Gun Generation: 60% of Students Considering Using their 2nd Amendment Rights

Nothing stirs up interest in a right like the threat of having it taken away from you. If the left had really wanted to get rid of gun ownership, they could have kept up a culture war and counted on the number of households owning guns to continue diminishing for cultural and economic reasons.

Instead the left threatens to crack down on the 2nd Amendment and large numbers of people begin buying firearms.

Now a new study shows that we may be witnessing the rise of a Gun Generation with 40 percent of high school and college students planning to own a firearm and another 20 percent seriously considering it.

This is significant because we’ve been seeing a decline in the percentage of households that own guns. In the 1960s and 70s, over half of American households owned guns. By the 1990s those numbers fell under 50 percent (though some of that may have been polling paranoia over a Clinton Administration crackdown) and by the 2000s, it was in the 30s.  And then the numbers turned around.

Gun ownership numbers have been rising sharply since, reversing two decades of declines. And if the next generation is any measure, we may well be seeing a return to 1970s numbers. Or at least 1980s numbers.

The next generation, growing up under the shadow of a restrictive Democrat-run nanny state appear to be on track to becoming a Gun Generation.

I bet there are more people using guns to hunt now too, due to the recession and skyrocketing food prices, at least poor people.

I've a good friend who is a health professional. A great many of her patients are subsistence hunters. She did comment that over the past few years, more of them have taken to it.

In Canada, we have been seeing an upsurge in gun ownership as well.

Good to hear. If the madness in the US government doesn't stop, Alberta is looking better and better.

In Norway there has been an upsurge in attendance at gun training courses by Islamic radicals. After attending they are permitted to own up to six hunting rifles. They are not interested in hunting. 13 Oct 2012

Further reason for widespread gun training and ownership. That is the whole point of the militia. Rest assured, that if and when the time comes, that your aforementioned radicals try something, those small collections will be passed around to their fellows, permits or no.
