For a Jailed Filmmaker, Clinton’s Benghazi Lies Make a Difference

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived back in the Senate, after dodging a few falling safes, multiple banana peels and an ornery dog named Henry, to give a carefully prepared histrionic rant which can be summed up, “I do care a lot” and “None of this was my fault” and “What difference at this point does it make?”

The last isn’t a sarcastic restatement. It’s what she actually said.

It might make a difference to a Coptic Christian whose trailer for a bad movie was blamed by the leader of the free world for a series of Al Qaeda attacks against American diplomatic facilities and who was sent to prison on the orders of members of the administration.

That filmmaker is the only one to actually get locked up. The ringleader of the attack walks the streets of Benghazi freely. A drone could make short work of him, but no drones are coming his way. Instead a car bomb, planted by Libyan enemies nearly took him out. Some of the other Benghazi attackers were killed by the Algerian military during the siege; doing the work that Obama won’t do. If the Benghazi terrorists finally die, it will most likely be at the hands of the French, the Syrian army or Libyan rival militias.

Benghazi, Obama said, during his appearance with Jon Stewart, the man of many grimaces, was a bump in the road. And that’s all it was. The Obama campaign bus drove over four bodies and reached its destination in an armored parking garage somewhere in D.C. An irritated Hillary Clinton, who is prepping for her own bus tour in 2016, demands to know what difference it makes now to discuss who lied about what and who failed to secure the Benghazi mission.

The election is over, and her testimony was delayed until after the fat lady held up her talking points at the debate and sang. Al Qaeda is dead, except for the parts of it rampaging across Syria, Iraq, Mali, Libya, Algeria and Pakistan, and a decade of war is coming to an end or just beginning. It makes no difference now which one of those it really is, just as it makes no difference, whether, as Clinton said, it happened “because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night decided to go kill some Americans?”

Over in Cairo, leading senators visited Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood President, Mohammed Morsi and tried to explain to him that ranting about Jews being the bloodthirsty spawn of apes and pigs who must be driven out of the Middle East is “inappropriate” if he expects to be considered a force for stability in the region. In response, Morsi told the senators that he respects all religions and that the only reason the New York Times belatedly mentioned the story a month later is because the apes and pigs control the media.

Afterward Obama sent him a bunch of tanks and jets, because really what difference does it make?

Morsi knows that he can say whatever he pleases and still get the F-16s and Abrams tanks and the billions of dollars in aid, and so it makes no difference at all what he says.

Sure at some point in the near or distant future, Morsi might use those weapons to, “free the land from the filth of the Jews”. And then the Christians. And when that happens, someone will sit down in front of a Senate panel and explain that they really do care a lot, that it wasn’t their fault and that assigning blame makes no difference at this point.

And then there’s nothing left, but to ask what difference would it make if she had secured the Benghazi mission, if Obama had dispatched timely rescue forces or if we had stayed the hell out of Libya. If would have made a large difference to the dead, but not a whole lot to Hillary 2016.

France is fighting in Mali now and it’s getting about as much support from Washington, as the dead of Benghazi did. The drones aren’t flying here either and neither is much of anything else. Obama’s people have said that they support the French operation but that they’re still waiting to get a “clear picture” of the mission, the enemy and how much this will offend the Morsis of the Muslim world.

The quest for a clear picture was also the pitch made by Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and Barack Obama whenever they were asked about the Great YouTube Trailer Terrorist Attacks of 2012. The picture never got any clearer, but as they would say, “What difference does it make?”

This really isn’t about Benghazi, which could have been secured for a fraction of the $16 million that her State Department spent on overpriced Kindle book readers and the $4.5 million it spent on art in embassies. You could have dropped the cost for fully protecting the Benghazi mission into the billion that State spent on global warming. Or the dough that Howard Gutman, campaign contributor and Ambassador to Belgium who shares some of Morsi’s views, spent renovating his embassy into a shining example of Green Sustainableness could have instead been spent on fortifying the Benghazi mission.

This isn’t even about Hillary 2016. It’s about the Middle East where bad policies make a world of difference. And it’s about a political establishment that rewards the Hillary Clintons for the disasters they make while punishing the Michele Bachmanns for the truth that they tell, because it is unable to come to terms with its own mistakes.

Carter gave us the Mullah-ridden Iran and began pouring money into the Pakistani terror machine of the ISI. Obama gave us a North Africa that is beginning to look like Iran and has shoved handfuls of cash, weapons and support at any Islamist whose views and affiliations stop just short of Al Qaeda, even if he happens to be Al Qaeda’s best friend.

But what difference does it make when few Republican senators can discuss what the Brotherhood really stands for and its impact on the Middle East and the West? Crimes don’t make a difference unless there are people who can expose them for what they are. Democrats have criminalized many ordinary things, such as buying cough syrup without a photo ID or making a movie that offends Muslims, but they have decriminalized other things, such as funding and arming terrorists and endangering the survival of the free world.

Reversing this process and reversing Hillary 2016 requires men and women who can show why what happened in Benghazi, in Cairo and across the region makes a difference. It will make a difference when there are enough people who realize that in the last four years, these policies have paved the way for replacing the war of drones and hijackers with a global war on the scale of the first two.

Then the difference that Hillary dismissed and that her colleagues in Obama Inc. have held at bay for another four years will finally be made.

This man is a political prisoner. In imprisoning him (and not to mention it’s unequivocal support of Pakistani terrorists and its culpability in providing that country with nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction (primarily to kill Indians)), US has lost all its legitimacy as a liberal and free democracy. Under Democrats, US has joined the fascist group of countries like China, Iran and North Korea. Personally, I feel you lot deserve Islam and all its fruits.

    • WildJew

I agree with much of what you've written but why does India side with the Palestinian Muslim jihad against Israel – India votes with the Muslim block in the United Nations – given the centuries of wars Islam has waged against India until this day?

      • Jay

Because from independence communists and socialist have been a key force in India especially in education and secularism of the main party Congress is really anti-Hindu bigotry. Congress typically favors Muslims as a voting block whom they like to keep happy. Yes India and Hindus have been attacked but India is a place where Hindus and Hinduism are still demonized and politically attacked. And with Islamic terrorism it is physically attacked. Secularism in India is nick named sickularism becaus their is nothing genuinely secular about it as it is instead anti-Hindu and Islamophillic. And any Hindu who speaks up about this unfairness is labeled a fundamentalist and dismissed.

I think “SANDY HOOK” attack was a plan designed by Obama Administration so that people forget “BENGHAZI-GATE SCANDAL” because:

1-The attack itself as a disaster can make people’s mind busy, just take a look at the time of attacks, Sandy hook when senators were calling Hillary Clinton to testify and another attack just ONE day before Jan 23 testimony

2-Obama wants to pay attention to gun-control and every day talk about that in public so people forget to talk and think about Benghazigate Scandal

3-Killing childrens is not so much hard for somebody who ordered to “STAND DOWN and let them die”

4-The administration has the ability to stimulate a sick boy to attack childrens by its agents indirectly.

          Let others know

          • Mia K.

"to stimulate a sick boy to attack childrens" . . yeah, definitely listen to this person . . .

India is not arming Palestinian jihadis. US is not only arming, but is bankrolling the entire Pakistani terror network and its myriad sub-cells – all primed to kill Indians. In other words, US is helping Pakistan to kill Indians. The two scenarios that you put forward do not bear any similarities. And if truth be told, our own politicians are in the pockets of their momedian voters and hence will jump at any opportunity to garnish their favour.

We Indians have all the respect in the world for people of Israel. If momedians hate Jews they loathe us Indians, our ancient civilisation even more, as evidenced by multiple genocides perpetrated by successful Muslim invaders and Moguls. Having said that, you will be surprised how many Indians actually admire Israel and its chutzpah in dealing with her enemies. If we Indians only has 50% of Israelis’ sense of self preservation, we wouldn’t have allowed US to help Pakistan acquire the nuclear bomb nor would we have allowed US to kill Indians as it has been doing.

        Peace, and long live Israel!

        • WildJew

I agree with you, the United States as a world power deserves the lion's share of the responsibility or blame. That the United States helped Pakistan acquire nuclear capability is not widely known or reported here. I just did a quick search at Amazon and am about to order a book on this very topic. Thanks for the heads-up. Helping Islamic regimes become nuclear powers will come back to bite America one day.

          • Anonymous

I thought it was common knowledge that it was Canada's selling "CANDU" nuclear reactors (as in, so the joke went "can do nukes"), first to India, then to Pakistan. Look up the article "Exporting disaster– the cost of selling CANDU reactors."

          • Anonymous

Far more culpable was China's involvement in assisting Pakistan in obtaining nuclear capability. Also it was Khan (the Pakistani) who stole documents from a Belgium firm (a firm he was working for — it was not due to his "brilliance" but his theft of info from Belgium.) (I do not believe the United States should be blamed for this — yes, the U.S. makes all kinds of idiotic mistakes, but complicity in arming Pakistan with nukes (IMO) is not one of them.

The U.S. is NOT, nor ever has been, a Democracy! We are a Constitutional Republic. Live it, learn it, know it.

all of us infidels are in this together, randhir, and regardless of the stupidity of the ruling elite in the usa, as well as other countries that have head in sand populations willing to allow their traitorous governments to sell them into islamic slavery, it will not do the hindu any good at all for "you lot" to get the islam that some of us deserve. let me observe that india, of all nations, knows the yoke of islamic slavery, and is acquainted with genocide at the bloody hands of islam. so why does india, which should know better, allow any muslims to live in india? get rid of your own poisonous muslims, and your opinion that dhimmis like the american public deserve islam would be more valid. the fact is that the american public does not deserve islam. our media, our educational elite, our government officials, the democratic, and some of the republican party hierarchy……….. yes, they deserve islam. i hope they dont get what they deserve.

These are very naive Senators, especially McCain who has supported Obama's Muslim Brotherhood outreach, as well as his misguided policies in the region. It would be akin to U.S. Senators visiting the Third Reich, expressing "strong disapproval" of anti-Semitic writings from Mein Kampf written by Germany's chancellor. McCain is the man who took to the Senate floor to publicly condemn Michele Bachmann for her political courage.

CNN: "In our meeting with President Morsy, we voiced our strong disapproval of statements he made a few years ago that have recently surfaced," Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said in a written statement. "We had a constructive discussion on this subject. We leave it to the president to make any further comments on this matter that he may wish."

The congressional trip also included Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina; Sheldon Whitehouse, D-Rhode Island; Kelly Ayotte, R-New Hampshire; Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York; Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut; and Chris Coons, D-Delaware. The group met with leadership, business and other Egyptian groups.

    • I am John Galt

McCain is a big RHINO problem. He supports the change in Senate filibuster rules. He would be one of the four new super powerful Senators if this passes. Maybe he should just switch to the Democrat party.

Call his office and your own Senators about this issue.

    • annieoakley

All of these people from congress (see above list) McCain included are a waste of space on this planet.

Clinton's "anger" was carefully planned. Her body language said it all – she displayed contempt for the committee and for the American people. She lied as she always has and now she will run for president of this country. No consequences for her inaction, just like all the rest of the administration thugs who have been caught at their crimes.

She is a LAWYER. I guess we didn't learn anything from her husband.

      • objectivefactsmatter

"She is a LAWYER. I guess we didn't learn anything from her husband."

Tactically she's infinitely better than her husband. Some of the strategy might have come from him though. She's either a great puppet, or the brains of the little operation they have been running for decades now.

"Clinton's "anger" was carefully planned. Her body language said it all – she displayed contempt for the committee and for the American people. She lied as she always has…"

She knows how to pose as a victim. Most lawyers learn that before finishing college. You know they have special workshops on how to testify as a victim in court? There are psychologists and sociologists with full time consulting work teaching these tactics. They are almost always hired by lawyers and few others have any need for their work. If you think a politician would not use these resources any time they feel the need…

"…and now she will run for president of this country. No consequences for her inaction, just like all the rest of the administration thugs who have been caught at their crimes."

      Probably correct.

Congress critters that hold hearings have their priorities azz-backwards.

The guy that they first claimed to have been the cause and affect of the Libyan ruckus remains jailed and will never see the light of day. Meanwhile, faux-blood-clotted-brain-dead Hitlery Klintoon spins, and easily performs for cameras with the help of GPS, her way past and through pre mapped congressional mine fields. Typical go nowhere Washington crapola…and everyone will live happily ever after. /Sarkmark.

The Obama administration adopts an attitude of abject indifference whenever the topic lights upon America's enemies (the Benghazi killers, the Muslim Brotherhood, islamists, etc) — but they become highly agitated and outraged and hysterical at the mere thought of a Michele Bachmann. Then they suddenly discover "the enemy" (who is to be silenced), and that just happens to be patriotic Americans.

  • Looking4Sanity

Will it make a difference in Hillary's 2016 Presidential run? I certainly hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Marty

Obviously, this adminsitration doesn't know or care about the United States Constitution. Instead, it imprisons citizens for expressing their individual rights. No wonder, it wants to "engage" iran: there is so much in common. After all, both the administration and the current socipathic tyranny in tehran are viciously anti-semitic, relentlessly work for the annhilation of Israel, can find nothing wrong with islamic calls for genocide, enslavement, and the destruction of wester civilization.

The Obozo administration needs to join actforamerica.com, islamreview.com, creeping sharia.com or answering-islam.com, to learn the truth about Islam.
These websites should be required reading for students instead of the whitewashed version
(Mohamed is a saint) they are required to learn in school. Not to mention a statement students are offered to sign after taking the studies course indicating "do you now believe Islam is a peaceful religion." My intelligent grandson refused to sign the statement.

What difference does it make? She has the gall to ask. And of course, with a country that for the second time elected that self aggrandizing dolt, it makes no difference. The ruling party is strong with its billionaire donors, its Hollywood lackeys, and its powerful media which dumbs down whatever portion of its citizenry the television shows didn't reach. It would be interesting to juxtapose the Watergate affair, which toppled a president, with the Benghazi affair, which didn't make a scratch on Obama. Who is the teflon president?

When will America awake to the fact that Hilliary Clinton is the most accomplished liar to grace Washington. From the get go the Rose Law firm, the missing documents, surprise surprise how did classified documents end up at her house. The list is never ending. Questioned in a Senate hearing we had a bunch of fawning Senators, brown tongued from arse licking.Senator McCain fired some questions, same with Rand Paul and the guy from Wyoming, but the rest were a spineless gang of idiots. How come no one asked where were you when the battle at Benghazi was going on,same question to O'Bummer and military staff. Where is the question(s), no one has the guts to ask.
Its simple a) Where were you b) who was with you,c)when did you earn. Follow uo question is simple " What did you do

She got a way with lying, but she never really got a way with lying. The main thing is, or will be, if she runs in 2016, will the American People remember how she sold them down the road, and gave Barack Obama a free ride from impeachment proceedings by protecting his a$$, and that is what she really did.. Now I wonder if the administrator will delete my comment, he has in the past.

A cover up for the sake of an election? Integrity? I could go on, but I think the point is clear enough.

think about it. if not for the media swoon over the idea of having an AFRICAN president we would be in the second hillary administration now. not only would we have the evil of 8 years of that harridan, but then we would still have to pay our dues, and endure an AFRICAN presidency. the only way out of the mess we are in is for our government to go so totally bankrupt that noone will lend it anything. it will be sooner than they think.

Those two guys on the top of the CIA hideout cornered by the bad guys like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, I think it might have made some difference to them. No credit to anybody in that hearing room that they let her get away with that. It's too bad our ambassador got killed, but I think the heartbreaker of the Benghazi firefight was that the two guys left who thought, or, more likely, hoped that help was on the way were…what, just discarded. Did anybody ask about them? Why was the cavalry not sent in? Hillary took a lax attitude to her duties before the roof fell in, but once it did, why weren't reinforcements sent? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? They depended on you and you let them down!! Have you no sense of decency?

In my opinion, this filmmaker would be justified in suing the Obama administration for what happened to him.

  • The Thwart

I agree that Obama, Clinton, Kerry, et al, have brought us the worst foreign policy team in history. But, I used to like this rag, and Greenfield's writing. Now it has become another haunt for uneducated conspiracy theorists. Youssef was jailed for violating his probation… period.

    • Tom

Yeah right Thwart, The crime he was on parole for was compter aided fraud, not film making. He has also seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth. We see and hear a lot more from other criminals who have done much more harm. You know, like murderers, mass murderers, baby killers, and the like. I bet he could have made an equally lousy movie denegrating the Pope, Roman Catholics in general, Jews, or some other Christian religion and nothing would have come of it.

  • http://twitter.com/salubrius @salubrius

This guy is no sweetpea. He made a lousy film that he knew would arouse the Islamists. I don't blame him for arousing the Islamists. I blame him for making a lousy film and then blaming it on the Jews. He claimed he was an Israeli Jew and the film was financed by 100 American Jews. No Jewish producer would ever admit to making a film that terrible. He was a Copt, doing it to get the Muslims mad at the Jews so they would take their mind off the Egyptian Copts for a while.. But none of the Copts was around in Benghazi so they turned on the Americans that they hate as much as the Jews or perhaps even more.
The Protocols of the Elders of Islam, according to the Project document discovered by the Swiss in a Villa not long after 9/11 and the document found in Herndon, VA that showed its intention to subvert the US from within, show that the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoots are committed to world domination and had prepared plans to carry out that intention by any means they could, including stealth. History shows that the Jews and the Americans are their only effective barriers to that world domination. Londonistan is almost taken over now. France had to get help to transport its military force to Mali. In Malmo the Muslims have taken over. In the Netherlands, Geert Wilders is making a good effort but it remains to be seen whether he will be successful. He takes an armed guard around with him whereever he goes.
