Great article. It shows what social dynamics and what appeared to be scientific possibilities would make the progressives dream of a redemption through social engineering. It also points out the fallout from the unbelief in original sin. It would be helpful to explore if some back then saw the rise of the industrialists as a fourth source of power that seemed poised to supplant the three branches of government.

I thought this an excellent brief explication of Progressivism. I would point out that Progressivism with its accompanying "technocratic" elite, is just Plato's elitism warmed over with the modern veneer - the essential is still that an elite should rule lesser men (quite obviously the creed of Obama, Sebelius, Clinton, etc.).

And another note about the Constitution: not only was a system of checks and balances instituted, but an even more important feature was that the government was to have only limited , enumerated powers - no general grant of power was given to Congress, and certainly no general police power. With Obamacare, we see the failure of both of these protections: Congress seized powers not granted by the Constitution, and the Courts failed to act as a check upon Congress largely because too many judges and justices are personally sympathetic to socialized medicine.

Good article.

Progressive ideas are over 100 years old. Despite their propaganda, progressives rely on archaic superstitions and corrupt traditions refuted by science just 20 years after the start of progressive movement. It's just cover for the same criminal political bosses.

Advocates sell politics as forcing two opponents to sit down and compromise peacefully instead of relying on violence.

But today the disagreements become self contrived, and we have many people profiteering off politics alone.

The Founders' view of the check-and-balance triune government system was and is a workable system, except when members of one or more branches are overwhelmingly pussies, as are the republicans in Congress. They have all become so moderate that we have a hard time telling the "conservatives" from the "moderates" from the "progressives" and "liberals." Only the extremes stand out, as Senator Ted Cruz did in October. God bless him.

If one branch doesn't stand indeologically against the encroachments of the other, and act on their stand, then the system is broken. That's what we have presently.
