New Britain is really becoming a cool place. Why why would have thought that stuffy old Albion, which won the fight against child marriage for thirteen year olds in the 19th century, would now be introduced to the exotic practice of marrying off 2-year-olds.
This is truly a brave new world. And it takes brave people to walk its streets and protect its 2-year-olds.
A two-year-old child was identified as a potential victim of forced marriage by the UK’s Forced Marriage Unit, it has emerged.
The child was was the youngest among at least 250 children helped by the unit in 2012, according to figures reported by the BBC.
Authorities can intervene when they believe there is a risk that children under 18 may become victims of forced marriage.
Civil courts have the power to prevent weddings taking place by issuing Forced Marriage Protection orders.
It emerged last year that a five-year-old girl had been forced into a marriage and in 2011 the Forced Marriage Unit dealt with 400 children.
From 5-year-olds down to 2-year-olds. What’s next? 1-year-olds? Fetuses? Even Mohammed had the decency not to go lower than six or seven. But at this rate before long, Muslim men will be marrying eggs or chromosomes.
Saudi marriage officiant Dr. Ahmad al-Mu’bi told Lebanese television viewers last week that it’s permissible for girls as young as 1 to marry — as long as sex is postponed.
Al-Mu’bi’s remarkable comments also included an explanation that “there is no minimal age for entering marriage.”
I guess the in-the-womb marriages are on then.
