, that the oppression of minorities is not a horrific and systemic issue. U R in denial,” tweeted white actress Ellen Page. “No. My heart is with Sybrina Fulton, Rachel Jeantel, everyone who loved Trayvon and has been sent the message that his life didn’t matter,” tweeted Lena Dunham, who apparently had five minutes to spare between performing unwatchable sex scenes.

Not one of these powerful stars felt the necessity to tweet about a single fact of the case. Not one questioned the media’s lying version of what happened. Instead, all of Hollywood took it for granted that a Hispanic member of the neighborhood watch who voted for Obama and mentored black kids hated a black teenager so much he simply decided to kill him. All of Hollywood felt it necessary to label the Sanford Police Department racist. And all of Hollywood felt compelled to inform Americans that they were still representatives of a nasty country filled with closet racists just waiting to ambush young black innocents.

The story of George Zimmerman will never be told on film. No doubt, Hollywood will tell a story about Zimmerman, but it will be a story of white racism and media heroism, of Al Sharpton’s principles and Jesse Jackson’s values and George Zimmerman’s closet cross-burning. All of that will make Hollywood feel better about the fact that it is rich, largely white, and has done nothing for the betterment of the black community.

Yeah, Hollywood’s version will be something like the Simpson’s’ TV movie version of “Homer Touches The Babysitter”. Starring Denis Franz as Homer Simpson.
TV Movie Babysitter: “You’ll go to jail!”
Denis Franz Homer: HA! With the guy we have in the White House now [Clinton]?!

we should have been warning america that this media campaign would be under way, and probably to provide a distraction from some other crap these control freaks are up to. Yup – don’t pay attention to stealing 11 million votes from americans – pay attention to guessing what happened in some florida town. There is weirder and weirder speculation, and the left is out there sounding like sixties radicals of the Weather Underground again – they never change. They want to see a riot and revolution. Don’t pay attention to anything with immigration or the economy or that wall st is doing naked derivatives again, or anything that is actually important – yank on emotions – but not about other crimes going on all the time in this country, just pay attention to what the left wants you to pay attention to. You can hear them on NPR or BAI – they interview demonstrators. they get the memes out there about hoodies and profiling and ‘white privilige’ and corporations, and of course they want money. Do you notice all the little sheep dogs who run around the crowd keeping people in a herd. They don’t want you paying attention to what the Social Engineers are up to. BAI has interviews with demonstrators in Union Square – the memes are being absorbed by the sponges out there.

    Brilliantly written article btw

The last time I have spent my hard earned $7 on Hollywood tripe was about 4 years ago and is going to stay that way. Reality of every day life is free and much better than any fiction emanating from that cesspool.

    • hpe reader

$7?! You must have gone to a breakfast time special. Last time (and I do mean Last) I went to the movies it was $12 bucks to get in and a 2nd mortgage for pop corn and a gallon bucket of soda.

      cheap night theater?

  • Deerknocker

I wonder if there is any connection between the poor opening performance of so many of this summer’s Hollywood spectaculars, and the constant load of offensive Hollywood liberal tripe we the public are subjected on seemingly a daily basis. Jamie Foxx once “joked” about his role in Django Unchained as being one in which he gets to kill all the white guys “How great is that” said Foxx. Now,why would I, a white man, go to watch a star who thinks it’s great portraying a murderer of whites? Could this be why White House Down had such poor box office performance? Do these Hollywood nitwits not think that there may be a price to be paid at the box office for spouting the liberal claptrap a good many of their potential fans abhor?

    • Seek

I doubt you even saw “White House Down” or a similar-themed movie earlier this year, “Olympus Has Fallen,” which didn’t exactly treat the North Koreans kindly. By the way, 2012 set an all-time high for domestic Hollywood box office at $10.8 billion. So much for the nonsense about movies that “nobody” sees.

Let’s face it, anyone who has an idiotic name like “Trayvon” is just asking to be shot!

I would put more emphasis on primitivism as “cool.” I wrote about such matters here: http://clarespark.com/2013/04/16/blogs-on-anarchismpunkprimitivism/. “Blogs on anarchism/punk/primitivism.” That primitivism is racist and reeks of “ritual rebellion” is beyond their bohemian heads.

    You’re a racist.

It’s hard to understand why the opinions of any of these idiots — clownish, drug-addled Hollywood retards; illiterate, brawling, wife-beating “professional athletes,” and all the rest — deserve the slightest serious attention except as bizarre entertainment, like going to see the antics of the lunatics confined at Bedlam.
The 140-character limit on tweets suits their incoherent grunts and yawps perfectly: their literacy level wouldn’t qualify a child for promotion from first to second grade.
And their intellectual “development” and maturity were arrested at the level of a toddler who’s just on the verge of understanding (but doesn’t quite) that he needs to tell Mommy that he needs to go potty, instead of making poopoo in his diaper.

As actors, they will follow their scripts.

  • 1Indioviejo1

What will the Hollywood crowd do now that Rachel Jeantel, the prosecution’s star witness said to Piers Morgan on CNN that Trayvon thought that it was a gay man stalking him. He decided to confront and bashed Zimmerman under the assumption that he was a gay rapist trying to force himself on little ol’ Trayvon. It is out there folks.

  • tokoloshiman

Hollywood ! the new arbiters of the law of the land. those hypocrites need to climb back into their crack pipes and get smoked!.

  • Nabuquduriuzhur

Does anyone care about Hollywood now?

This is the third year in a row that 9 of 10 movies have lost money. The “most popular” show on TV got 0.3% of the viewers.

by contrast, the old movie and old sitcom disk business is doing really well.

    • Kolobok42

Watching WKRP as I read this. When it’s over I may or may not watch something else, but there’s nothing else I watch as regularly, because nothing else on where I live is that interesting.

Where exactly did you get your numbers? Our film industry is highly profitable. When you add up domestic and international box office, DVD rental and sales, pay per view, and web streaming downloads, the U.S. film industry has a huge set of revenue sources. Check your facts first.

  • brigin

Hollywood is subsidized by the Government. $10′s of Billions of our tax money flows to these creeps. Why is the government funding all the major media corporations in this country from MSNBC to PBS?

    • Seek

Tax credits are a good economic bargain. Michigan credits helped Clint Eastwood shoot “Gran Torino” in Detroit. Don’t believe every idiot point Shapiro makes.

The “mainstream media” and Hollywood are becoming more and more concerning, as well as more dangerous. The last thing we would expect to see is Hollywood become not only the official propaganda arm of the Obama administration or any of the other Socialists/Communists/Progressives in our government, but also become a fifth column establishing thought-police against those that disagree with their view of humanity. Disinformation leads to demonization. And demonization leads to the possibility of another holocaust. I liked it when Jeff Nyquist once told of a psychologist who said that if people stop believing in God, they will start believing in ideology. Once that happens, people will cast their shadow of the devil on someone else. In other words, people will start blaming their problems on someone else just like what Hitler did to the Jews who he said they were responsible for Germany’s economic disaster. When in fact it was the Germans that brought that upon themselves during WW1 when they were doing submarine attacks on civilian ships, tried to make Mexico go to war with the US, and the Black Tom explosion on US soil. And yet it was Hitler that made enemies in the first place. And the Left in the US is doing the same thing. Are we starting to become like Europe? We cannot allow anti-racist/anti-prejudice fascists to infiltrate the civil rights movement, or civil rights will become a thing of the past.

Angry about the degenerate morals of Hollywood, White gentile readers? Blame those who overwhelmingly control it (from the ferd’s mouth, so to speak): http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-stein19-2008dec19,0,4676183.column

    • Kolobok42

The degenerate morals of Hollyweird are their own. What’s your excuse?

      • UCSPanther

Don’t feed that “thing”. Just flag its comments as inappropriate, because it just resorts to childish behavior when challenged.

Probably despised by its own kind because it likes to hang out here for some reason.

    • OfficialPro

Oh this again? “Jews control Hollywood”? More like atheists control Hollywood. Judaism ain’t got nothing to do with it.

  • Kolobok42

Hollywood is just playing true to type. Reality, in the form of facts and evidence are anathema to them.

  • DogmaelJones1

Hollywood stars, entertainers, performers, not to mention directors and producers, are not known for their intellectual acumen or moral behavior. They have been co-opted and used by the Left because the Left allows them to pretend to be point men in the battle for “social justice,” while the Left in academia brainwashes students with the story of how awful the country is that allows Hollywood stars et al. live in luxury.

Not exactly a convincing argument. Almost all of the people Ben Shapiro quotes are singers/rappers or TV hosts. Only one — Ellen Page — is in any sense a film person — and she’s not even American. (For those wondering, she’s Canadian.)

Proof once more that sticking the trigger word “Hollywood” into a title, and several times in the first paragraph, a coherent argument does not make. Perhaps Ben can star in a movie of his own. Let’s call it “Boy Story.”

    • OfficialPro

Canadians in Hollywood are even bigger idiots. Just look at Jim Carrey.

  • gatekeeper96740

Keep it up Hollywood and you will go broke. Just keep opening you ignorant yap.

    • Seek

Go see some movies instead of believing the ridiculous points made by Shapiro.

      • gatekeeper96740

The same points were made by Shapiro, sorry I don’t watch T.V. ?
        He must be pretty smart.
And I stopped going to the movies in the 1980′s.

  • curaecivem

Finally. A ring of truth in the din of anarchy. Thank you.

  • FalkoBaumgartner

Watch Hollywood movies online, don’t buy DVDs. If they are really such salon socialists, they have no reason to complain, do they?
