Coal Plant Union that Endorsed Obama Protesting EPA’s War on Coal

It’s hard to feel too sorry for Boilermakers Local 154. Not only did the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers endorse Obama, but Local 154 spent the money and influence of its members pushing “clean coal”. Trying to jump on the Green bandwagon probably seemed like a clever gimmick, aside from the fact that Obama and his Green Energy minions really hate coal. Obama even said so during his first election.

So what did they really think was going to happen?

In the wake of recently announced coal plant closings, Pennsylvania unions are speaking out against strict federal environmental regulations.

Union members held a rally Friday to protest policies aimed at promoting clean energy, but which local workers believe cripple the coal industry.

“In the war on coal, we are not going to surrender, and you are the soldiers who are going to fight back,”Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Tim Murphy said to the crowd of about 150 workers outside the Boilermakers Local 154 union hall.

Existing regulations plus new ones in the pipeline are projected to close more than 280 coal plants in the coming years, according to the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity.

“If the Obama administration fails to recognize the environmental progress the industry has made and continues to adopt more regulations, coal power could cease to exist, which would be devastating for our economy,” said Mike Duncan, the organization’s president.

Which is not a problem for Obama. If instead of wasting money and energy on pushing Clean Coal, 154’s members had pushed back against Obama in a major swing state, maybe they wouldn’t be looking at the end of their jobs.

The left has been successfully able to play divide and conquer with people like these.  Unions for actual working people are slowly waking up to realize that their jobs and way of life are next on the wealth redistribution menu.

Like most unions…their members are blind sheep herded by leftist union leaders…

    • Bryan Schmick

In this case, the union leaders were also blind. Being an accomplice to laying off members in their own union hardly sounds like a good move to keep those union fees rolling in.

This is what happens when Unions value Gay Marriage, Legalizing Pot, and other such things that don’t actually involve Labor Issues, over actual things that would affect their entire employment existence.

Ah but Obama has a plan. He will subsidize solar cells. I was in Home Depot the other day and a woman there told me I could have solar cells installed on my roof for free because the government is concerned about carbon dioxide emissions. I doubt free is true but probably a large amount of it is paid by the U.S. government, i.e. you and me. Putting in all those solar cells will create jobs, right? Wrong. For every solar installation job created several jobs will be lost because it’s not economical. The ultimate irony is the amount of coal that has to be burned to create the silicon wafers in solar cells is huge. Obama will make coal plants close so we’ll have to buy the solar cells from China where they will burn the coal. The net result for the environment will be more carbon dioxide and the net result for our economy will be more unemployment.

Just ask them to provide you with a written guarantee that you will never have to pay a power bill. The Sun and the wind are free, this is what they say!

ask the woman in home depot if she knows that solar cells are made in China using the most toxic of rare earth metals, in completely unsafe conditions? And that it requires burning things and smelting things and putting CO2 and a host of other noxious substances into the air?

Like the greenies actually care about the environment…

Dimwits, serves them right.Guess who is laughing now!

People who are willing to throw other people to the wolves to save themselves deserve what they get. I feel bad for the minions , though.

  • Rdlake

As Mooch would say “Let them eat cake”

  • Carlos SpicyWeener

Serves them right. “Clean coal”? Like grabbing a turd by the clean end. And afterwards it will be Clean Wind’s turn, if it ever becomes cost-effective.

What kills me is that Barry’s anti energy, Marxist utopian ideology was on full display in 2008. Everyone, the media and the unions included, overlooked it because he promised them trinkets. They sold their souls for shiny beads and now they want to call foul. They should have cried foul 5 years ago.
