John Kerry Announces End of Monroe Doctrine

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

The Monroe Doctrine is over. The Botox Doctrine has begun.

The Monroe Doctrine is over. The Botox Doctrine has begun.

Who needs a doctrine from 190 years ago anyway (or an old Constitution for that matter)?

Beat it Monroe. We don’t need your era of good feelings here. We’ve got hope and change and more unemployment and corruption than a banana republic.

Just when you thought that Obama had run out of places to retreat from. After trashing American influence in the Middle East, Asia and Europe, the great minds at Obama Inc. turned to, what else, but the Monroe Doctrine.

Yesterday, November 18, Secretary of State Kerry repudiated the Monroe Doctrine in a speech to the Inter-American Dialogue.  Here’s what he said:

“When people speak of the Western Hemisphere, they often talk about transformations that have taken place, but the truth is one of the biggest transformations has happened right here in the United States of America.  In the early days of our republic, the United States made a choice about its relationship with Latin America.  President James Monroe, who was also a former Secretary of State, declared that the United States would unilaterally, and as a matter of fact, act as the protector of the region.  The doctrine that bears his name asserted our authority to step in and oppose the influence of European powers in Latin America.  And throughout our nation’s history, successive presidents have reinforced that doctrine and made a similar choice.

“Today, however, we have made a different choice.  The era of the Monroe Doctrine is over.  (Applause.)  The relationship – that’s worth applauding.  That’s not a bad thing.  (Applause.)  The relationship that we seek and that we have worked hard to foster is not about a United States declaration about how and when it will intervene in the affairs of other American states.  It’s about all of our countries viewing one another as equals, sharing responsibilities, cooperating on security issues, and adhering not to doctrine, but to the decisions that we make as partners to advance the values and the interests that we share.”

That sounds great. Please tell us more how this plan to have all countries be equals works? Does every country in the world get enough F-22s to be a match for the United States, Russia and China?

So the United States will no longer announce when it will protect other countries. So that means it won’t have enduring security agreements with other countries.

Is that what John Kerry is really saying… or is he too stupid to understand the implications of what he’s saying?

We report. You decide.

I had to look Monroe Doctrine up! Kerry is mad, crazy! Previousn presidents have repected the Monroe Doctrine. There is more to this then “equalization”, wouldn’t you think?

    • pupsncats

Kerry, traitor and incompetent (except to marry rich women), is crazy but he and Obama are birds of the same feather. Both hate America with a passion. That is why he is the perfect choice of Obama’s for Secretary of State.

The Monroe Doctrine died with how the President treated Honduras. We didn’t even know at the time he was practicing foreign policy for when he would support the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Brasil could be the equivalent of the U.S. or close to it given its size and population. That is not likely given its’ Gini coefficient. But after reading Zero Hedge I do not think we have anything to crow about.

How Washington D.C. Is Sucking The Life Out Of America
    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-11-19/how-washington-dc-sucking-life-out-america

Around 1940 Argentina was very close to Canada. And then they took a vicious left turn.

Chile could stand in for Britain or a formerly respectable European country.

Venezuela, Peru, Columbia all have the resources and population to be good mid level countries. But socialists keep rolling back any progress.

They should be peers, but I see the Soviets and others really messing with the politics and economies. the Monroe Doctrine is still needed.

But Democrat politicians for the most part never met a Communist they did not like.

Pol Pot’s only sin (in Leftist eyes) was not to wear a suit, some Ray-Ban sunglasses and and come to a Western capital to shake some hands. Well also not losing a few pounds and losing power. Losing power was especially a sin. It allowed the world to document leftist genocide.

  • Veracious_one

Kerry and Obama Inc love throwing our allies under the bus….

  • taisho

The Monroe doctrine died in 1917 and was fully interned by 1945

  • VHG1

Kerry and Obama end the “Monroe Doctrine” and replace it with the “Moron Doctrine”! Just leave the process to the democrats, they’re very good at screwing it all up!

  • pupsncats

“The relationship that we seek and that we have worked hard to foster is
not about a United States declaration about how and when it will
intervene in the affairs of other American states.”

Latin Americans ought to be very concerned about this statement, although he meant to say under the Obama regime, America’s security and interests are completely irrelevant. Obama’s foreign policy and national security policy, as well as his domestic policy, is to eliminate our power and influence around the world, redistribute our wealth to the third world nations, China and Russia, prop up and then expand the power and influence of the Islamic terrorists, and create a class war here to eliminate the middle class.

Obama’s hatred of everything America stands for is so evident in everything she says and does that only a complete fool can’t see this.

  • USNbubblehead

Actually, the Monroe Doctrine was more aimed at keeping European powers out of the western hemisphere, than it was keeping aspiring Latin American nations down. At the time, European nations were still very colonialist, and this doctrine kept those countries from colonizing (and exploiting) Latin America.

Kerry is not only a liar and a valor fraud, but a revisionist history enthusiast as well.

    • tjking

Simon Bolivar and virtually every newly liberated Latin American leader in the western Hemisphere hailed the Doctrine with gratitude. Maybe we should apologize for the NATO treaty or maybe we should apologize for those eyesore white crosses on the heights above Omaha Beach.

John Kerry is America’s Queen of Oikiophobia and Obama decided his proper place is the face of foreign policy for the United States. Nice.

Three more years. Three more fucking years.

    • USNbubblehead

I try not to think about it too much. Keeps me awake at night.

Same here USN- I am taking more tranquilizers lately, than I have before 2008 and especially since 2012!!! And my blood pressure meds have gone up too!lol I just can’t understand why he is not being tried for treason and other acts against our country and it’s citizens! He and Biden both need to go away, and if Harry Reid is next in line, he needs to go also!!!

Our first black President could murder his grandmother in the Oval Office as a human sacrifice to Moloch while he is having a group encounter with half a dozen White House interns and filming the moment to take to the wife and kids, while the phone is ringing off the wall to inform him of a jihadist invasion of New York City as 100 million people receive letters cancelling their health care insurance plans and he’d still be getting approval ratings that hover around 40% (if not higher). He could even be chain-smoking cigarettes in the presence of other people.

Obama will not be impeached no matter what he does. It simply will not happen. Our political leaders are too afraid of being labeled as racists.

One prays fervently that Obama has been neutralized for the next three years, but I am afraid that the current bars to his action and the problems he is having will pass all too soon.

        • Omar

Those leaders need to realize that Obama is a mixed-race president. He is half-black and half-white. The public thinks that the president’s race is only that of his father, which is erroneous. His father’s family, who are from Kenya (which is located in East Africa), are neither Americans nor descended from West Africa (most black Americans and other people of African descent living in the Western Hemisphere are descended from people who came from West Africa). Anyway, the left’s obsession with the president and race exposes it’s own hypocrisy against racial and ethnic minorities who happen to be conservatives. The let’s nasty behavior towards Herman Cain is one of many examples of the left’s racism and bigotry against conservative minorities.

Didn’t I just see Kerry working the crowd and saying pull my finger at the JFK memorial yesterday? This Massachusetts snob has been pushing himself to the front of the “I’m JFK” club all week long. Talk about revisionism. JFK viscerally hated communism. He may have paid lip service to civil rights and other policies historians wish he was a cheerleader for but JFK hated Marxist Leninist thugs with venom and gritted yet very straight teeth. What was the primary “rock” JFK built his Cuban response upon? The Monroe Doctrine. Who is the last famous person to declare the Monroe Doctrine “dead”? How about Nikita Kruschev? Read what Time said about the Doctrine in 1962: http://www.upa.pdx.edu/IMS/currentprojects/TAHv3/Content/PDFs/Durable_Doctrine_TIME.pdf

“Kennedy’s statement failed to still voices that had been
raised against his inaction in the Cuba crisis.
And in the absence of a more positive policy, there
was increasing talk about a solid rock upon which current U.S. action against Cuba might bebased.
That rock is the Monroe Doctrine. Nikita Khrushchev considers the Monroe Doctrine a corpse.
Said he in 1960: “Now the remains of this doctrine should best be buried, as every dead body is,so that it does not poison the air by its decay.”

Who else held up the Monroe Doctrine on Cuba in 1962? Sen. Prescott Bush. Remember bipartisanship, Mr. Kerry.

Also make note that former President Harry Truman pulled the Wimp factor on former Allied commander and General, Pres. Eisenhower. “The reason we’re in trouble in Cuba,” he said, “is that Ike didn’t have the guts to enforce the Monroe Doctrine.” OK, maybe a lil partisanship back then calling the GOP peaceniks.

Mr. Kerry, I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine…”

My decision is that John Kerry possesses the brain of a half-baked potato.

  • Flowerknife_us

Clearing the way for Americas enemies to operate freely in South America is all that Kerry is doing. Looking to fill Hugo’s shoes with anyone who will give us the finger.

So if Russia installs nuclear missiles in Cuba a second time, that will be something we will ignore? Is that what Kerry is saying?

How about if the French re-install a monarchy and take over Mexico? Stranger things have happened.

How about if the Red Chinese start limiting use of the Panama Canal? Just another day in Central America, right? None of OUR business…

The Monroe Doctrine was needed in order to avoid a repeat of the War of 1812 about a decade earlier. During that war, Britain tried to retake the United States and managed to attack the White House in our nations’s capital. The war ultimately ended in a draw. At the time of the doctrine (1823), many countries in the Western Hemisphere were freed from colonial rule. But Spain and Portugal had a shared urge to retake many of their former colonies in Latin America. So the United States instituted the Monroe Doctrine to protect the Latin American countries and to make sure that the European powers did not recolonize the newly formed countries in the Western Hemisphere. Many of the independence leaders in Latin America admired the United States and viewed its government and struggle for independence as a role model for the continent. Unfortunately, the names and legacies of those independence leaders in Latin America have been exploited by radical leftists who hate America and democracy and who support Communist totalitarianism. If Simon Bolivar came back to life and returned to Venezuela, he would be horrified at how his native country has been taken over by radical left-wing tyrants who have exploited his name and legacy in order to impose their unpopular, autocratic rule on the people and to impose their rule on other peoples.

Big chess piece move here. With the ideologues in charge now, we are rushing head long to check mate….if you’re not a prepper already, you better start….

Lurch puking out platitudes doesn’t make it so. Since when does a traitorous imbecile like Lurch (who by the way served in Vietnam and Cambodia and has the hat to prove it) get to totally define foreign policy in that swelled head of his? This clown show would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic. Lurch, the Kenyan, the Hildebeast, and the Cupholder are such clown characters. Unfortunately, the only ones laughing are Putin and the rest of the world’s despots champing at the bit to bury our formerly great republic that has always been an obstacle to their quest for tyranny.
