As reported here last week, the Brotherhood is coping with Egyptian police strikes which is a problem when you’re trying to suppress large amounts of angry protesters.
One of the things that the police are angry about is the Muslim Brotherhood attempt to take over the police. But the Brotherhood appears to be finding a shortcut to having its own police force on the streets.

A former leader of the Freedom and Justice Party and chairman of the parliament’s workforce Abel Fotouh revealed that the party is looking at a range of alternatives in response to the announcement that Central Security camps and police stations in Cairo and other governorates are holding a work strike.
Abel Fotouh said that among the alternatives may be to advance a bill to the Shura Council for giving private security companies the right to act as judicial officers and legalize the use of arms.
Aside from bringing in an alternative to the police, the Brotherhood’s business interest would make it easy for them to buy up some security companies, if they don’t already own them, and use them as the new police force with the power to arrest and shoot protesters.
Suddenly the Muslim Brotherhood would have its own police force. Then after a period it could consolidate the official police forces under their leadership.
