Americorps Tells White Students to Wear White Armbands as Reminder of White Privilege

I assume that the Yellow Stars are coming next.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction runs several programs that heavily emphasize racial issues in public schools.

Some feel that one of those programs – an Americorps operation called VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) – may go a bit overboard by encouraging white students to wear a white wristband “as a reminder about your (white) privilege.”

The webpage also offers a series of suggestions for high schools students to become more racially sensitive. They include:

Wear a white wristband as a reminder about your privilege, and as a personal commitment to explain why you wear the wristband.

I assume that this lovely exercise concludes with the expected privilege ritual suicide?

Truth be damned. "White" people aren't white any more than "black" people are black. It's a forced distinction. They should make people wear wristbands (assuming you're not allergic to the material) matching their skin color and tone. I would wear a medium-dark tan to remind me of the tan on my otherwise yellow-pink skin and my unfortunate elevated risk of skin cancer.

What do Mariah Varey, Niki Minaj and Barak Obama have to wear?

    • SCREW SOCIALISM

Black on one side, White on the other.

Flicker1, you are right. Skin color is due to the amount of melonine in our skin. The variations are linitless. The only true "white" people in the world are called "Albinos". That is because they lack melonine, and are prone to sickness because of this lack.

obama gets to wear 2, one white , one black. Or they could make a half black, half white one…

    • Deep Space

So when I go to bed "at night" its a forced distinction because the night really isn't black.

Ah, Ethnic Studies/Gender Studies/Identity Politics on Parade. It's not a beautiful thing.

Watch them accuse students who refuse to wear said armband as "whitesplaining".

  • Flicker1

    It's a false distinction.

And what do Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Barack Obama have to wear?

    • kasandra

If you think they're going to be confused about this, just try to imagine the conundrum Sen. Warren will be in.

  • Toni_Pereira

Maybe left-wing academics should wear donkey ears, so they can remember the jackasses they really are…

    So Nazi.

  • YS770

Whoever came up with this one should walk through Harlem or Bed-Stuy in blackface.

  • Ghostwriter

That's just unbelievably stupid. Why do that?

    • Mary Sue

apparently to the Identity Politics crowd, Informing Whites Of Their White Privilege is The MOst Important THing Ever, because it causes Whites to realize their White Guilt. Which somehow causes them to realize how racist they "really are". Because this will somehow fix the problem or something.

The problem is, Identity Politics true believers do not function in the real world of logic. Their ideas make no sense at all to regular people who still know what logic is. It's all emotionalism.

  • Spikey1

The African American folk should wear black / dark brown armbands as a reminder of; the skin color that the folk who captured and sold their forefathers, to the white man, had.

I'm not even going to touch upon the subject of Muslim folk who own African slaves.
    oops….

  • Tagfu222

I wonder what the reaction of the people who came up with this idea if those wristbands had something like "White and Proud" or "White Power" written on them. Would they realize what an idiotic idea they came up with

That is what Sharpie™ markers are for.

  • Rifleman

Wisconsin department of public instruction and VISTA personnel should wear dunce caps to signify their stupidity.

  • John Stone

It is the old Catholic guilt trip recycled in secular clothes.

  • tagalog

So now we have government programs singling out particular groups for special treatment?

    How far we've come.

It has that "violation of the equal protection clause of the XIVth Amendment" stench about it. Sue the s**t out of VISTA.

  • Raymond in DC

If this is being run under a Wisconsin department, one would think Scott Walker could put a stop to it and sanction the ones responsible.

This is the dysfunctional thinking that results from an anti-white mass media indoctrinating traditional white Americans to accept a "shame code" that is unjust and irrational. Enough with this Nonsense.

Here's a video that celebrates white history, not disparaging it! http://youtu.be/rl-PUgGYRBA

They can't tell they are white without wristbands ?

For every bit of "proof" they can supply of supposed white privilege they can be countered with 2 or 3 facts.
That is why they hammer the term "white privilege " to the media and children but they never produce factual info .

Every single race, ethnicity ,culture, sex, age, religion and nationality has had slavery. Africa has had slavery for over 5,000 years and still does.
The US had slavery from 1776-1865. There were tens of thousands of black slave owners in the US and Indian. There were as many white slaves as black. Children orphaned on ships were sold as slaves. 2 million Irish and Scots were slaves.
