Islamist Turkey PM Threatens to Expel US Ambassador for Corruption Comments

U.S. President Obama shakes hands with Turkey's PM Erdogan after a bilateral meeting in Seoul

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has all the self-control of a dachshund with rabies and the leeway given to him by Europe and America has only made him more arrogant.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has implied to expel US Ambassador to Ankara for his alleged remarks regarding a major graft probe in which four ministers face allegations of bribery and wrongdoing, and the state bank Halkbank is accused of links to suspicious money transactions and gold-smuggling from Iran.

According to a report appeared on the pro-government Yenişafak daily, the US Ambassador Francis Ricciardone told EU ambassadors in Ankara in a meeting on Dec. 17, the beginning of the graft probe, that the US had asked Turkey to cut Halkbank’s financial ties with Iran.

“We requested end of financial ties of Halkbank with Iran. But they didn’t listen. You are watching collapse of an empire [Turkey],” said Ricciardone, according to the Yenişafak report, regarding the ongoing investigation into alleged bribery and tender rigging.

Speaking at a rally in northern province of Samsun on Saturday, Erdoğan again struck a defiant tone, adamantly rejected any wrongdoing, deeming the corruption case as an international plot to weaken Turkey’s growing economic and diplomatic clout, and topple the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government.

Erdogan responds to everything by calling it a conspiracy. He locked up half the Turkish military and half the Kurds in the country on conspiracy charges. So naturally investigating his corrupt Islamist influence network is… a conspiracy.

“These recent days, very strangely, ambassadors get involved in some provocative acts. I am calling on them from here, do your job, if you leave your area of duty, this could extend into our government’s area of jurisdiction. We do not have to keep you [Ricciardone] in our country,” Erdogan told supporters in the Black Sea province of Samsun, implying to expel US ambassador.

The US Embassy to Turkey has denied any role in the investigation. “All allegations in news stories are downright lies and slander,” it said in a statement.

The statement said massive corruption probe in Turkey has nothing to do with the United States, denying reports appeared in pro-government dailies. He warned that nobody should put Turkish-US ties at jeopardy with such false claims.

The Embassy also denied existence of such a meeting between Ricciardone and EU ministers in Ankara on Dec. 17.

Erdoğan’s remarks would likely to fuel tension between two allies amid ongoing corruption investigation.

Erdogan and his AKP allies control much of the media and it would be in their interest to manufacture such remarks in order to shift attention from their corruption to an American conspiracy.

“You are watching collapse of an empire [Turkey],” said Ricciardone, ”

    What does that mean?

Turkey is not an empire. Does it mean the end of the Erdogan government or the control of the Salafis over the body politic?

Does it mean that the American government has put a stop to the Turkish government operation to subvert the sanction against Iran?

It means as always you don’t have a clue.

    • Daniel Greenfield

It means that Turkey fantasizes that it’s becoming an empire again.

So Erdogan is an irredentist in the ambassador’s eyes. He probably is. I believe so.

      • Gee

Yes last week the Prime Minister of Turkey stated that Turkey wanted to reclaim the Balkans.

        • A Z

There is a way to solve that problem.

Portraying Muslims as being Islamists, i.e., people working to make Islam supreme, while at the same time mischaracterizing Muslim extremists as those who want to impose Islam now as opposed to so-called Muslim moderates as being those who want to impose Islam eventually in the long-term, is still a very misleading way to portray Islam, especially when at the same time you mischaracterize what is actually violent jihad as somehow being terrorism perpetrated by a few Muslim extremists.

Indeed, to most people an Islamist is a Muslim extremist and potential terrorist, while a so-called moderate Muslim, on the other hand, is assumed to be a peaceful Muslim that is no different from an adherent of any other religion. Indeed, just ask any delusional Leftists and unfortunately most people on the right as well.

The reality, however, is all Muslims are jihadists in one form or another, because waging jihad is a fundamental holy obligation incumbent upon all Muslims in one form or another, and waging jihad, which is a holy war to ultimately make Islam supreme, is a much more profound threat for the infidel world to deal with as opposed to mere terrorism perpetrated by a few stray Muslim extremists here and there. Since it is a holy war waged against all religions and all infidels simultaneously by all Muslims in the world to ultimately make Islam supreme at the expense of freedom in the world.

In other words, a war, i.e., a holy war in this case but a war nonetheless, is fundamentally a much greater threat to the freedom of the world than mere terrorism perpetrated here and there by a few stray Muslim extremists, which is the way you inappropriately portray it. Especially when you consider the fact that all Muslims in the world are waging jihad (holy war) in one form or another, either violently (a tiny minority) or non-violently via stealth and deception (the vast overwhelming majority of them). Indeed, it is those non-violent stealth and deceptive jihadists that by far constitute the greatest threat to our freedom and our society, but are nonetheless almost always totally ignored by you and the greater society at large, as the focus it seems is always only on preventing the relatively rare terrorist attack perpetrated by “Muslim extremists.”

Nevertheless, if the preponderance of the focus isn’t eventually cast on the vast overwhelming majority of Muslims in the world that are also non-violent and stealth jihadists, then it will be only a matter of time before the last of the freedom is snuffed out and we find ourselves to be subjugated dhimmis living in an Islamic totalitarian hellhole.
