Democrats Unanimously Vote to Confirm Defense Secretary With Iranian Ties

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Joining the Democrats in the 58 to 41 vote to make Chuck Hagel and the American Iranian Council the next Defense Secretary were four Republicans, Thad Cochran (Mississippi.), Mike Johanns (Nebraska.), Richard C. Shelby (Alabama) and Rand Paul (Kentucky.)

Lautenberg and Udall did not vote.

The vote for a Defense Secretary who made anti-Semitic statements and has ties to Iranian lobbyists proves once and for all that Israel is no longer a bipartisan issue.

The Democratic Party joined such honorable figures as David Duke, Louis Farrakhan and Pat Buchanan in backing Hagel and Iran.

“Going back to 2001, Hagel has been opposed to U.S. sanctions on Iran and in favor of recognizing the Islamic Republic in order to normalize trade relationships,” journalist and activist Ken Timmerman told WND. “Hagel has virtually made his position on Iran identical to the policies of the Iranian government, including a demand the U.S. enter direct negotiations with Iran ‘without preconditions’ and opposing the United States’ use of military force to block Iran’s nuclear weapons development program.”

Timmerman began in the Foundation for Democracy in Iran in 1995 as part of his ongoing support for freedom in the Islamic country and in 2006 was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Sweden’s former Deputy Prime Minister Per Ahlmark for playing a major role in exposing Iran’s plans to develop nuclear weapons.

“If Hagel is confirmed as secretary of defense,” Timmerman argued, “we will have someone in charge of the U.S. military who has promoted the agenda of the Islamic Republic of Iran, an enemy of the United States since 1979, when Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Iran to begin the Iranian revolution.”

This is how much the Democratic Party cares about national defense and national security. Never mind Israel.

It seems to be the new Obama government direction. But we can all hope for change, no?

  • Keiko_Infidel

We ARE getting the CHANGE the Left HOPED for. YES, THEY CAN. No matter who dies, becomes enslaved to Islam, gets raped, or has their civilization and way of life savaged and brutalized.

Keiko, the death kneel, via the Islamist-in-Chief, is almost a done deal. With Brennan soon to head CIA, and the confiscation of legal guns next in line, the Republic will never, ever recover – http://adinakutnicki.com/2013/02/27/chuck-hagels-

Many Americans still believe that the democratic process is working, as their reps represent them. They do not. And this will become apparent in short order. An unmitigated disaster, not only for America, but for the entire west.

      A day of mourning….

What is happening to us? Is there no one who will stand up to this adminstration and prevent these incompetent appointees?

Republicans hold out for a day or two to make it seem as if they are putting up a fight, but we know it 's just a matter of time until they willingly cave. I can not give them another vote. I am sick of voting for the stupid and now incredibly spineless party.

    • cassie

Exactly, Gabrielle! After seeing what has been happening to our spineless Republicans, it's time to just stop voting altogether, because what is the point?

    • UCSPanther

The only hope for the Republican party is something like Canada's reform party movement, which is what helped to create our current Conservative government.

      • Mary Sue

Yeah. Unfortunately Ross Perot Hijacked the name back in the 90s…

    • LibertarianToo

The Democraps are the majority in the Senate. Their unanimous support for a nominal Republican tells exactly what's going on here.

Anyway, it doesn't matter who you do or do not vote for unless we can "true the vote." Active military disenfranchised, Chicago thugs voting multiple times – in Milwaukee . . .. Felons, foreigners and frauds just don't vote Republican.

  • cassie

First, it's the Democrat Party, not democratic. Just saying… Second, i cannot believe that Rand Paul voted for the confirmation of Hagel! But then again, Ron Paul was way too soft on Iran, and wasn't strong enough to stand with Israel! i feel these Senators are turncoats…and will cave to whatever the DemocRATs demand as they have done so many times before. It's a true and utter shame. The world is heading towards the end…and the blueprint that was written thousands of years ago in the Bible is being fulfilled.

    • Whaterver-Man

So it should be the Republic Party, not the Reptil…Republican Party, according to you.

  • JacksonPearson

Here are the craven, ball-less, GOP quislings that voted for Hagel:
Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lamar Alexander (R-NE), Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT), who joined Democrats in breaking the filibuster on today.

    • Daniel Greenfield

Those were the Republican votes on Cloture. Also a shameful thing, but not the four who voted for Hagel directly.

      • JacksonPearson

Do you honestly believe that this bunch won't vote for him?

        • Daniel Greenfield

Their cloture vote obviously led to the actual vote with the expected outcome.

          • JacksonPearson

That's the problem with the Pubs, lots of posturing and blather, but no action.
With them, the outcome was predictable.

  • atthebeach

The Constituency of these Repubs; along w/help from Repub Party need to make this a 'HUGE" issue . Rand with Presidential aspirations – oh excuse me – running only if he can win(?) – head, should be sent spinning off to another planet. (And Rand with it; of course. ..) So right; and so wrong. Do these Senators read anything – besides WaPo? Disgusting. Cry for our Country; our 'first line of defense' – in name only per those who voted 'for'.
Would ask what do these Democrats know; but John Kerry as already answered that question. (Not that we needed him; to 'name' it. The unmitigated ' stupid; that is.

The Democrats have an agenda and a political philosophy that fuels it. The Republicans have no agenda and no political philosophy at all. Why is everyone surprised?

I can't speak for all the demonicrats, but I've heard that Chuckie (the kapo) Schumer sees the money that can be made confiscating property from condemned Jews just like his lover George Soros did "back in the day". His office confirmed that not only is Chuckles interested in the position, but that he'd be VERY good at it.

    THE SICK, DEPRESSING, MISERABLE

Chuck Hagel is the right Secretary of Defense at the right time in history serving the right administration for completely destroying the Pax Americana and replacing it with a New World Disorder. That the weak-on-terror, Israel-hating, unfit to head Defense Hagel was confirmed by the Senate on the 20th anniversary of the first jihadist bombing of the World Trade Center (killing 6 and wounding 1000) is a dire warning of things to come for the safety, security and defense of our nation.
