Ho Chi Minh was a very complex person, and a revolutionary, as were our founding fathers. When I was a common 11B in the field, we received paperback books to read. Along with several other soldiers in my platoon, I read one which I think was entitled “Ho Chi Minh, a Political Biography”. Thomas Jefferson was
referenced several times. At that time we realized that Vietnam was in a
complex civil war going back hundreds of years before the United States sent in
our military forces. Not only were there were conflicts between the North and
the South, but between the indigenous Montanards, the Buddhists were committing suicide by immolation in protest to the Catholic powers which ran the South out of Saigon, etc. When someone got ticked off about Ho’s inspiration from
Jefferson, a black guy in our squad reminded us that Jefferson was a slave

"I just don't get it. Reading the comments here one would think that the U.S. should never fraternize with our former enemies."

We're critiquing his rhetoric, not his actions (in this case). And we're pointing out that his rhetoric is consistent with his other historical revisionism that never ceases to come from his teleprompter and social media outlets.

"I wonder how many of those respondents drive Toyota's and BMW's."

We never praised Japan's emperor for his justifications for war.

"Others have said that Obama is cozying up to the Vietnamese. Must I remind everyone here that Bush paid a visit to Vietnam in November, 2006?"

It's not the visit. It's the rhetoric we object to. And at this point, we simply don't trust him based on relevant history.

Do you have any video or transcripts actually showing 0'Bama promoting American values rather than repackaging America as a socialist country held back by "rednecks" aka "bitter clingers?"

Got any at all? From any point in his life?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2013/07/25/president-obamas-bilateral-meeting-president-truong-tan-sang#transcript

0'Bama:

"At the conclusion of the meeting, President Sang shared with me a copy of a letter sent by Ho Chi Minh to Harry Truman. And we discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson. Ho Chi Minh talks about his interest in cooperation with the United States. And President Sang indicated that even if it's 67 years later, it's good that we're still making progress."

Question: Who wrote the US Declaration of Independence?

Of course the sleazy politicians use weasel words designed to embolden enemies while retaining plausible deniability.

As I said elsewhere, it's not that big of a deal on its own. The problem is that 0'Bama is clearly a crypto-communist in everything he says and does when he's not working on advancing the interests of the jihadis of the Muslim Brotherhood. So it's noteworthy and consistent with that observation but on its own, not that big a deal.

I just don't get it. Reading the comments here one would think that the U.S. should never fraternize with our former enemies. I wonder how many of those respondents drive Toyota's and BMW's.

Others have said that Obama is cozying up to the Vietnamese. Must I remind everyone here that Bush paid a visit to Vietnam in November, 2006?

And it's not as if the U.S. hasn't done business with other commie countries.
