Now that Russia has sent in a naval force of a dozen ships, sent supersonic anti ship cruise missiles there and asserted they can, have, and will continue to blanket the area with state of the art anti aircraft systems there is nothing anyone can do even if they wanted to. Obama dawdled hoping for someone else to make his decisions for him and they did. It shouldn't shock anyone if we shortly see Russian Marines coming ashore, or perhaps simply running cover for Iran to land IRGC troops. Iran was getting stretched too thin with Hezbollah who proved to be not much of a match for anyone w/o their 40,000 missiles aimed at the Jews and seemingly w/o the hundreds or thousands of anti armor missiles they used against the IDF in Lebanon. When they have to fight someone as savage and sub human as they are, they lose badly. And so Iran needed to create a space to maneuver larger deployments into place. With Russia's help they got it. As of today the casualty estimates in Syria are anywhere from 90-120,000. The problem for the rest of us is not that that number will quickly double or triple, but that this will end the war that much sooner leaving Assad in power as a bona fide unapologetic Russian and Iranian client state. Syria has now become the biggest strategic threat to Israel. Bigger than Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas and Egypt.

"Oddly enough Obama's intransigence is backed by ME expert and no Obama fan, Daniel Pipes. "

It's not that he's doing the wrong thing in this case, it's his poor leadership. "Red line?" What is that all about?

It would be trivial if it was an isolated goof. It's not isolated. He's a pure politician with a radical agenda. His agenda in Syria is to do what the Sunni's want without overplaying his hand. We are already intervening, he just can't do it more openly. And then there are his statements used to cover his actual policy decisions.

We probably do want to stay out of Syria until the last moment and then maybe rescue a weakened Assad. That won't happen. If anything, our support for the Sunni caliphate will become more open.

Loyal Americans want the Sunni and Shia factions fighting each other until they are neutralized. We want them all to grow weaker fighting towards a stalemate.

The failure is putting the balance of power in the hands of Islamists radicals and terrorist that go up against Israel and other western concerns, every step of the way. The middle East thanks to BO is now a tender box with a fuse. If you were in Israels situation, when would you strike, now or later?
Thanks to state toppling ordered by BO and Hillary and carried out by covert operations and other means, we now have a Middle East on fire. This does not make Israel or the world any safer. Yes, a failed foreign policy, to put it mildly, at the feet of BO and Hillary. Nuff said.

The only "cowardice" in that scenario is that of the Arab League's. They (and Israel) are the ones who have a primary compelling interest in ensuring that Syria doesnt' become a failed state, not the US or the EU.

Your point about oil being the only reason nations intervene in humanitarian calamities is cynical foolishness. The US missions to Somalia under Bush I, and the Bosnia under Clinton, had nothing to do with oil, as just two examples.

"...I'm sure I will get bashed for this, but I feel I must say this. Obama is a criminal, who should be arrested and charged with high treason."

Bashed?! You'll get a prize for idiotic rhetoric like that on this right wing hate site.

"What I have to say is this: Maybe the Yanks haven't gone into Syria because maybe, just maybe, someone somewhere decided that since the Syrians have harboured terrorists for decades that, well, the Syrians deserve this."

No, the US hasn't "gone into Syria" i.e., commit to another massive land war in the Arab world, because there is no compelling American interest in doing so. Maybe, just maybe, the US has figured out that acting as the world's policeman is the way to destroy America. Finally!

There are plenty of Arab nations, and Israelis, which have a much more compelling interest in ensuring their neighborhood doesnt' go up in flames. I wish them the best in mauling the monster in their midst.

Which is why I copied and pasted it.

This was what I based my previous stance on

'Daniel Pipes is widely regarded as an invaluable asset when it comes to the need to understand Islam; he’s been at it for years. In fact, if any non-Muslim were to understand the religion that is also a political movement, Pipes should'.

However this has changed my mind...

'However, as Andrew Bostom points out in his latest article, it appears that Pipes may have moderated his views a bit, as evidenced by a Pipes piece in which he goes after Geert Wilders, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Wafa Sultan for… identifying Islam – and not “Islamism” as the source of modern problems'.

I have Wilders, Marked for Death and Hirsi Ali's Infidel, both important in their depiction of Islam and even more importantly, exposing the lengths the Dutch Government would go to in suppressing free speech.

Interesting also that our useless and proven expenses cheat Jacquie Smith, whilst Home Secretary would ban Wilders yet her previous HS allowed the hate speaking anti-semite Qaradawi in.

He actually shared a podium with far left London mayor, Ken Livingstone which shows how unhinged these people really are.
