So, we get cut-rate medical attention, and we take a number and stand in line and get to have our feet or privates examined with a dozen other people in the room with whom we can share our sex lives and old wives' tales and home remedies. Don't ask for a private room if you need to be laid up in hospital for a while, private rooms will have gone the way of horse stables. This is all called progress under socialized medicine. Sort of reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when Seinfeld accosts an old lady for the bakery's last loaf of marble rye.

"In Doctor land more patients equals more copays which equals more instant cash on hand. The common sense solution to the impact of an oversized patient pool would be to stop accepting new patients."

The only sensible way to help patients is to regulate disclosure about effectiveness and safety. That only threatens frauds and poor performers.

Success in life is driven by access, incentives and motivation. Collectivism is about spreading failure around to make sure everyone feels the pain.

"Truly there is a place for medicine men but I would guess half of all illness is self induced by bad habits

This is yet another reason why social medicine is the worst idea of all. It removes a lot of incentives for people to take responsibility. Unless of course it makes you give up any chance of outside medical help but then you've still got to pay anyway?

It just sucks.

There are enough incompetent and greedy people in medicine to kill off large numbers
of people yearly and thus reduce the health problem. Insurance should be something
you get to help keep you well and not impoverished..................................William

In Doctor land more patients equals more copays which equals more instant cash on hand. The common sense solution to the impact of an oversized patient pool would be to stop accepting new patients. Doctors are not hurting for money, so what do they care if their private practice isn't serving new people? They tried about ten years ago here in the land of Romneycare to switch to what was nicknamed the "conveyorbelt" system where you are ushered you in and out as quick as possible so they could see more patients. People didn't like it so now they will try this. Who can blame them? Might as well get all they can before Single Payer starts.

"Some see group appointments as a way to ease looming physician shortages. According to a study published in December, meeting the country’s health-care needs will require nearly 52,000 additional primary-care physicians by 2025. More than 8,000 of that total will be needed for the more than 27 million people newly insured under the Affordable Care Act."

When does 0'Bama start deciding who will (be coerced to) study medicine when enrollment numbers tank? Any guesses whether he will do that before his third term?
