Crazy Man Named Calliope Wong Applies to Liberal All-Girls College, PC Comedy Follows

Calliope Wong is sad

All it took to end the All-Girls College was a bunch of teenage boys putting on dresses and copying the plots of a bunch of bad 80s movies. It would all be some kind of bad joke, but liberalism is now a bad joke and has done a great job of turning our society into a bad joke.

Smith College, one of the Seven Sisters, is apparently the first of the big all-female Ivy League schools to no longer be all female. Or rather it will consist of women in dresses and men in dresses who claim to be women.

The joke began when a 17-year-old boy/man who called himself Calliope Wong (yes the jokes write themselves) applied to Smith College and was turned down on the grounds that he wasn’t a woman.

Wong hadn’t even bothered going the usual medical genital mutilation route formally known as a sex change operation. He basically just wore his hair long and claimed to identify as a woman.

As Wong says on his Tumblr (naturally he has a Tumblr)

But in order to be legally recognized as “female” on my birth certificate according to BOTH Massachusetts and Connecticut law, I have to undergo vaginoplasty (feminizing genital surgery). From what I understand, Smith College will only evaluate me as a “real” girl if I get sex reassignment surgery.

If I understand Smith correctly, this is perhaps the most obscene of rights violations that I have ever witnessed from a school. It’s not a loud and boisterous violation, which is all the worse: its sly wording hurts just as much but is hard to detect. By simply stating that only “females” may be allowed to apply and attend Smith, Smith College sets the bar for transwomen applicants impossibly high.

The “impossibly high” bar consists of at least basic cosmetic surgery to look like a woman. As opposed to just putting on a dress and claiming to be a woman.

Or as Mr. Wong puts it…

-transwomen may not even feel the need for genital surgery. Some transwomen do not experience extreme dysphoria about the state of their genitalia, and opt not to undergo vaginoplasty.

Or in other words, some men who pretend to be women see nothing inconsistent about staying male. I think the technical term for that is cross-dressing. But we’re getting into Bosom Buddies: The College Years territory here.

Is this entire thing a scam brought on by difficulty getting into a good school? Probably not, but it would make for a funny movie if it were.

Ten years ago, Smith College would have laughed off Calliope Wong, who would have gone to an ambitious career of screaming at people on streetcorners. Today that’s no longer an option.

Mr. Wong has gotten coverage from every major news outlet. (Just ask those same outlets to cover something minor like the Newsom murders)  And Smith College has thrown up the white flag. It is no longer an All-Girls School. It is a school for women and men in women’s clothing.

“From the beginning, I was attracted to Smith as a college for ‘iron women,’ women who had the willpower and knowledge to effect real change in society,” Wong said in an email. “As a third-wave feminist, I definitely saw Smith as a place for the empowerment of visionary, vocal and practical women who worked to close the gap between ideal and reality.”

Men are apparently the new “iron women”.

I can't believe this, that has got to be the stupidest thing I have heard of. Is this guy serious? and the School is breaking every rule it ever made, and I'm sure Its charter. If they fold up like a cheap lawn chair over something as crazy as this, why bother with the dress or long hair, just tell'em your a woman in a man's body and don't feel you need surgery, but you are a lesbian and dress in men's clothing and date women. You must be accommodated….Sick.

    • Jojo

Oh my god your ignorance is deafening. It's posts like this and people like you that make me wonder if the internet is worth keeping anymore.

      • Mary Sue

Ignorance is not realizing that men pretending to be women have raped women. In women's washrooms.

Citations please? You know.. evidence? Facts?

I know "Mass Resistance" claimed four such occurrences in one county, but both county sheriffs and police records showed they were making things up. Same with their tales of Transsexuals raiding churches and performing surgeries on kidnapped members of the congregation (as described in their 127 page report on the subject). That's why they're on the list of "hate groups",in between the Muslim Brotherhood and the KKK, they deliberately lie.

      • jakespoon

If you are OK with politically correct stupidity like this,YOU have a lot of nerve to call someone ignorant..You and your friends are the reason society has went in to a nose dive into degeneracy. I wear your scorn like a diadem.

Rather than calling someone who's ill-informed "ignorant", it's better to put the evidence before them. To educate, not engage in argument.

This stuff *isn't* taught well – if at all – in schools. Yes, it's all on the Internet, the facts, the medical journals and so on, but life's too short to investigate *everything*.

Put the evidence, the facts, before them. Reasonable people can differ on the interpretation and meaning of those, but at least we have a well-informed basis for discussion. Calling someone "ignorant" just because they don't know anything about an obscure subject, and don't even realise they know nothing about it, isn't helpful.

The Apostle Paul "nailed it" in his letter to the Romans Chapter 1, verses 18-32: (Here quoted in part.) Because people refused to acknowledge what was evident of God in His creation "Therefore God gave them over to the lust of their hearts to impurity that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passion…the men…burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts….And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind."

  • A Friend

Wow! I'm surprised. Out of all of the thing going on in the world this "writer" (If you could even call them that, seeing as how I've read better papers written by my 2nd grade sister) chooses to discuss why this young WOMAN doesn't have the right to better her self by perusing an education. Not only is Gender Dysphoria recognized as an actual medical problem, but saying that this woman has to receive genital surgery to even be consider for admission is discriminatory. If I man was in an accident leaving in castrated, I'd be willing to be money he would still be allowed to apply to an all male school. The fact that things like this still happen make me wonder if America really is the land of the free.
I'm routing for you Calliope. Don't let anyone tell stop you!

    • I Think :D

Holy crap nuggets someone here actually has a brain AND uses it. On the internet. On an article discussing a controversial issue.

Bravo. Faith in humanity is mildly restored.

    • Mary Sue

Calliope can no more be a woman than he-she can be a starfish.

    • F.K. Juliano

Instead writing the word WOMAN in all-caps, you should have hacked the Frontpage site so that you could write it in a giant 72-point typeface. Then everybody would have been convinced that Wong is indeed of the female gender, penis, testicles, and Y-chromosomes in each of his 50 trillion cells notwithstanding.

By the way, I hope you're not teaching your second-grade sister to write "her self" as two words. Also, "gender dysphoria" shouldn't be capitalized, not even if it were a real medical condition. I normally wouldn't mock someone for being semiliterate, but you opened yourself to it.

    • Trebuchet

Oh c'mon! I saw this skit on Benny Hill back in the 70's.

    • Ar'nun

"Gender Dysphoria recognized as an actual medical problem"

So was demonic possession at one point in time. Just because a consensus of Academics input their bias into an opinion doesn't make it right. Surgically removing your genitals clearly throughout psychiatric history has been recognized as mental illness.

If any institution starts accepting people at their word that they are not the gender they appear to be, where does it end? Ultimately you will have men competing on women's sports teams and ultimately they will feel rejected if they are not able to shower with the team like everyone else. So do the natural born women on this team not have a right to not shower or change with an individual that makes them uncomfortable?

    • LibertarianToo

Good luck "perusing" an education Calliope! A Friend is "routing" for you! -having missed out on an education him/her/itself.

Hate to break it to you, but the ADA psychiatry and psychology groups have recently succumbed to pressure by the PC police and have taken Gender Identity Disorder out of the new DSM-5 which will no longer be based on science and evidence, but the demands of the various groups sexual activists.

Soon there will be no pathological, disordered or criminal sexuality at all if the activists for pedophilia, bestiality and incest have anything to do with it, expecially since a certain aggressive and violent religion accomodates these, plus rape and necrophilia.

I guess there will always be bigots and hatred in this world – for those who are always looking for something to hate. Grow up people Calliope should be able to attend Smith!

Think about it l of you bible toting people – your priests have been raping young kids for years and the church says "forgive and forget.". Take a long, hard look at your "church" for a change and then tell me what is better?!?

    • jrscho62

As always, people like Kayleigh scream bigot and hate. This impresses me but not the way they expect. Instead of discussing an issure like a grown up, they try to bully using insults and as always look foolish.
The switch to religion is off topic and very bigoted. All you have is your hatred of anyone who does not slavishly agree with your ideas. You have not even tried to discuss the subject. As always, you throw a hissy fit, hurl insults, and look like a small child throwing a tantrum.

I identify myself as a lesbian trapped in the body of a man. I do avail myself of my moral and constitutional right to use the ladies room. And I find it remarkably liberating. It's marvelous to be in an environment in which I can be happy and content. I also cross-dress, as a man. I have had one or two.. okay, several, unfortunate incidents in which women have objected, but on the good side, I am big enough to handle myself physically, and so far it's worked out fine.

I'm glad you can appreciate my good fortune at being born into such an accepting and supportive historical period as is ours today.

    • Ar'nun

Another mentally inferior creature who can not put together a reasonable argument and tries to silence the opposition with claims of bigotry while stereotyping all priests as child molesters. Bravo ignorant fool!!! As the saying goes Kayleigh, it is better to remain silent and though of as a fool than to troll a Right wing magazine and type a comment that removes all doubt.

      • nicky999

People are replying to Kayleigh. Surely Kayleigh is joking as nobody is that stupid.

  • Emma

A lot of the "facts" to this story are wrong or in some cases left out of this article.

    1. Smith has not rescinded it's denial to even review Calliope's application.
    2. Smith is denying Calliope admission because her FAFSA (federal aid) application said male because she cannot change her birth certificate. You neglected to leave out that most doctors won't perform sex reassignment surgery on a minor and that it typically costs at least $15,000. Most people don't have that kind of money to spend without saving up for years, especially when you're considering it's Calliope's parents who are financially taking care of her now, and she is trying to afford college.
    3. FAFSA isn't a part of her actual application. Her application reads female everywhere, it's just financial aid information. If Calliope did not have to apply for aid, then this wouldn't have been an issue at all, so it's also a matter of classism.

    • jakespoon

He is not a she, never will be. No matter how many after-market parts are added or taken away.

      • http://aebrain.blogspot.com ZoeBrain

Maybe this will help – first, do you know the meaning of the word "Intersex"? It means someone born neither wholly male or wholly female, anatomically speaking.

It's more common than you think – 1 in 60 – but most people don't know they're Intersex. Does it really matter if a man doesn't have the 46,XY chromosomes most men do? 1 in 300 men don't, by the way.

OK, so what has this to do with Transsexual women? They're men, right? I mean, they look male at birth.

See a paper nearly 20 years old now:
A sex difference in the human brain and its relation to transsexuality. by Zhou et al Nature (1995) 378:68–70.
Our study is the first to show a female brain structure in genetically male transsexuals and supports the hypothesis that gender identity develops as a result of an interaction between the developing brain and sex hormones

Calliope had partly female anatomy when she was born. Well OK, so do many men, what matters is *which* parts. In her case – a feminised brain. Not "spiritually" or "psychologically" by anatomically feminised. Something visible on MRI and PET scans.

We know that every human with a feminised brain, be the genitalia male, female, somewhere in between, or missing entirely – has female emotional response, instincts, even senses of smell and hearing. They are, by any rational definition, women.

Unless you think genitalia is more important than mind.

To change the brain would be like unscrambling an egg – we'd have to do surgery on individual brain cells, changing them from one type to another… curing cancer and conferring immortality is dead easy in comparison.

But as it turns out, it's ridiculously easy to change the body to (mostly) match the brain, and in the next twenty years or so, we'll be able to do it completely, rather than mostly.

Calliope's gone through as much of that process as is legal to do. Most of her documentation has been corrected. Biologically, she's more female than some of the women already attending – one in 500 women has CAH, which causes varying degrees of masculinisation.

This whole thing is caused my lack of education in biological sex, and an "Ick" factor when it comes to Trans and Intersex people.

        • Ar'nun

So could Timothy Treadwell have easily been turned into a Grizzly Bear? Could someone who identifies as a dog be turned into a dog, and would they then have a shorter lifespan?

People like Hitler believed they word G-ds and of a superior race. Should we have accepted him for this? John Wayne Gacy thought he was a straight man and suppressed his overwhelming homosexual urges. And we all know how that ended. I once read of a man who identified as a quadruple amputee, so he sawed off his own legs. Do you view that as normal?

People have all sorts of things going on "mentally". As a society there needs to be a clear line drawn to figure out what is acceptable. If Calliope considers himself a woman, it doesn't make it so regardless of what his disturbed mind tells him. He has the physical abilities of a man. What he needs is psychiatric therapy and medication before he becomes a danger to himself and others. Science is in its infancy as far as psychiatry goes. Do you really want people looking back saying, "They actually thought gentile mutilation was a good thing?"

          • laurence

so, bottom line-what do you suggest? To my knoweledge no drugs exist to control transsexuality. So, what shoudl be done? Can you answer this question?

          • http://aebrain.blogspot.com ZoeBrain

""Could someone who identifies as a dog be turned into a dog"

This is usually known as the "Giraffe Argument"., Giraffe, porpoise, or in this case, dog.

            Well…

If an MRI scan of your brain showed it to be the same as a dog…
If there were a number of medical conditions where dogs turned into people, or people into dogs…
If you go around chasing cars, urinating on lampposts etc…
If your vocabulary is limited to "Woof" and "Arf"….
If you have a dog's sense of hearing, and a dog's sense of smell… so you can hear ultrasonics…

Then yes, I'd say you were really a dog.

But unless all of the above are true, the two situations aren't remotely comparable.

This isn't a psychological issue, but an anatomical one. I don't know how to express it more simply than that.

            Sense of smell:
            Male-to-female transsexuals show sex-atypical hypothalamus activation when smelling odorous steroids. by Berglund et al Cerebral Cortex 2008 18(8):1900-1908;

            Sense of hearing:
Dichotic Listening, Handedness, Brain Organization and Transsexuality Govier et al International Journal of Transgenderism, 12:144–154, 2010

            Spatial Cognition:
Neuroimaging Differences in Spatial Cognition between Men and Male-to-Female Transsexuals Before and During Hormone Therapy by Scoening et al J Sex Med. 2009 Sep 14.

            Anatomy:
Male–to–female transsexuals have female neuron numbers in a limbic nucleus. Kruiver et al J Clin Endocrinol Metab (2000) 85:2034–2041

Regarding "psychiatric therapy" – you think it hasn't been tried over the last 60 years? We know that doesn't work. Patients die. Long-term studies show a 0.000% success rate.

"Treatment aimed at trying to change a person’s gender identity and expression to become more congruent with sex assigned at birth has been attempted in the past without success (Gelder & Marks, 1969; Greenson, 1964), particularly in the long term (Cohen-Kettenis & Kuiper, 1984; Pauly, 1965). Such treatment is no longer considered ethical. "

We had enough evidence that it didn't work, and a mountain of corpses from failed treatments over 30 years, 30 years ago

The treatment we use now – transition – has a measured 98% success rate.

        • jakespoon

I am honored that you would write a whole chapter in response to my one line post. That means I struck a nerve. What does his DNA say. You aren't born with both male and female DNA, I stand by my statement. Sick.

          • laurence

what do you even know about DNA…what an absurdity…

          • jakespoon

DioxyriboNeucleicAcid-the building block of life, everyone has it in every cell of their body and it is different in each person except identical twins. You can tell male DNA from female DNA ,once again what does the DNA say he is. Now, I've read some of your post,so what do you know about anything?Let me repeat, sick.

          • laurence

I will let you repeat it. Especially now, that you have read some of my posts.

          • jakespoon

Didn't have to cut and paste it a-hole. I am a retired nurse, learned that on my first day in school. I actually learned that from a text book. You DO know what a book is,don't you? Thank you so much for "letting" me repeat that. Now,carry on with your perversions.

          • laurence

Well, you must be right. I have not taken into account that you may have been a retired nurse. After all, it is retired nurses who nowdays lead on genetic mapping and other 'stuff' you know, DNA-related stuff. You bring a smile to my face, wonderful, and we quickly come to my perversions (which I hope I had).

          • jakespoon

I never said I was an expert, you accused me of cutting and pasting an explanation of DNA,I told you that I didn't and gave you my qualifications to know the basics of the subject. It sounds to me like you want to denigrate the fact that I am just a nurse. Well too bad for you ,. BTW,you've never given your qualifications to make your assertions. "You aren't born with both male and female DNA"

Actually I was, but mostly my body is 46,XY.

As is this woman''s – and her daughter's
"A 46,XY mother who developed as a normal woman underwent spontaneous puberty, reached menarche, menstruated regularly, experienced two unassisted pregnancies, and gave birth to a 46,XY daughter with complete gonadal dysgenesis. 1 in 300 men aren't 46,XY. Some women are. It's more complicated than the simplified child's version you were taught in grade school.

Keegan, this is -increasingly -my impression too. A couple of weeks ago there was a stream of features about government research grants for obesity and alcholism among lesbians, in the same mocking style. Cowardly or not-I do not know, I am no judge of Daniel's character, but this barrage of pure and plaine silliness and semi-professionalism really makes me unwilling to read other features on the FPM. The idea of respecting all opinions, no matter how different from one's own, seems laudable in theory, simply the right thing for a civilized human being to do. When theory encounters real-life liberals, however, it comes crashing down. If I ever had any respect for liberals, I have lost it–all of it. If it it were up to me, they would be deprived of any say in how society is run.

That goes for our biological sex -male or female.

    • http://aebrain.blogspot.com ZoeBrain

      Reality:

Sexual Hormones and the Brain: An Essential Alliance for Sexual Identity and Sexual Orientation Garcia-Falgueras A, Swaab DF Endocr Dev. 2010;17:22-35

The fetal brain develops during the intrauterine period in the male direction through a direct action of testosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hormone surge. In this way, our gender identity (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and sexual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb. However, since sexual differentiation of the genitals takes place in the first two months of pregnancy and sexual differentiation of the brain starts in the second half of pregnancy, these two processes can be influenced independently, which may result in extreme cases in trans-sexuality. This also means that in the event of ambiguous sex at birth, the degree of masculinization of the genitals may not reflect the degree of masculinization of the brain. There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender identity or sexual orientation.

      —-

Cat – what makes you a woman? Chromosomes? Nope, there's mothers who have XY chromosomes, and a chance you may do too. So what if you do?

Genitalia? What about women who have had radical hysterectomies and vulvectomies? They're still women.

      Genitalia at birth? See http://www.usrf.org/news/010308-guevedoces.html
There's plenty of men who have fathered children who were born with female-looking genitalia. 5ARD and 17BHSD syndromes are the most common causes.

Or is it your brain, your mind, your self, your very essence, no matter what your body may look like externally?

I was born looking male by the way. That changed at puberty – something of a "get out of Hell free" card. It was… it was… it was as bad as you can imagine before then. So although I'm not technically transsexual, the 3BHSD form of CAH caused the change, not hormones and surgery – I know what Calliope went through. She's just a girl you see, like you. One born with a pretty awful congenital issue. Trying to carve out as normal a life as she can under the circumstances.

      • Ron

You are obviously insane and should not be taken seriously on any topic whatsoever.

Calliope is a man. If a calliope decides to cut his balls off, then he will have the status of a woman. An insane woman who is OK with horrific genital mutilation. Such a person also should not be accepted in society.

Stories like these read mind me of Timothy Treadwell, the Grizzly man. A documentary was done on this guy who spent summer after summer living with Grizzly Bears. In the documentary by Werner Herzog, you see that the man is clearly mentally disturbed. He is warned time and time again by experts and wildlife rangers to not go near the bears, and even not to keep his food in the same tent he sleeps in. After about an hour and a half of the documentary, it finally ends with Treadwell and his equally insane and enabling girl friend being eaten in their sleep by, guess, you a Grizzly Bear. There is only an audio recording of the predictable ending and in the first bit of sanity seen in the documentary; Herzog doesn't play the whole thing for the audience.

Treadwell believed he was a Grizzly Bear in a man's body. Yet his fellow Grizzly Bear thought Treadwell was a tasty meal, and the bear didn't give a crap what Treadwell thought.

This kid believes he is a woman in a man's body. Still doesn't make it so. Both Treadwell and Calliope believe they are not what they are. And they are both surrounded by enablers who try to normalize their disorder. One wound up Bear food, and the other may one day mutilate his gentiles. And both will be celebrated by the Left. The Left is to blame for Calliope's disappointment. All Male schools have been obliterated by the same people. Heck, even all male careers like Infantrymen are now co-ed. Yet we can see the vitriol of the same people that would push a real life woman to knock down the walls of an all Male institution.

Nah, I think Treadwell screwed up and was an eccentric, but its not at all the same. As far as I know he wasnt hurting anyone, and if he had been a bit more sensible he could have contributed something really good. Then again, maybe thats just the cost for doing that kind of work. I dont have a problem with him.

The writer of this is a complete bigot. Are you kidding me? Step into the 21st century. Sorry for all you extreme conservatives, but the times are changing and you're just going to have to deal with it. This is not an article about the actual situation, but really a chance for ass holes to get their opinions out about what they think is "right." GROW UP AND STOP BEING SO SCARED. Hey, for all we know, your son's probably a trans too.

Very well said. I am starting to understand why they (the so-called conservatives) pick on this matter in particular. From the look of it, they have no real social criticism . It is all good in theory, Obama maybe bad, Islamists are threatening, but when they (or journalists posing as conservatives) are asked to provide policy options they are either silly or mute. On one previous occassion I asked Daniel Greenfield about policy options on the issue of obesity. In response he mentioned price controls on meat-not proposing this directly, but insinuating that price controls are an option for dealing with a social issue. Well, with policy options in this style and economic education at this level what is left if not to pick on transsexuals and lesbians?

Actually YOU are going to be dealing with it. WE are getting the hell out of dodge.

Maybe gender identity disorder is real and not a politically correct construct or maybe it isn't. But if it is real, then it should be treated like any other psychosis. A man who thinks he's a dog is not given heartworm medication and taken to the pound. A man who thinks he's Napoleon Bonaparte is not given an army with which to invade Russia. Similarly, Mr. Wong (and others like him) should not be indulged in their weird delusion.

i used to work for an armoured truck service, smith and mt. holyoke were two of our accounts. i vividly remember visiting the finance office and getting the evil eye for being male and armed on campus. i'm still not sure which they considered worse, but our one female armed guard wanted nothing to do with that route.

This is not an article covering news, but the angry rantings s of a transphobic lunitic scarred to see that the world around them is not what they think it is and that things are changing in ways that they can’t understand.
