The Egyptian authorities have decided to shut down the Muslim Brotherhood for good. This isn’t the end of the game yet at this stage, but it is bad news for the Brotherhood and its Western supporters; especially Ashton and Obama.
Egypt’s State Commissioners Authority, a body that advises the government on legal issues, has recommended the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In an announcement on Monday, the Authority also called for the group’s national headquarters in Cairo’s Moqattam to be closed.
The recommendations were made in accordance with Law 84 of 2002, which prohibits non-government organisations and institutions from forming paramilitary groups.
A lot of media outlets are reporting the judicial recommendation. What they are not reporting is specifically why. And you can see why the media, which carries the Brotherhood’s water, isn’t interesting in dealing with the specific allegations.
For example the AP, in a ten paragraph story, only mentions that the shutdown happened because the Brotherhood was “operating outside the law.”
