IRS Forced Pro-Life Group to Sign Pledge Not to Protest Planned Parenthood

Obama-frank

Non-profits regularly conduct protests. ACORN turned protesting into a full time activity. Obama’s own OFA has turned into a non-profit and is running pro-amnesty protests.

If non-profits couldn’t protest, then most lefty non-profits wouldn’t exist. But the IRS imposed different rules when it came to protesting against Planned Parenthood.

When the Coalition for Life of Iowa sought tax exemption status in 2009, the IRS sought details about the content of members’ prayers at a Planned Parenthood facility. They also demanded that the group refrain both from activities that could be construed as protesting or picketing by police, and to cease activities that could be seen as confrontational or harassing by abortion-seeking clients.

Thomas More Society said the IRS insisted that “every member of the board of directors of the Coalition sign a statement, under penalty of perjury, that they will not picket or protest or organize others to picket or protest outside of Planned Parenthood.”

Soon after the unprecedented demands were made, the Chicago-based public interest law firm made the legal challenge on behalf of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based group. Shortly thereafter, the IRS backed off and the group was granted 501(c)3 status.

“The IRS must operate within the constraints of law, and it cannot condition the grant of tax exempt status on the forfeiture or surrender of First Amendment rights on the part of any non-profit group or individual American citizens,” Thomas More Society’s attorney Thomas Brejcha commented in a 2009 press release.

Except that is exactly what the IRS was doing. And it was doing it during the early years of Obama Inc.

Eric Holder’s Wife Co-Owns abortion clinic building with doctor under indictment for Medicaid fraud…no wonder…

Did the IRS require any progressive organizations applying for tax-exempt status to sign pledges not to appear at any protests of, say, Tea Party rallies? Or pro-life demonstrations?

Oh wait, their strict scrutiny of conservative groups wasn't partisan or political. Excuse me. Ignore this post.

This is outrageous even by the standards of a Banana Republic…

The IRS is not only a behemoth but is a bludgeon against those their leadership disagree with, and THAT is illegal!
And the fact of the matter is that individuals who have experience dealing with them from a professional practice, understand more than most what they are capable of. And having co-owned a corp tax practice – operated out of NYC & NJ, I became more than acquainted with their poohbahs. And their Newark, NJ office is one such example, in particular its criminal division for non-profits – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/09/10/way-past-time

Its worse than what is now being revealed!

As outrageous as this behavior by the IRS is, it unfortunately comes as no surprise. The entire Obama administration is working feverishly to squeeze more power out of every department. The IRS is the perfect fulcrum to leverage more power through fear and intimidation.

The Left craves power, but not merely to possess that power. They want to use every ounce of power they acquire in as negative a fashion as possible, as soon as possible. One way, or another, the Left converts power into destruction, every time. If they can destroy a tradition, especially Christian, they'll do that. If they can destroy a segment of the economy, they'll enthusiastically do that. If it is someon'e reputation, or life, they leap to the opportunity. Forcing Pro-Life groups into dhimmitude is the least they would like to do to them, but at least it destroys their constitutional rights.

Had enough yet, America? Are we learning yet?

This is exactly what Ronald Reagan meant when he said that "Freedom is not passed along in the blood. It requires constant vigilance to maintain."

The cockroaches have been very busy while we slept. Now it's time to fumigate the whole nation.

No, nukeing the people of a democratic coutry over a basic political disagreement is the strategy and threat of progressive heros like Stalin, Che, Stumpy Kim of N Korea, Stumpy Kim's father Stumpier Kim and I presume possibly you. L4S is likely wishing to use the democratic process to run the jackasses out of Washington and keep them out. Now get back under your bridge.
