Obama Inc. to Deny Cancer Treatments by Redefining What “Cancer” Is

obamacare

The death panels aren’t going to come through the front door. They’re going to sneak up on you from behind with piano wire.

On July 29, 2013, a working group for the National Cancer Institute (the main government agency for cancer research) published a paper proposing that the term “cancer” be reserved for lesions with a reasonable likelihood of killing the patient if left untreated. Slower growing tumors would be called a different name such as “indolent lesions of epithelial origin” (IDLE).

Their justification was that modern medical technology now allows doctors to detect small, slow-growing tumors that likely wouldn’t be fatal. Yet once patients are told they have a cancer, many become frightened and seek unnecessary further tests, chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery.

By redefining the term “cancer,” the National Cancer Institute hopes to reduce patient anxiety and reduce the risks and expenses associated with supposedly unnecessary medical procedures. In technical terms, the government hopes to reduce “overdiagnosis” and “overtreatment” of cancer.

And of course compel doctors to stop recommending expensive “overtreatments” for things that are no longer cancers.

Similarly, the American Medical Association recently voted to declare obesity a “disease.” But as Cato Institute health care analyst Michael Tanner noted, “the AMA’s move is actually a way for its members to receive more federal dollars, by getting obesity treatments covered under government health plans.”

In our Obamacare world, obesity is a serious disease, but cancer isn’t.

With respect to the definition of “cancer,” downgrading some conditions as no longer being “cancer” can and will used to justify reducing “unnecessary” screening tests (e.g., mammograms for women between ages 40-49).

That’s the whole point. The more the government takes over medicine, the more it is driven to reduce costs in order to fund a vast welfare state.

Dr. Milton Wolf, a practicing radiologist who cares for patients with DCIS warns against this Orwellian possibility:

“Health care rationing takes many insidious forms but perhaps the most immoral is for the government to wage a public relations campaign designed specifically to dissuade patients and doctors from seeking available cures for cancer. They scheme to rename cancer, not to cure it, but to deny it exists. These government rationers have calculated that rather than actually treat patients with cancer, it’s cheaper to simply keep them calm… right up to the very end.”

Aren’t we glad that crazy Sarah Palin lady with her death panel rants didn’t get elected. And instead we live with a wise and sane government that fights new wars while renaming them as interventions and cures cancer by renaming it and denying coverage?

Hope. Change. Death.

cancer is like pregnancy,,,either you have it or you don’t.

    • glpage

Under Obamacare you can get rid of a fetus, that might not be so for cancer.

      • Softly Bob

I expect that is because (according to Obamaloons) cancer is no longer a disease but a fetus is now classed as a tumor!

      • john_freeman0130

Maybe we should refer to a fetus as an indolent lesion of epithelial origin.

        • Magdalene51

Only if it’s a liberal lesion.

    • frodo

      Actually, no.

    • T.A.

“Cancer” is a term for a very wide range of actual symptoms and prognoses. Some types of cancer really aren’t threatening. Of course, many types are.

It is true that overtreatment is sometimes done to make patients feel happier and line the wallets of the doctors, even if the treatment is worse than the disease. This article does not even begin to address those issues.

  • Veracious_one

Obama’s just mad because he can’t kill infidels like Boko Haram or Al-Shababb can….

  • Ken

Barack Hussein Obama IS a cancer on this country

  • CowboyUp

They’ll make sure most cancers aren’t diagnosed until the guidelines say they’re too far along to treat with anything but pain pills or euthanasia. To keep the cancer survival rate from tanking and embarrassing them, they’ll probably only count the cases they decided to treat in the stats.

  • Softly Bob

VISIONS OF A GRIM FUTURE UNDER GOVERNMENT CARE

“Aah, Mr. Jones, I’m afraid that I’ve got some bad news for you. I’m afraid the tests show that you’re terminally ill.”

“But, I feel fine. Perfectly healthy. I only came in for a check-up.”

“That’s not what our tests say. You may feel okay now, but I assure you that within a few weeks you’ll start to feel very ill.”

“But, but…. can you do anything?”

“I’m afraid there’s no cure. It will get worse and become very painful…. agony, in fact. It’s a particularly violent form of cancer. You will be very uncomfortable indeed.
Of course, we do suggest immediate euthanasia to save you the pain of the next few months. You have two hours to say goodbye to your loved ones and then we will inject you immediately. Don’t worry, the process is entirely painless.”

    • objectivefactsmatter

That’s what foodstamp users will face once their votes are no longer needed, after elections are disposed of.

      • josh

there votes are not where not needed. as I believe stalin said “It’s not the people who vote that count. It’s the people who count the votes”.. What they need is people dependent on the government because so many are waking up to just how corrupt the system we live in truly is. people dependent on the government for food and shelter are less likely to rebel

After I was diagnosed and treated for a particularly aggressive prostate cancer at age 59, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommended that doctors not routinely screen for prostate cancer. Using their recommendation, I wouldn’t have been diagnosed until it was too late.

    • Gee

I think that is the idea – if it is too late – then they won’t have to spend any money curing you

    • r2bzjudge

I worked for 28 years for the same company. I had employer arranged health insurance. Thousands of dollars of premiums were paid over the years to various insurance companies. I recall going to a doctor once in 28 years. At 61, i am still alive. I have never been screened for anything, so it doesn’t matter what the recommendations are.

A co-worker had a prostate cancer operation and shortly after, i saw a TV show that questioned the reliability of prostate cancer screening. It made me wonder about whether my co-workers treatment was appropriate or not.

Medical care is way expensive. Karl Denninger posted a hospital bill for a “minor” procedure- replacing a battery in a defibrilator- the bill was something like $135,000.

Medicare costs have risen about 9% annually for decades.

Who can afford ANY of this anymore?

      • Kent Horton

I’m 61 now, and I might not have made it without my doctors. I spent 20+ years in the Army and got put back together a couple of times. After being beat up some, I also suffer from osteoarthritis that damn’ near crippled me. I also had a late in life emergency appendectomy. My past medical history has made me cognizant of the need for regular medical checkups, which were required in the Army anyway. If you’ve been lucky enough to get through life without medical issues, good for you.

With appropriate insurance coverage, costs aren’t that bad. However, costs have skyrocketed mostly due to government interference. Call it an unintended consequence of the Great Society, Medicare, and Medicaid.

  • DogmaelJones1

So, if a doctor detects a possible cancer lesion that may metastasize into cancer, nipping it in the bud won’t be allowed. Too expensive. You’ve got to wait until you’re about ready to die. This is Obamacare at its best.

    • Patriot077

Isn’t this why the Brits have been warning us? By the time you get treatment or a second opinion, you need to schedule your stop at the mortician.

      • gerry

Everyone warned you.Wecome to the club!

        • Patriot077

JUst because I don’t comment here doesn’t mean I haven’t been onto this from day one. Did you read the health insurance provisions in the stimulus bill? I did. And acted on my findings. My rally protest sign reads “Government Hands Infect Health Care”. People have asked to be photographed with it … But thanks for making me welcome.

      • r2bzjudge

If you can’t afford the treatment, you need to schedule your first stop at the mortician.

        • Patriot077

If you can’t afford treatment there are organizations and foundations that at least help you get reduced fees. Every hospital has a social services unit patients are encouraged to visit if they have needs. With government controlled insurance that will probably disappear too.

  • Steeloak

Cancer is primarily a disease of older people, by re-defining cancer, the central planners can kill off old people who get lots of expensive diseases that absorb limited healthcare dollars.
Obesity on the other hand is a gold mine for central planners. People get fat in childhood & many are obese by their twenties. The obese offer a whole lifetime of supporting big government through the taxes they pay, not to mention the vast control the government will be able to exercise on them.

” Mrs. Jones, we note from your records you are obese, unless you enter our mandatory organic vegan weight loss treatment program, we will be forced to deny you any further medical care for your (insert name of disease here).”

    • Smoking Hamster

Organic vegan? No thanks I’d rather die.

    • josh

I agree with everything you say but the end. They will never try and force someone to do something that would benefit there health and cant make them a insane amount of money. Them of course being big pharma and there drugs with all the side effect that of course needs more drugs to “cure”

  • Demoncat

Screw the Democrats. If I need surgery or cancer treatment and the Democrat autocrats are denying it to me or mine I’ll get it in France, Germany, China or Mexico

Sure it will be a pain in the @rse and more expensive then getting teated here, but it beats the alternative.

I am sure the Democraps will have a rule against treated overseas as it will mess up their actuarial tables in relation to social security payouts.

    • Patriot077

Pity that not everyone will have the means to explore these options. I know I won’t.

      • Demoncat

I have relatives in Germany, France and China. Maybe you can find bad doctors in China, but you can find them here too. With relatives in country you could tell the chaff from the kernel better.

Unless they do not let people with cancer, heart disease or other maladies fly or take a ship.

        • Patriot077

          Money is no object, eh?

          • englishvinal

LESS … far far less money to have ANY procedures done in China or Mexico… etc. etc… than here in the US.. and better treatment.
Do your research before you nay-say…… Patriot077

    • gerry

This is what it is all about, social security payout.Once you don’t pay taxes like before, you are considered as a drain on the system,so you have to be eliminated.Obamacare is the neatest way to do it!

      • Ant vs Grasshopper

Some people have 401 k and other saving that are taxed as they withdraw it. They pay taxes on it.

By the time the Democrats finish, saving for a rainy day or a retirement will be seen as evil. If you have money left over after taxes and the consumption they allow you, then you must have cheated.

That is except for the ruing class of course. They will retire after many years of valiant government service.

    • englishvinal

NO it is NOT as expensive as trying to get treatment in the US… not even right now this minute.
MUCH less expensive.. and far better care. (And the foreign hospitals are not spreading MRSA either.)
.. Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, even Nicaragua offer excellent doctors and hospitals, personalized care at about 15 cents on the dollar to what it costs in the US….and that is EVERYTHING, from heart bypass surgery to implant dental work.

  • T.A.

Although I do not at all trust government agencies to make decisions for health care, I must say the the implications made in this article are only that: implications. The case has not been made. Surely someone can come up with some doctors who can support the claim that the conditions declassified as cancer are more likely to cause harm under the recommended protocols than under the previous protocols.

I would rather have myself and my doctor in charge of these decisions
than a government bureaucracy. However, the article does not present
actual evidence that the decisions themselves are poor.

I don’t think treatment is always the right answer for a slow-growing cancer. It makes sense to me to have sensible protocols to balance the pros and cons of treatment. If something is a “cancer” yet it almost never grows fast enough to become a problem in a person’s lifetime, and if the treatment for it causes harm (e.g. radiation or chemo), then it may indeed be better to keep an eye on it rather than treat it. This is just common sense.

And yes, there are cases where a cancer should have been treated and wasn’t. However, there are also cases where a cancer was treated and shouldn’t have been. Cancer treatments can shorten lives, also.

    • Aeffesstoo

“I would rather have myself and my doctor in charge of these decisions
      than a government bureaucracy.”

Why, you must be one of those Tea Party terrorists!

3 yrs ago while visiting family in Tequila, Jalisco, MX (Tequila is about 40 miles NW of Guadalajara… wife is Mexican, I’m as white as white can be), our 12 yr old son had to undergo an emergency appendectomy. Tequila couldn’t take him, we drove him to the next nearest town of Magdalena about 25 minutes away. They performed the appendectomy at 4am, also removed 6 bloody lymph nodes….to keep it short…..3 days in the hospital…err clinic…err whatever….emergency appendectomy, lymph node removal, testing of lymph nodes in Guadalajara, medication, etc….TOTAL bill came to about $195. One-hundred-ninety-five dollars. They did an outstanding job, not a lick of English was spoken, our kid had an amazing experience and we saved an eff-load of money.
Sometimes it pays to get sick abroad.

    • laura

was it the public hospital? no way was it a private one w/the low fee. btw, they would never treat a non citizen in mex for in a public hospital. the private ones make anyone hand over a credit card right away.

      • Dan Mesa/AZ

It was the main clinic in Magdalena in Jalisco as you enter coming from Tequila. I don’t know if it was a private hospital, I don’t recall, I don’t think it was. The Dr. who was in charge of the clinic was 27 yrs old and did a great, great job and btw, they asked us if my wife had insurance, of course she didn’t, they said if so, it would have been around 70-80$ for the surgery, etc.

        • Dan Mesa/AZ

Also, we get all of our dental work done in MX, either in Tequila or we go to Caborca, Sonora, much closer. We’re going next month to Mexicali…..even closer, for braces for our 12 yr old. It’s a no brainer

        • laura

your wife is mexican? she must be a dual citizen. public hospitals are usually free if you have the insurance. if your wife was not mexican they may have not given services. i think you were @ a private clinic, but not a fancy one. they may have catered to people who were not rich, were very fair to you. most likely would have treated anyone. but honestly IF your wife was american or european the fee would be higher. (not nearly as high as a big hospital in guad.

          • Dan Mesa/AZ

She’s as Mexican as one can get….born in Tepic, Nayarit and raised in Tequila, became US citizen in 2002…dual citizenship.
This clinic probably catered to everyone, folks coming in day/night, can’t say enough about the young Dr. running the place. Having spent ample time in MX, this was not a fancy clinic by any stretch, but not a dump by MX standards. Now folks here in the US might disagree….;-) but I, the kids, and of course the Mrs., know what to expect when we go down south.

          • laura

yes i got it right. i know mex very well. im sure the fee would still be low for americans but not that low. you can always negoiate in mexico, even w/drs & dentists. as for the care, it can be very good or very bad, like anywhere else.

  • trapper

Yes, and the best place to save money is where most is spent on the disabled, elderly and chronically ill. If ObamaCare isn’t stopped we will become indistinguishable from 1935 Nazi Germany.

Having a publicly funded health system does not make you a “welfare state” In Australia we have such a thing and it works perfectly well in tandem with an opt-in private system. As long as there are properly supervised overview systems in place why not have healthy, working people paying tax for longer periods?

  • frodo

To try to limit overtreatment/overdiagnosis is not the same thing as “curing cancer by renaming it.” Nor is this an all or nothing proposition–no one’s planning to stop monitoring–only not to deploy tools that aren’t necessary when a tumor’s benign.

  • r2bzjudge

A five year survival rate. A survival rate is not a cure. It is a hope that cancer will not return. Cancer treatment is an industry. Medicine is an industry.

We have a medical / insurance / pharmaceutical cartel in this country, which is allowed to violate anti-trust laws. We have republicans supporting a private monopoly and democrats supporting a public monopoly. No party supports a free market in health care.

    • josh

my dad became a official cancer survivor in late 08, unfortunately in mid 09 me died of the cancer he was considered to have survived 6 months earlier. That’s how they pad the stats to make it seem like they are winning the “war on cancer” when really they are not even fighting it.
Since then I have researched the subject and found out just how discustingly evil the cartels you spoke of are. The only treatments they allow completely kill your immune system making it impossible to fight off anything. They never address the causes of cancer, which from all the stuff I have read is there is certain environments that cancer thrives in and some it cant live in.

I quess PV, blood cancer will now be treated less, they don’t what causes but think is most likely from over exposer to radaition! I was hurt in a acciend in 1981 & had so many exrays it would take a truck to haul them!
Now that the EPA has raised the legal levels of Radiation we may injest by air, food & water by 6000% all the new cancer cases that will be showing up in the USA will never be treated! Fukushima is a world problem & the MSM & Obama has made damn sure is not on the front page or in the bought off MSM! Well on Nov 1 tEPCO will try to remove the fuel rods from spent fuel pool 4, it one screw up the place would be lost & what we face is a nuclear disaster 15,000 times worse than it is now! No wonder they keep the lid on the dangers we face in the USA,Canada,Mexico, Europe,China & Japan! http://Jimstonefreelance.com has uncover the NRC’s lies & the EPA’s also, we as a people have been lies to for so long we have become dumbed down to the lies!
You think changing the name of cancer will stop it from killing, hell no, it will only kill more & for what? Because we have had no forn of rule of law & no one in congess who re-install it, all 3 branches are crooked, bought & paid for by the bankers, military, nuclear the army of lobbyist who own DC! That includes the AMA! The fall of the USA Economy was cauesed by the crooks in DC, Wall ST & the war machine & you will see it up close soon!

  • AprilJean

If it’s treatable – they won’t treat it. If it’s terminal they will make you comfortable while you die. Whatever happened to prevention???? Stupid American liberals. Did you really expect something good from the muslime in the White House?

Cancer is a virus. Alkalinity kills viruses. Soda water injected into the vein feeding a cancer will kill it in a few days. A soda poultice on a skin cancer will do the same. If you keep your blood alkaline, you’re protected from cancer.

    Hi,
I got the way to everybody become absolutely independent of any establishments, politics, etc. and stay absolutely healthy all the time, all life long – I got the real superfighter against any diseases on Earth – my discovery – the PCK – The T-Rex Cancer Killer – the most devastating weapon against any cancers and any infectious diseases, known or unknown on the planet – the complete prevention and cure (for those now sick) for kids and adults of any diseases – from the common cold to cancer – just an exercise for a minute a day for prevention and for 3 – 4 minutes a day for the cure – away from any vaccines, drugs, doctors, hospitals, clinics, surgeries (avoiding any slicings in our bodies), radiation and chemotherapies, etc. Nature has provided us the enormous power of being as healthy as Gods, we just gotta activate it. Cancer Killer is by far more powerful than the immune system itself, keeps it intact, while vaccines devastate it by adverse side effects. No killer viruses, bacteria, germs and cancers on Earth got any chance against the tremendous power of the Cancer Killer – they just die the moment they touch you.
The price of the T-Rex Cancer Killer for the whole world is 2,25 Trillion US Dollars (much less than the 50 Trillion Dollars, estimated by economists from the University of Chicago for the discovery of cancer cure). I accept checks of 50 Million Dollars to describe or to show the Cancer Killer personally and how one can stay absolutely healthy all the time, all life long (like a living God – just like me).
