A small group of protesters arrived outside the headquarters of the Liberal Party of Ontario whose Labour Minister had endorsed an Islamic guide book that included wife-beating tips.
One of them pretended to be an Imam while another, a woman in a Burqa, pretended to be his wife, and they satirically mocked the Liberal Party’s tolerance for Islamic Sexism.
Protesters carried signs reading “Beat wife only for honour & discipline, Holy Koran 4:34” and “Those that deny Islam will be killed, Holy Koran 33:16”
Using a microphone, he gave a mock Muslim sermon, assisted by the veiled woman. He was “praising” Canada as a place, where you can beat your wife with impunity. Reading from sheets of paper, he also counted all the benefits you would get here if you are a religious fanatic.
It was a performance not too different from some actual Islamist rallies
Brazau “gave a mock Muslim sermon, assisted by the veiled woman. He was praising Canada as a place where you can beat your wife with impunity. He also counted all the benefits you would get here if you are a religious fanatic.”
There was some laughter. But not everyone was amused.
Under Socialism, you can mock some religions but not others.
At certain point the police decided that the mockery of Islam is getting dangerous and sprang into action. Even more officers arrived and Eric Brazau, along with the other organizer, Ron Banerjee, were led to the police vehicles in the side street.
After the customary processing, Brazau was handcuffed and led away in the van. Brazau was charged with breaching previous court conditions, uttering threats and assault with a weapon.
“It was a satirical performance,” Banerjee said about what he witnessed and what he also captured on a video that is now in the hands of police.
But satire is no longer legal.
