If Illegal Amnesty’s Border Security Fails… There Will be a Commission

Shown: A more useful commission

Don’t worry. Once we’ve legalized 12 million illegal aliens if for some unthinkable reason, Obama Inc. doesn’t get a handle on border security measures… there will be… a… commission.

That’s right. An honest go goodness commission with chairs and desks and water glasses and everything. Mickey Kaus was predicting all along that the only real border security measure would be a commission and he was proven right [2].

There is no border security in the amnesty. It’s just amnesty. And I wouldn’t count on the e-verify either. The employer verification in the ’86 amnesty went nowhere.

The only thing that the “conservatives” get out of this is, supposedly, that citizenship may be delayed long enough that the Republican senators backing this will have their chance to run for president without being torpedoed by 12 million undocumented Democrats.

And that’s a win for their careers. It’s not a win for conservatism.

It looks like the requirement that the Border Patrol catch 90% of illegal crossers… has turned out to be evanescent…

Of course, the 90% “trigger” was never a barrier to legalization–illegal immigrants will get that more or less immediately under the Gang bill, or maybe as soon as Department of Homeland Security comes up with a border “plan.” The supposed “trigger” would only be hurdle if these amnestied legalized immigrants subsequently sought “green card” status, which would in turn open the possibility of  citizenship. But it turns out even this half-fake lock-the-barn-door trigger doesn’t really trigger anything. If the DHS doesn’t meet the 90% goal, what happens? According to the NYT:

If, after five years, border officials have not reached the surveillance and enforcement goals, the bill establishes a border commission to advise the Department of Homeland Security on how to reach its goals, with additional financing of up to $2 billion.

A commission!

That’s a commission with 2 billion dollars. Which it can put forward to promoting food stamps and medical clinics in Mexico on the theory that this will make America less of a magnet.

The bottom line is that there is no border security. The border security depends on the willingness of Obama to secure the border. And that is the same man shipping fighter jets to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and body armor to the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria. The same man who unilaterally rammed through a partial amnesty and who has every political reason for bringing in as many undocumented Democrats as he can.

You would have better luck putting a bulging wallet in your back pocket and walking around the rougher parts of Brooklyn, than of getting border security from Obama.

But when the border security doesn’t pan out, there will be a commission. Maybe by then a bunch of undocumented Democrats will even be on it.
