Multicultural Lessons in School Cause Racism

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Pupils at King Edward V1 School Handsworth start their GCSE examination in Biology

I would call this another case of a liberal policy backfiring, except it isn’t really. It’s doing what it’s meant to do which is promote divisiveness and spread resentment.

Children who are given anti-racism lessons in school are more likely to be intolerant outside the classroom, a major study found yesterday.

It said accusing white pupils of racism causes animosity, and discussing sensitive ethnic concerns such as honour killings paints minority group children in a bad light.

Patricia Morgan, an author on  the family and education, said  yesterday: ‘If you rub children’s noses in their supposed racism, they resent it.

‘Pupils are being accused of things they haven’t thought or done. Multiculturalism attempts to manipulate children’s thoughts, beliefs and emotions, it amounts to indoctrination, and it doesn’t work. It is counter-productive.

‘This study shows that when people try to manipulate children’s minds, it bounces back on them.’

Children aren’t born racist, in other words, the barrage of racial awareness, white privilege anti-racist and multicultural programming helps make them racist.

The survey said children who live in mixed neighbourhoods are often free of hostility towards other racial groups. But it found that ‘when more attention in class is being paid to the multicultural society, the liberalising effect of positive contact in class on youngsters’ xenophobic attitude decreases’.

Because it creates divisiveness. Which is the point. It’s not supposed to fight racism, it’s supposed to create racism to fight.

It said boys tended to be more intolerant of other groups than girls, and intolerance was greatest among those with strong religious or ethnic identity, among those from Turkish or Moroccan backgrounds, and those with the lowest educational achievements.

Surprisingly Muslims are intolerant of others. Supremacist ideologies tend to be so.

Education Secretary Michael  Gove has been under fire from Left-wing academics over plans to stop teaching teenagers about topics such as ‘the wide cultural, social and ethnic diversity of Britain from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century and how this has helped shape Britain’s identity’.

Instead, in future pupils will be taught much more British history.

  • Michael Copeland

‘‘the wide cultural, social and ethnic diversity of Britain from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century” is a left wing myth – just propaganda, typical of their poison. It is at variance with those tiresome things, facts.

    • objectivefactsmatter

"…the wide cultural, social and ethnic diversity of Britain from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century…"

They did import lots of spices from India. They were also tolerant of men who wore turbans. That's cultural diversity that somewhat enriches our civilization. Appeasing psychotic totalitarian religious liars does the opposite, obviously.

Therefore they are dangerous and malicious liars.

  • Edward Cline

"Instead, in future pupils will be taught much more British history." Well, that's a step in the right direction. Now all they have to do is shut down the Sharia courts in Britain, round up all the Muslim vigilante patrols and put a stop to them, close all the mosques, and send all the Muslims packing back to Sharia-governed Muslim paradises. And not charge the British taxpayer for the fares.

  • onecornpone

Adolescents particularly resent being accused of 'being' something they are NOT.

So called minority communities are actually the more guilty of teaching racism, setting the tone for their children to be ever vigilant, which leads to impressionable kids seeing problems, where often there are none.

Teaching multiculturalism is akin to planting a seed of doubt, which grows into mistrust, and develops into hatred. The human mind is capable of making gargantuan leaps…

    • Darrell Davis

“..they see problems where often there are none?” THAT is the real problem. Own your racism. There is centuries of proof that there ARE problems.

  • Jess

I'm no lefty, but this is the most ill-conceived 'argument' I've ever read. I particularly enjoyed the parting shot about all Muslims. In fact the parts of this clap-trap that you've actually written yourself read like they've been written down by a teenager who still thinks its cool to hate everything and everyone. Honestly, this is what you have contributed:

"I would call this another case of a liberal policy backfiring, except it isn’t really. It’s doing what it’s meant to do which is promote divisiveness and spread resentment.

Paranoid, conspiracy-mad, rambling journalism at its absolute worst. Shame on you.

Your comment is a tedious, evidenceless rant.

Rather than going through all the points which I suspect from your tone and utter ignorance, would be a complete waste of time I'll deal with the last paragraph.

Here in Britain Muslims live in self imposed ghettos.

They very rarely marry an infidel and women who do are often, due to threat and actual assault are forced to move.

They do not mingle unless in a position of self ordained superiority.

Many choose not to work in order to avoid the kuffar and the ultimate humiliation of having to act on kuffar instructions and orders.

It goes on and its not me saying this but themselves.

Try this. However I'm not holding my breath. Ignorance especially in face of the facts is a self generating ailment.

You underestimate me. No one who knows me could accuse me of willful ignorance. I know Islam is not a perfect institution, and I've read all the reports about violence and abuse. All I'm saying is this was supposed to be an article about 'multi-cultural lessons' and you've turned it into an Islam bashing session. Everyone who has a brain knows that EVERYONE can be guilty of racism. It's one thing to argue that white people aren't the only culprits (which is certainly true), but it's another altogether to try and shift the blame on to another race…isn't that what you're trying to end?

Also, I disagree, that wasn't a rant, it was a small paragraph at best, you must have been confused as most of it was actually what you wrote.

        • Larry

Islam is not a race, it is a discriminatory politico-religious ideology.

        • objectivefactsmatter

Because they are presented by leftists as victims of "white (or Christian, or capitalist) colonialism" when virtually every "grievance" they suggest is deception to serve Islamic jihad.

That's sort of salient. Because these multicultural lessons do precisely what the pretend to undo. They promote destructive imperialism based on religious affiliation by propagating the lies that were created just for that purpose.

It's the most salient point about these programs because it's the most dangerous end-result.

        • Mary Sue

are you unaware of the Political Ideology of Identity Politics, that states that ONLY whites can be "racist"?

        • logdon

Multiculturalism these days tends to be all about outreach to Islam. We reach out, they take and another yard is lost. Bit by bit Western culture is eradicated.

There are whole towns in Britain where this has occurred and they descend into semi-lawless hell holes where christians are not welcome. We are the victims. We are the ones being driven out. In our own lands.

As for shifting blame onto another race, first off, as Larry says Islam is not a race.

Second, there's no blame to shift. There are facts and if you'd care to visit the Religion of Peace site its all laid out.

I also suggest a little self education. Try inputting 'islam' on Amazon or buy Robert Spencer's Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and you'll get the history of this imperialist entity.

As for your last para on my purported confusion…..

'Paranoid, conspiracy-mad, rambling journalism at its absolute worst. Shame on you'.,

Sounds like a rant to me.

    • objectivefactsmatter

      >"Surprisingly Muslims are intolerant of others. Supremacist ideologies tend to be so."

"Paranoid, conspiracy-mad, rambling journalism at its absolute worst. Shame on you."

How's this: "Not surprisingly Islamic ideology leads adherents to be intolerant of others. Supremacist ideologies tend to do so."

But they are presented as collective victims by these programs.

    • Mary Sue

oh, so you're one of those Identity-Politics-believing-without-question people? You don't know what you're talking about.

    • owmyballs

      Jess' another troll,
you claim the writer's argument is "ill conceived" but you have no argument to rebut it. You need to work harder if you want to earn your troll paycheck. You are exactly the sort of smug, misinformed bigot that was referred to in the article.

    • DaleTheNerd

You sound like you may be a lefty to me. Look on your bedroom wall. Is there a poster of Che on it?

Too true. I think it's time we stop teaching about slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, theft of native land, broken treaties, etc. While history is important, it's more important that we get along and that minorities aren't mad at us. The old history books that taught us slaves were happy on the plantation may have been inaccurate, but we should bring them back because they promote harmony, which is missing from our society. And we should just get rid of all that footage from the civil rights movement showing fire hoses, attack dogs and white mobs attacking civil rights marchers. What good can it possibly do today to show that to high school kids!?

    • objectivefactsmatter

Teach the true facts of history, not collectivism.

    • Mary Sue

You're missing the point. That's not even what they're talking about. They're not talking about schools and teachers teaching about Jim Crow etc. They're talking about complete absolute off their rocker whack nut jobs who believe that ONLY "whitey" is the Oppressor, and that minority status is eternal or something. Children are being taught that NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO THEY ARE RACIST, AND THEY CAN NEVER BE NOT-RACIST. WHat kind of a lesson is that to teach a child?

No we should not get rid of that footage, but that's not what they're talking about anyway.

    • owmyballs

      guest troll,

I think we should stop teaching that Whitey (men only) is the source of all evil and that everybody else is a noble victim of social injustice. That way, there would be far less idiotic comments made by trolls.

"‘Pupils are being accused of things they haven’t thought or done. Multiculturalism attempts to manipulate children’s thoughts, beliefs and emotions, it amounts to indoctrination, and it doesn’t work. It is counter-productive."

So indoctrinating children with malignant collectivist ideals is not…ideal? Huh. Who knew?

    • Mary Sue

I'm not surprised. If they teach a white child that he can never, EVER be not-racist, of course that's going to breed resentment borne of frustration. Conversely, they're teaching the non-white children that they are perfectly justified to go around with a chip on their shoulders about "whitey" and that extends to being allowed to attack them or even KILL them because of some nebulous concept of "institutional racism".

      • Wolfeatworld

You wanna meet Tuesday and pick out the furniture –– Mary Sue?

Well, of course I LOVE you…what did you think, that I use this ‘line’ on all my female bloggers?

        Yes, yes. So, can we?

(Meet Tuesday and pick out the furniture?)

  • Mary Sue

Teaching non-Caucasian children that "Whitey The Man keeps you down JUST BY EXISTING" will not end well.
