In his Cairo speech, Barack Hussein Obama said, “Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”
Certainly the slave markets of the Muslim world and the ethnic cleansing of Jews and Christians by Mohammed’s deathbed command did indeed demonstrate the possibilities of tolerance and equality. And then it took a sword to their necks and sawed off their heads.
But it’s important to remember that Islam didn’t just give us majestic spires, timeless arches, cherished slave markets and timelessly elegant ethnic cleansing. It also led the way in feminism. Just ask the 15 year old girl begging not to be sold for $17,500.
In an interview, the groom insisted that his marriage was “legal and correct,” and that he paid a $17,500 dowry to marry the girl, who is the daughter of a Yemeni father and Saudi mother.
That’s why she came so cheap.
The 90-year-old told the story of his first night with the bride. He said she entered the bedroom before him, and she locked the door from inside so he could not enter. This, he said, made him “suspicious about some kind of conspiracy” by the girl and her mother.
It was one of those, “Don’t Want to be Raped” conspiracies that Muslim authorities are usually good at breaking up under the authority of Mohammed, the original feminist, who married a six-year old.
