Genocidal Muslim Sudan Elected VP of Top UN Human Rights Body

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

The bad news is that you can be wanted for genocide and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court and your flunky can still receive a top human rights position at the United Nations.

The good news? This is the UN. There is no good news.

Mia Farrow, the film star and human rights activist, today condemned the U.N.’s election of Sudan as vice-president of its 54-member Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a top U.N. body that regulates human rights groups, shapes the composition of key U.N. women’s rights bodies, and adopts resolutions on subjects ranging from Internet freedom to female genital mutilation.

“This is an outrage,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “On the same day we hear that Sudan is killing babies and burning homes in Darfur — precisely the kind of dire situation ECOSOC should be urgently addressing — the U.N. has now made vital human rights protection less likely than ever.”

“It’s inexplicable that 176 of 193 U.N. member states voted to support the blood-soaked regime of Omar Al-Bashir, failing to recognize that electing genocidal Sudan to a global human rights body is like choosing Jack the Ripper to guard a women’s shelter,” said Neuer.

“Sudanese president Al Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity and genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan,” said Farrow. “President Al Bashir and his regime are orchestrating a campaign of ethnic cleansing in Sudan’s border regions, the Nuba Mountains and the Blue Nile, where some 700,000 civilians face starvation and are denied access to humanitarian aid because of incessant aerial bombardments.”

Fear not. Obama is right on this. Not.

The Obama Administration has been surprsingly silent on today’s vote.  By contrast, in 2004, the U.S. ambassador famously walked out of ECOSOC after Sudan was elected.

The Obama Administration promised that when a country is under Security Council sanction for massive human-rights abuses, “it should be barred, plain and simple, from leadership roles like chairmanships in U.N. bodies. Abusers of international law or norms should not be the public face of the U.N.”

Yet even though Sudan’s president al-Bashir was indicted by the International Criminal Court for genocide, war crimes and and crimes against humanity — by virtue of a Security Council referral — the U.S. voice has been silent, as has that of the European Union.

Al Bashir’s regime will now help select the members of the Commission on the Status of Women, the executive board of UN Women, and UNICEF, which protects children’s rights.

Maybe next Halloween Bashir can send the Janjaweed collecting for UNICEF. They’re already monsters so they wouldn’t even have to wear masks.

Another of the Muslim VP’s of ECOSOC? Pakistan. Yes, that Pakistan.

The only thing the UN ever got right, was being in New York, otherwise, they suck big time.
I'd bet for the sake of Islam, closet Muslim B.H. Obama II will be funding Sudan.

Who even does the appointing for this? It's like cronyism to the extreme.

Defund UN and confiscate the properties. Maybe Hussein Obama is doing it from behind?

"Defund UN and confiscate the properties."

The UN is more than a cesspool, this is a fact – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/12/19/the-un-thug-o

and the embedded video tells just some of the tale.

As to North Sudan, where does this blogger begin, but with a policy paper (requested by Dr. Martin Sherman, founder of the Israel Institute for Strategic Studies – http://www.martinsherman.net/ ) which duly exposes their genocide – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/08/14/fungible-defi

    Clear as a bell.

Nothing surprises me at the UN. Nothing. If they tabled a resolution saying that white people had to be exterminated, I’d expect full support, especially from Europe. Go figure.

I’m acquainted with two people at the UN, via my sister. The Marxist/multi-culti rubbish that comes out of their mouths has to be heard to be believed. It has staggered me on occasions.

Yes I’ve met some too and had the same experience – deep hatred for the USA while making non taxed salaries and enjoying life here.

If we are leaving it to Mia Farrow of all people to be the voice of reason then we are in even bigger trouble than anybody imagined:

"I'm especially fond of when they close down the bomb factories."
I laugh when their bombs prematurely explode, in their faces.
