Hagel: Israel is an “Apartheid State”, Must Negotiate with Hamas

Again these are based on notes from an attendee at a Hagel speech, but the ideas are not really out of line with his known views.

Hagel did insist on “engaging” with Hamas. The Apartheid State argument has become routine on the left and has even crept into mainstream rhetoric. Public figures tend to refrain from using that specific word, but Hagel had advanced those types of arguments and it is not hard to believe that he would have slipped into that kind of rhetoric as well.

Secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel said Israel is on its way to becoming an apartheid state during an April 9, 2010, appearance at Rutgers University, according to a contemporaneous account by an attendee.

Hagel also accused Israel of violating U.N. resolutions and called for U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hamas to be included in any peace negotiations.

“I am sitting in a lecture by Chuck Hagel at Rutgers,” Wagner wrote in the email. “He basically said that Israel has violated every UN resolution since 1967, that Israel has violated its agreements with the quartet, that it was risking becoming an apartheid state if it didn’t allow the Palestinians to form a state. He said that the settlements were getting close to the point where a contiguous Palestinian state would be impossible.”

Wagner said the remarks were made during the Q&A session. The speech took place at the Rutgers School of Law in Newark.

Rutgers does have a sizable anti-Israel and Islamist contingent and Hagel has a history of playing to the crowd at these events.

So I guess Hagel, too, doesn't know what "apartheid" actually means.

    • Daniel Greenfield

Based on the hearings, I'm not sure Hagel knows the meaning of any words.

      • Gee

He was a 'D' student in college and it shows

      • Ibsy

why? is it because he is criticising Israel?

  • Ar'nun

"that it was risking becoming an apartheid state if it didn’t allow the Palestinians to form a state."

I didn't realize that the South African Apartheid was finally solved by creating a seperate state inside South Africa including half of it's capital.

    • Gee

I am wondering about this contiguous requirement arises. The US is not, nor UK, Greece, Spain, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland or nearly every other democracy in the world.

When did contiguous be a requirement for statehood?

      • Daniel Greenfield

Especially since that a 'state' whose territory is on two sides of Israel cannot be contiguous without cutting Israel in half

Hagel is a "useful idiot", as Lenin called naïve people

    • http://www.adinakutnicki.com AdinaK

Hagel is far from a useful idiot. He has visceral animus towards Jews and their Jewish homeland. Moreover, he is anti-American and that should be a clarion call to all Americans – http://adinakutnicki.com/2013/02/11/john-brennan-… ….enough evidence within to scuttle Brennan and Hagel, if a patriot was at the helm!

"He said that the settlements were getting close to the point where a contiguous Palestinian state would be impossible."

LMAO…Effing Dhimmi, one would have to wonder if Hagel thought the turnip truck was being driven by an Israeli.

Israel has violated every UN resolution since 1967.

Israel has violated its agreements with the quartet.

It is risking becoming an apartheid state if it doesn't allow the Palestinians to form a state.

The settlements are getting close to the point where a contiguous Palestinian state is impossible.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. No less true now than it was in 2010. One might cavil and point out that Israel was violating its UN obligations long before 1967.

A day after the admission of Israel to the United Nations on May 11, 1949, the Israeli representative to the UN signed a protocol with the UNCCP, which accepts Resolution 194 (III) regarding the Palestinian refugees, including “the respect for their rights and preservation of their property….”

    That sure went far!!

      Get a clue…you are wrong. Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub2x5UvjUs4

Chuck Hagel is a useful idiot at best and a treacherous traitor to the USA and the Constitution as are all of the Regime of the 0bamunists. He is another backstabber to truth and spreads propaganda because he does not know history or ethics.

Israel is at risk of being an apartheid state if her leaders believe in the ability of multiple nations to coexist peacefully under a single nation-state while they maintain Israel has to remain the Jewish State. The only way for Israel to avoid both capitulation to Arab imperialism and the scenario of apartheid is by expelling all the Arabs (colonists stealing Jewish land) out of the entire Land of Israel.

Sudetenland 1945—a lesson for our time. The Phakestinian Sudeten-Arabs must be booted out.

Arabs already have a State, its name is Jordan

Start from the beginning, when assorted Arabs Armies attacked Israel in violation of the UN Parition Plan

Arabs started all of the wars from 1948 to-date, also violating the Rhodes Peace Agreenment of 1949 in the process

There are NO Palestinian Refugess, since there never was an Arab Palestine, as attested to by Fahti Hammad of Hamas (his video is on Youtube
Read & listen, your dumbness is so profound

You have the misconception that Israel
      "Grabbed"" the land of others.
The fact is that the Palestinian's are a 'RECENT INVENTION, as attested to by Fahti Hammad of Hamas, who has many Video’s on the subject.
GOOGLE FAHTI HAMMAD, you have a lot to learn

Israel can handle her own defence, however, the stabbing in the back by America must be disappointing. I studied the historical persecution of Jews and it is truly a miracle that they even exist today. Israelis are the most ancient group of people alive today, living in their own land. If they were any other people, all the " human rights" orgs, U.N. etc.,would be tripping over themselves trying to help them. But no, Israel gets demonized by most of the world which tells us a lot how evil this world is. The demons now also run the U.S.government

I blame the jews. Yes, that's right. Obama received 80 percent of the american jewish vote. They are getting what they deserve from him now; and, you know what, they don't even care. Had 80 percent of american jews taken an aggressive, principled stand against Obama's candidacy, maybe he would have lost in 2008. But nooooooooooooo, the jews are his biggest supporters and contributors. But for the righteous gentiles in America, things would be far worse for Israel.

I blame humans with stupid ideas in their heads that voted for him. That's who really sucks.
