Member of Queers Against Israel Arrested by Egypt Before Trying to Cross into Hamas Gaza

John Greyson really hates Israel. The man, often described as a Canadian filmmaker, is known for only two things. Documentaries about gays. And hating Israel.

Canadian filmmaker John Greyson, the director of four episodes of Queer as Folk, the 1989 movie Urinal (original title Pissoir) a mystery involving gay sex in a bathroom, and a bunch of pseudo-documentaries about how gay men are oppressed in Russia, Serbia and South Africa, doesn’t seem to realize that they’re not exactly all that popular in Hamas-run Gaza.

But the director of Moscow Does Not Believe in Queers will not be doing a doc, Gaza Does Not Believe in Queers. Instead as a member of Queers Against Israel, John Greyson demands that everyone join him in boycotting the only country in the Middle East that wouldn’t chop off his head.

Now the director of Uncut, You Taste American and After the Bath was arrested while waiting to cross into Gaza to make another propaganda doc.

Loubani was on his way to Gaza as part of an ongoing collaboration between the University of Western Ontario and Al-Shifa Hospital. Greyson was tagging along as a filmmaker to do some exploratory work.

“Their plan was to travel from Egypt to Gaza,” he said. “They were in Cairo and the crossing was closed from what I understand so they stayed an extra day in Cairo and that’s when they were arrested. I haven’t heard from them since.”

Tarek Loubani is an ISM activist, a pro-terrorist group linked to several Hamas acts of terrorism. Egypt may have done Greyson a favor, considering Hamas’ views on gay men.

The Hamas-controlled Gaza strip has declared homosexuality punishable by death. Hamas cofounder Mahmoud Zahar has said, “You in the West do not live like human beings. You do not even live like animals. You accept homosexuality. And now you criticize us?”
