700 Special Forces Vets Ask Congress for Benghazi Investigation Committee

The media has done its very best to bury Benghazigate and Obama Inc. have batted the ball around, offering fake firings and laying blame on a movie. The perpetrators have not faced justice and many roam the streets of Benghazi today.

As Hillary “What Difference Does It Make” Clinton washes the blood off her hands and uses her disastrous tenure as Secretary of State to launch a presidential campaign, 700 retired special forces professionals are asking Congress to pick up the investigation.

The signers include two Navy SEALS who are Medal of Honor winners; Michael Thornton and Thomas Norris. Norris’s citation is especially relevant to the events in Benghazi.

During the period 10 to 13 April 1972, Lieutenant Norris completed an unprecedented ground rescue of two downed pilots deep within heavily controlled enemy territory in Quang Tri Province.

Lieutenant Norris, on the night of 10 April, led a five-man patrol through 2,000 meters of heavily controlled enemy territory, located one of the downed pilots at daybreak, and returned to the Forward Operating Base (FOB).

On 11 April, after a devastating mortar and rocket attack on the small FOB, Lieutenant Norris led a three man team on two unsuccessful rescue attempts for the second pilot. On the afternoon of the 12th, a Forward Air Controller located the pilot and notified Lieutenant Norris.

Dressed in fishermen disguises and using a sampan, Lieutenant Norris and one Vietnamese traveled throughout that night and found the injured pilot at dawn. Covering the pilot with bamboo and vegetation, they began the return journey, successfully evading a North Vietnamese patrol.

If there is anyone who can speak credibly about never leaving a man behind and doing everything possible, above and beyond the call of duty, to save him, it’s Norris.

The letter asks for a committee to investigate a number of questions including the big question of the lack of military support for American personnel under fire.

1. Why was there no military response to the events in Benghazi?
a. Were military assets in the region available? If not, why not?
b. If so, were they alerted?
c. Were assets deployed to any location in preparation for a rescue or recovery attempt?
d. Was military assistance requested by the Department of State? If so, what type?
e. Were any US Army/Naval/USMC assets available to support the US diplomats in Benghazi during the attack?
f. What, if any, recommendations for military action were made by DOD and the US Africa Command?
2. What, if any, non-military assistance was provided during the attack?

It also asks for information about the people responsible for what happened

6. Who was in the White House Situation Room (WHSR) during the entire 8-hour period of the attacks, and was a senior US military officer present?

7. Where were Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey during the crisis, and what inputs and recommendations did they make?

8. Where were Tom Donilon, the National Security Advisor, Denis McDonough, his deputy, Valerie Jarrett and John Brennan during the attacks, and what (if any) recommendations or decisions did any of them make?

And again about the lack of support

9. Why were F-16 fighter aircraft based in Aviano, Italy (less than two hours away) never considered a viable option for disruption (if not dispersal) of the attackers until “boots on the ground” (troop support–General Dempsey’s words) arrived?

10. Were any strike aircraft (such as an AC-130 gunship) in the area or possibly overhead that would cause former SEAL Tyrone Woods to laser-designate his attacker’s position and call for gunship fire support, thereby revealing his own location that led to his death?

11. Who gave the order to “STAND DOWN” that was heard repeatedly during the attacks?

12. What threat warnings existed before the attack, and what were the DOD and DOS responses to those warnings? What data (which will reveal exact timelines and command decisions) is contained within the various SITREPS, records, logs, videos and recordings maintained by the myriad of DOD, Intelligence Community and State Department Command Centers that were monitoring the events in Benghazi as they unfolded?

13. Why did the Commander-in Chief and Secretary of State never once check in during the night to find out the status of the crisis situation in Benghazi?

And it asks about the cover-up

16. Why are so many agencies now requiring their personnel that were involved in or have access to information regarding the events that took place in Benghazi sign Non-Disclosure statements?

The letter concludes

We ask that you fulfill your responsibilities to the American people and take appropriate action regarding Benghazi. With over sixty members of the US House of Representatives calling for this Select Committee already, it seems that the time is right to take appropriate action on Benghazi.

Unfortunately, the boot-lickers who make up the vast majority of what calls itself a 'news media' will bury and distort this story, just as they have already been doing, as they did when the swift-boaters told the truth about kerry. Good luck to them.

    • White Hunter

Absolutely correct. Indeed, they've twisted the term "to swift-boat" to mean "to slander," which, of course, is exactly the OPPOSITE of its true meaning: "to expose the disgraceful truth about" a traitor, liar, braggart, etc., e.g. the "war hero" John Kerry.

      • Devildog263

At least the "war hero" John Kerry actually served in a combat zone, as opposed to Dubya, who used his family and wealth to become a draft-dodger in uniform. Many of us who fought there remember well that the national guard at that time was virtually impossible to get into if one was not VERY well connected. Big, tough-talking, war-mongering, Clueless George and his staff (like almost all politicians in Washington, D.C.) were quite happy to send others into the horror of combat as long as they or their loved ones didn't have to get bloody in the literal sense. God bless George Senior, but he raised a dim-witted coward to follow in his political footsteps.
And traitor? Why, because he spoke out about the true nature of our quagmire in Vietnam? I respect your right to disagree, but here is one of many Marine combat veterans who understood early on why "wasting" was another word for killing. It wasn't related to trash or garbage; it signified that another human life had been wasted. Maybe you too have seen close-up or even participated in combat. Maybe not.
I am only here to point out to youngsters reading this that regardless of political agendas, John Kerry served his country and went to war in Vietnam. G.W. Bush used connections to avoid that. The Swift Boaters supported Bush for president, and slandered a Vietnam Veteran in order to support Bush. The rest of the story is irrelevant.

        • Devildog263

This is Devildog263 again. To be even more clear to those too young to know this, during the Vietnam war, service in the National Guard and Reserve components were seen as a way to avoid combat. Although some number of Guard and Reserve units were in fact "called-up" to combat duty in every US war since they were founded,[1] the risk was especially low in the 1970s. Only 8700 of these soldiers were sent to Vietnam, 0.3% of the personnel who served. Furthermore, a greatly disproportionate number of famous, wealthy, and/or politically connected young men received slots in the Guard or Reserves during Vietnam, including 360 professional athletes such as Bill Bradley and Nolan Ryan.[2]
Commenting on this disparity, General Colin Powell wrote in his autobiography, "I am angry that so many sons of the powerful and well placed and many professional athletes (who were probably healthier than any of us) managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units. Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to our country."[3]

Oh yes please, take this opportunity to smear W. Anything but discuss the topic at hand

          • Devildog263

Note: I simply replied to another person's comment regarding "swift-boating"; I have no intent of shifting the focus of this truly important conversation about who to blame for four deaths. They were indeed tragic. So were the 58,000+ American and uncountable North and South Vietnamese deaths a long time ago in a place far away. I responded with my comments only to point out the absurdity of a draft-dodger being painted as a hero while an honest-to-God combat veteran got smeared by a bunch of politically motivated lackeys who also happened to be combat veterans. News flash for all readers: being a combat veteran does not infer wisdom upon anybody, me included. But it does warrant the respect of those they swore to protect and defend and for whom so many gave and continue to give their lives. What happened to Kerry at the hands of fellow warriors was shameful and unforgivable.
I do wonder why you didn't address your comment on the shift of focus to White Hunter? What does John Kerry have to do with anything being discussed here?
If you disagree with the simple facts I presented regarding W, please correct them. He did what he did. He is a draft-dodger. He's your hero, not mine. If you want a war, even a justified one, then sign up and go fight it, and if for any reason you can't do that then send your sons and daughters to fight it. If you are not willing to do that, then you have no legitimate standing in any serious discussion about sending our brave troops into harm's way for any reason.

          • Devildog263

Correction: I wrote "infer wisdom." I meant to write "confer wisdom." Lest I get called on that!

          • omnipresent parker

Twist it any way that helps ya sleep pal.
Show me where i proclaim: W is my "hero" or that I'm "pro-war".
Mindless drivel . Presumably to further distance yourself from the topic (Benghazi cover up by der komrade barry and co)..
            You're simple.

          • Devildog263

Very thoughtful and insightful reply. Few things are more enjoyable than engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed man. No problem sleeping for me, and I have no doubt it isn't a problem for you either. Even when you are awake.
I won't bother to confuse you with any more facts, or subjects that make you uncomfortable.
I visit this site every once in awhile to see if I can hook a truly simple person and see what he or she has to say about important topics. Some posters do have interesting and enlightened views that challenge one's own views – always a good thing. However, I am never disappointed in the entertainment value offered up by mental giants like you who accuse me of being simple.
Have a nice life, and be careful what you "know". It gets in the way of thinking.
I'm bored. I'm outta here. Thanks for the laugh, "pal!"

          • omnipresent parker

Pfft.. that's the best you've got? There is no battle here (sorry to disappoint you). I simply pointed out your feeble attempt(s) to defer the subject at hand. As for wasting time engaging in interesting and enlightened discourse; what is the point? You've demonstrated zombie-esqe responses thus far. I'd be kidding myself to think you'd have anything stronger than you've offered.

Who gave the order to "stand down" …that's the question here, isn't it?

  • JacksonPearson

Add, why are SEAL Team Six being systematically picked off?

  • gee59

How about the Media coverup just before elections?

It is about time that the push heats up…have been doing all I can from half way across the world, as have others whom I work with, both in the US & Israel – http://adinakutnicki.com/2013/04/08/benghazigates

In a lesser criminal regime, the perpetrators would be behind bars by now.

  • Ar'nun

Daniel; soon after the Benghazi attack you wrote an article that pretty much summed it all up and answered most, if not all of these questions. I believe you answered those questions pretty accurately, and that is what Obama is afraid to reveal. It essentially comes back to the fact that he was the head cheerleader waving his pom poms and rooting on the terrorist uprising known as the Arab Spring. It would have been contradictory of his message of unity with the Mideast, and claims of Democracy rising in these places had an AC130 gun ship came and rescued our people. It would have ruined the Neo-Progressive agenda of the past 10 years to suddenly have to admit that they were wrong about Islam. Plus it may have weakened al Qaeda's control of Libya. So Obama and company sacrificed 4 Americans that day. In their minds this was an acceptable loss.

  • Spider

This is the standard operating procedure for the Obama administration

    1) First lie about it. — If the lie is exposed then
    2) Blame it on someone else — If this is proven false then
    3) Go into full cuverup mode — If this fails
    4) Rally the Troops (complient media , administraion lackies, Democrap Congressmen, Security Officers etc.) to intimidate, threaten lie and persecute, witnesses to institute DAMAGE CONTROL

The Proletarian Low Information Voter Orwellian Mass Media dropped the investigation. End of Story.
