Enforced Diversity in New York Fire Department Leads to Disastrous Results

Liberalism works as well as Communism. Not that it will stop the coming of De Blasio and the repetition of these same experiments with the same disastrous results.

Because the left never learns.

The first court-ordered class of FDNY trainees — the oldest and most diverse in history — is flaming out.

Halfway through the 18-week Fire Academy course, the dropout rate has hit a sky-high 15 percent and could climb to a third of the 318 who started on July 29, according to insiders.

So far, 48 have dropped out. They include 23 of 123 court-ordered “priority hires,” mainly blacks and Latinos in their 30s and early 40s who took the FDNY entrance exam in 1999 or 2000 but were passed over.

Four of eight women have also bailed. The eight were hailed as the most in an academy class since 1982, when a lawsuit forced the FDNY to bring on the first female firefighters.

In addition, an alarming number of “probies” have been injured — suffering sprains, fractures and other ailments — and put on medical leave, insiders say. Others teeter on the cusp of flunking out because they can’t handle the physical or academic demands.

An FDNY insider called the 15 percent attrition at the halfway point “huge, an amazing difference from a normal probie class.”

Shockingly enough, the kind of men who could climb to the top of the World Trade Center while it was burning in full gear are an elite. You can’t make them happen just because a liberal judge gives an order.

The capper to the insanity wasn’t just the diversity, it was bringing in failed examinees from 1999, 14 years ago. But Clinton judge, Nicholas Garaufis, a guy who probably hasn’t exercised since 1999, decided he knew better. So he issued an order.

But of course the real fault lies with all the racism. It’s racism that’s causing the drop outs.

Vulcan Society president John Coombs questioned the FDNY’s commitment to helping minorities succeed.

“Some of those instructors are out to break them,” Coombs said. “It’s psychological warfare.”

He said physical demands, such as running a mile and a half in 12 minutes, are too strictly enforced. “We’ve never had so many injuries at the academy,” he said. “Are they overtraining the candidates?”

“Overtraining” is the new racism. Unqualified candidates got rammed through and they turn out to be unqualified. But if they’re getting injured, it’s the fault of… racism.

So the FDNY is predictably coddling them.

The FDNY also launched a program to prevent these new probies from failing, assigning lieutenants to each mentor trainees, giving them pep talks and tips on getting through the course.

Rank-and-file members call it coddling. “Do we have to wipe their noses too?” a veteran grumbled.

    Yes you have to wipe their noses. And keep coddling them. You see it doesn’t matter if your house or business is on fire and those called out to try to save it don’t have the necessary skills. Results don’t matter to the diversity crowd even if your life or property are in danger. Don’t expect anything more from them than their constant bullying and cries of racism. You are living in a fantasy world if you actually think there should be any qualifications for any type of job.

    How horrible it is for black people of dignity and pride. I literally will avoid having a black Physician care for me if I can. Why? Because it is a fact that they have, as a rule, far lower grades and inferior training thanks to Reverse Racism. If I were a brilliant, proud, canny black physician it would drive me CRAZY. Same if I was one of the tough UNcoddled black firefighters who made the grade before some judge interfered.

      Black people always stick together as one (my wife spent several months in a hospital and rehav facility, she is asian__) I normally ask if she could get an asian nurse and told them because of language barriers even though she speaks great english. (so no one would argue race)
      But the bottom line is there are so many health professionals that are black that treat black patients totally different than others, if whites did this it would be racist. blacks ensure other blacks get the best treatment service etc while in some cases are even rude to asians. I would not always trust a black person to treat me. As a veteran I trust the blacks in the base hospitals mostly and the Veterans hospitals but I have witnessed first hard how blacks interact with non black patients as opposed to their black family. a majority blacks are a family among them selve and they base every decision they make on race,

      Regardless of race, placing unqualified persons in schools or jobs sooner or later condemns them to failure and worse. All are created equal in the eyes of God but God did not create us equal in ability and intelligence. In the military and high risk civilian occupations like the FD or law enforcement, second class or third class personnel inevitably fail and cost the lives of their comrades and innocents. Unchecked. liberals/progressives are poisoning our nation with their fantasies of “equality.”

    It’s only fitting and fair that these court ordered trainees be assigned to the stations serving the most ‘liberal’ districts. The ones who want marginal firemen should have them all to themselves.

    And they will be “prioritized” into firehalls, into officer’s uniforms and finally into lucrative desk jobs and senior positions, all in the name of “fairness.” The cost: citizens and colleagues injured because they couldn’t handle the mental and physical demands of actually fighting fires, not to mention themselves, victims of the lowered bar.

    Don’t worry the courts will just lower the standards. It happened in the military too. When they found females couldn’t pass the PT tests the leftists merely changed the standards until they found women could pass the lower standards

    True, but all of those people in the World Trade Center were One-Percenters who oppressed the poor, so why should the firefighters keep themselves in good shape just so they can risk their lives for those who make more money than they do? Also, it’s racist to have objective standards of any kind because that could expose disparities between the performance of minorities and their oppressors, and worse, expose the Left’s cynical expectations that minorities will underperform…. because they are allowed to.

    Apart from the obvious problem of forced hiring of blacks and latinos, which is so wrong that it makes me sick, why would they hire 40 year old men? If you’re going to hire people for this job, you need younger people than that. Idiot liberals, can’t get anything right at all.

      You wouldn’t want to engage in age discrimination, would you? Just because us guys in our 50′s with aging knees are likely to have trouble carrying fire victims out of their windows and down ladders is no reason not to hire us. What’s more important – our right to a job or the citizen’s expectation that the Fire Dept. will save his life in an emergency? The quota of over-50 firemen should match our proportion in society, in the name of diversity.

      Pass the Test or Fail the Test.

      No Curves. No adjustments based on race.

      Give EVERYBODY training, then test them.

      Fire doesn’t care what race a person is.

    The “accommodations” which allow unqualified candidates entry into a field tasked with saving lives by means of sound judgment and physical strength will result in many uncaring, racist people losing their lives, who will die out if their sheer insensitive disregard for diversity.

    Isn’t NYC one of the cities that has less than 10 days of cash on hand?

    As with Detroit and Stockton CA, and other liberal ratholes, it takes 1 hour for the fire dept to GET to a burning building.
    Doesn’t take as much physical exertion to hold the hose on the smoldering embers of an already demolished building.
