Unlike Israel, Gambia is a Muslim country. Which means there’s no pinkwashing to see here. Just Islam. Tolerant Islam. The Religion of Peace.
“The leader of a small West African nation that receives American humanitarian aid has warned that any gay or lesbians found in his country will “regret” being born.
The president’s latest rant came during a speech on March 28 at the opening of the country’s parliament, according to Gambia’s Freedom Newspaper Online. In an interesting juxtaposition of themes, Jammeh called for continued peace in his country, promised to root out criminal activity and warned homosexuals to stay out of the region or suffer severe consequences.
“Homosexuality is anti-humanity. I have never seen homosexual chicken, or turkey,” Jammeh said, according to the Freedom Newspaper. “If you are convicted of homosexuality in this country, there will be no mercy for offenders.”
Homosexuals are not welcome in the Gambia. If we catch you, you will regret why you are born. I have buffalos from South Africa and Brazil and they never date each other. We are ready to eat grass but we will not compromise on this.
And in 2008, Jammeh said he would “cut off the head” of any gay person caught in the country, a threat he later retracted, according to Agence France-Presse.
Beheading people is a classic Muslim response to all sorts of problems. Despite all this, Gambia gets a fraction of the attention from gay rights activists that Uganda does. Because Uganda is a majority Christian country while Gambia is a majority Muslim country.
And you could ask Jammeh to step down, but that would be Islamophobic because he was appointed by Allah himself.
“Allah entrusted this position to Yahya Jammeh, and anybody who is averse to the decree of Allah can bite their nose,” snarled a spokesman for the president.
The real pinkwashing is the left’s pinkwashing of Islam and Islamic countries on gay rights.
And don’t look for Obama to stop shoving money at Jammeh. Or to start pressuring it the way that he pressures Israel. Muslim countries get a free pass on liberal values. Anything else would be Islamophobia.
While George W. Bush suspended aid to Gambia for its lack of human rights, there has been no such obstacle under Obama.
