Al Qaeda’s Two Groups Now Fighting Each Other in Syria

Would it really be such a bad thing if this war never ended?

The Al Nusra Front was originally spawned by Al Qaeda in Iraq. But it got too big and too powerful and when Al Qaeda in Iraq tried to claim control over it, the Al Nusra Front refused.

So Al Qaeda in Iraq began asserting its own presence in Syria, and unsurprisingly, for a group that carries on an insane murderous terror campaign in Iraq, began settling the problem the old-fashioned way.

Zawahiri tried to talk them both out of it. But no dice.

Members of two Al-Qaeda-affiliated rebel groups have clashed in Syria’s northeastern Hasakeh province, with one group seizing the local headquarters of the other, a Syrian NGO said on Sunday.

“ISIS fighters on Saturday attacked the Nusra Front regional headquarters in Shadadi, taking control of the headquarters and seizing weapons and oil production equipment,” the group said.

The two sides clashed, but the Observatory said Al-Nusra had relatively few fighters at the headquarters because they are currently battling Kurdish forces elsewhere in the region.

Al-Nusra Front has pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda chief Ayman Al-Zawahiri, but its leader rejected an ISIS merger bid.

So while the Al-Nusra Front was tied down shooting Kurds, the ISIS boys stepped in to take advantage because there is no honor among Islamists.

Note the seizure of oil production equipment. They make prattle on about Islam and the Caliphate, but it’s really about cold hard cash.

The tank is being towed. i wonder if any of the professional jihadis who wear their religion on their sleeves are decent mechanics or is that beneath them.

If being a mechanic is beneath them, I wonder if all the minutiae and esoterica of running a city or country is beneath them?

    • Drakken

They are good at jerry rigging them, but when it comes to repairs, that tank isn’t going to run for too long.

Definition of a tanks critical characteristics,

Tank = Armor, firepower and mobility.

This tank is not terribly mobile against a well trained or technologically superior enemy the tank is more like a liability, an ersatz bunker.

People using this tank would be better off in a bunker if helicopters and A-10 were around.

but I like my Al Qaeda types extra crispy.

        • Drakken

A tank is great when it is moving, but when it is broke down it is nothing more than a target. They are a great asset when they are on your side.

            Well said.

Yes yes, but you are missing the real question -whats the best sauce?

Muslims think that maintenance is women’s work – males fight and women do the rest. Of course can’t have women in the army.

That is the reason Libya had 3 aircraft per pilot

Let them have at it until they’re fighting over the fruit of a date palm.

      • tickletik

Then come in and carry away the date palm! Hehe!

  • Drakken

Oh good, sit back, and watch them eat each other, better than watching football.

I guess there aren’t any Syrian Jews left to persecute and Syrian Christians are getting scarce, so they have to turn on each other like rabid dogs.

  • Hard Little Machine

Let’s give chemical weapons to all of them.

Sit back, relax, watch, enjoy the popcorn.
