Let me guess, Ghosty: everywhere there is a terrorist, the US should have military assets and troops, right? Well, that's just what Bin Laden explicitly stated he wanted: to draw us into endless wars abroad and simply bankrupt and bleed us to death. That's how great nations become has-beens.

Let the French and other Euros do some heavy lifting for once, and wish them well.

If we fight every terrorists everywhere we will soon go bankrupt and become a second tier power. For God's sake, read some history. That's how all great powers become second rate - overextension.

The French are taking care of things just as well as they need to be taken care of for the moment.

The Obama admin has never said al Queda is finished. Panetta and Clinton warned very recently about its emergence in N. Africa, in fact.

The Joint Chief said that the biggest threat to US security is not an army or terrorist group, but our budget deficit.
 <a href="http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=65432" rel="nofollow">http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=6...</a>

We also have a military bigger than the next 10 combined, and among those 10, eight are our allies.

So, where to cut? Food stamps? Street lights? Police? Judges? Schools? Medicare? Social Security? The Military? I would say all three of the latter since they gobble up the majority of federal funds.

Uh huh. Let's forget that fact that Obama did more to damage the Taliban and Al Queda in less than four years than Bush ever did in eight, and that he's continued a relentless and deadly drone war against these groups, and he had the Seals kill bin Laden.

Other than that, he loves Islamists.

Let's just forget those facts, you psychotic toddler.

"Obama hates the West"

He hates the West as it is, and loves the West as a future source to suck wealth from, because it has all of these money trees stolen from the colonies, and from Muslims who were never colonized but were victimized by colonialism somehow.

Collectivism makes the world so simple, if that's how you want it to be.

It is just a continued advancement of the Muslim Brotherhoods' agenda in the Middle East as Obama started with his inclusion of members inside of the Nations government in Homeland Security and The White House as well as the Office of the Secretary of State. Know intelligence on the Benghazi incident even though the CIA's agents in the region had been outed, Named hunted down and killed thanks to inside information. Not to mention the 125 M1A1 tanks and supporting systems, the new F-16 fighter attack jets , and the arranged sale of two new German submarines to Egypt. Just look at all the Tax Payers Money he has sent to the region. Treason say I, he and his minions have sold the US out!

The other thing I will add is as McChrystal said about Afghanistan the US did not in the beginning have a full understanding of the country and the problems. You can see this again when they asked Algeria to send troops. Now the Algerians say to themselves, these people either do not understand our country or the region. Or if they do, they are trying to our country harm. So whatever policy the US are using on Mali and al-Qaida, there may not be malice, it could just be lack of knowledge and understanding.

He wants deep cuts at the DOD, too. So that is another reason to have a policy that says the wars are over and al-Qaida is finished. Whether the US is involved in Mali or not, if the threat is still there you have trouble getting cuts to the military.

it is not that the US does not want to be involved, they don't want anyone else involved. You had the US trained officers coupe, then Rice blocking the French plan, then even the limited assistance after the French started, first it was legal concerns why they can't help even limited, then they wanted France to pay 19 million. Having trouble get assistance from other allies, the Germans, making sure that France has trouble sending weapons. They tried to stop it and then have been hindering it. They have been calling for negotiations and even Ban at the UN say there can't be negotiations yet. You can't negotiate with al-Qaida anyway and the talks with the Taliban are a non event. So why will it be different in Mali.

It is a policy, the wars have ended, al-Qaida is finished and the terrorist in Mali are not a threat to the US. But clearly what is occurring in Mali shows that not to be the case and France have gone against that narrative, shows it not to be true. Now if no one goes into Mali, no one looks at it like Afghanistan in the 90's you can push that narrative and even if they are not a threat now like Afghanistan they will be so the Admin can kick the can down the road to the next Admin. So the current Admin can focus on domestics issues. That is what people heard the decade of war is over, gay marriage, gun laws, climate change, social issues and programs, immigration. But these are problems that all countries face, so there is more too it, see the march in France over gay marriage, they are still in Mali fighting al-Qaida. So it is not just the wish to focus at home. But is does not really matter because the Mali operation has gone ahead.

Obama has said the US can cope with another 9/11 type attack, this is not knew in the 90's al-Qaida attacked the US numerous times, the WTC, the African embassy bombings and the US did not really respond. It was only late in Clinton's Admin they started to focus on al-Qaida and Afghanistan. Lower intensity attacks you cannot respond, but al-Qaida just raise the intensity of the attacks to force a response you end up with a 9/11.

They can still use planes as missiles, if you can get on a plane with a bomb in your underpants, you can seize the cabin or blow up the plane trying.
