Obama Punishes Egypt by Cancelling Military Exercise that Egypt Already Cancelled
Posted By Daniel Greenfield On August 15, 2013 @ 1:35 pm In The Point | 6 Comments
Obama blasted the Egyptian government for breaking up the Muslim Brotherhood’s terror camps where people were being tortured and murdered. He expressed no sympathy for the Egyptian soldiers and police officers brutally murdered by his Brotherhood allies.
And then he dropped the hammer. “While we want to sustain our relationship with Egypt, our traditional cooperation cannot continue as usual when civilians are being killed in the streets and rights are being rolled back. As a result, this morning we notified the Egyptian government that we are canceling our biannual joint military exercise, which was scheduled for next month.”
1. Obama had no problem continuing his relationship with Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood regime when it was rolling back rights and murdering civilians.
So Obama is not concerned with rights, but with keeping the Muslim Brotherhood in power.
2. Bright Star was already being canceled by Egypt. There was no official statement but last week it was reported that the Egyptian military wanted to cancel the exercise.
It wouldn’t be the first time. The exercise had been postponed or canceled in past years due to tensions in Egypt or the region. It would be ridiculous for it to go on now.
In 2011, that came about as a joint agreement. This time around, Obama jumped in to make it seem like he was canceling an exercise that wasn’t going to happen anyway.
