Cruz Walked Out on Castro Speech

Obama bowed and shook Raul Castro’s hand. Cruz walked out on the speech. Here’s a basic contrast between an American and an Unamerican politician.
Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) walked out of the memorial service for Nelson Mandela when Cuban “president” Raúl Castro began speaking.
“Senator Cruz very much hopes that Castro learns the lessons of Nelson Mandela,” said Sean Rushton, Cruz’s communications director. “For decades, Castro has wrongly imprisoned and tortured countless innocents. Just as Mandela was released after 27 years in prison, Castro should finally release his political prisoners; he should hold free elections, and once and for all set the Cuban people free.”
Of course Mandela was actually a big fan of Castro, but Cruz is scoring some good points by using Mandela against Obama, the way that Obama used Mandela against the GOP.
Ted Cruz was the only senator to troop down to South Africa. Though the media predictably harped on Cruz’s commenters because it doesn’t actually matter what you do. The media will find its negative angle.
Meanwhile Jimmy Carter, or Obama 1.0, jumped in to offer his take on the Obama-Castro handshake.
Former President Jimmy Carter, who was at the memorial, called the handshake “significant.”
“I think it was something significant,” Carter told CNN. “I hope that will be an omen for the future.”
