Flashback: Obama Promised Libyan War Would Only Take Days

obama poster

The media leaks are now saying that Obama is only contemplating a 2 day attack in Libya. Maybe. More likely not.

Obama has lied about that kind of thing before. He did it in Libya.

Obama told a bipartisan group of members of Congress today that he expects the U.S. would be actively involved in any military action against Libya for “days, not weeks,” after which he said the U.S. would take more of a supporting role, sources tell ABC News.

“We are not going to use force to go beyond a well-defined goal, specifically the protection of civilians in Libya,” he said.

In fact the war took a lot longer than a few days and its goal was regime change, not protecting civilians, and the attacks continued until the Islamist rebels won… leading to the eventual attack on the US mission in Benghazi.

As a known liar, there is no reason to take Obama’s word for this. He has every interest in minimizing the illegal war that he is trying to drag America into.

A couple of weeks? That was about how long the American Civil War was supposed to take, too.

    • Barack Zero

Why don’t you provide us with some of your *quotes* from, oh, Abraham LIncoln or a similar authoritative source on “how long the American Civil War was supposed to take.”

How long was the American civil war expected to last?

        Answer:
At the beginning, both sides expected it to be a short, glorious bloodless war – a pushover.

Only two notable people forecast a long war. One was the Union General-in-Chief, Winfield Scott, whose plan for slow strangulation of the Confederacy was laughed-off as the Anaconda Plan.

The other was the then-unknown William T. Sherman, who was stationed in Louisiana and had made many friends in the South. To these friends, he wrote letters that predicted the course of the war, including some early Confederate wins, but ending with total Southern exhaustion and starvation.

One hundred Mercedes and yachts owned by Assad’s supporters will be bombed, it will be a billion dollar punishment for those that gassed civilians and their livestock.

And then the American hating terrorists in the rebel forces will take over the country. Some improvement.

    War is a necessary evil.

    • objectivefactsmatter

That doesn’t make every war necessary.

If the objectives truly were about containing it, I’d be fine. But that’s not what happened in Libya, and gee, we have the same players now attacking Assad.

This is just more MB policy influence.

    • brad mayeux

      NO, its NOT.
War is a failure of leadership.
Its what one does when one fails at a political resolution, and is too idealistic, or greedy to just take the failure.

In this case war is already happening, Pres obama is not starting a war… i still dont agree with going in, unless, if it were a coalition, and just to stop/eradicate the chem weapons

When Obama’s rockets kill additional women and children will the hawks just call it collateral damage?
Assad has no alternative but to fight to the end;the Sunni rebels have no alternative but to fight till the end. He who stops first dies first.
What is the next step,”Boots on the Ground” ?

Barack Obama II, had no legal authority whatsoever to involve United States military assets under the guise of NATO in the Libyan Arab Spring conflict. IMO, All the way around and among other things, the Libya conflict and Benghazi were blatant, impeachable offences.

  • Gee

Odumba is one bloodthirsty coward. Never had the guts to wear a uniform and protect people. Instead he was a “Community Organizer” (fraud and thief).

But he has started more wars without Congressional approval than any other president in history. First Pakistan, then Yemen, then Libya and now Syria.

Impeached – hung would be a better solution

    • brad mayeux

yeah, those Pak/Yemen “wars” were a bitch. – Much worse then Iraq AND Afghanistan!… 1/2million innocents DIED in GWB wars, not to mention US and english, french etc…
