Obama’s Competent Incompetence

yelling1Last year, Team Obama was wallowing in praise for its election tech strategy. Its strike team of Silicon Valley pros who believed in stock options and Socialism were credited with winning the election by applying the same data tools that had made Facebook and Google so creepy.

And then when it came time to debut Obama’s signature achievement (if you don’t count wrecking the Middle East) the implementation was every bit as disastrous as if the project had been outsourced to someone’s cousin who had once taken a web design course in 1996.

The ObamaCare websites didn’t go down because of high demand. They went down because of bad design. The design on Healthcare.gov was so bad that it was almost as if the website had been designed to fail. Or as one tech expert put it, the website was so cluttered with junk that it was running a denial of service attack against itself.

It’s not too surprising that a government website would be badly designed, but Team Obama’s digital strategy had been built around using them for messaging to bypass even friendly media outlets. The content on government websites blended with the Obama campaign so closely that it was sometimes hard to tell the difference.

But that is where the border between competency and incompetence for Team Obama begins. Team Obama excels at promoting Obama and attacking Republicans. It isn’t actually good at anything else.

The left excels at one thing and only one thing; propaganda. Great products and bad marketing are a familiar business story. But what the left has is a terrible product with great marketing.

The Soviet Union could not make its agricultural policies work, but it spent enormous efforts convincing its own people and the West that those policies were working even when bread was being filled with straw and the USSR was going deep into debt buying American wheat.

Confronted with a website that didn’t work, Team Obama immediately spun straw into bread declaring that it had gone down because ObamaCare was so popular. It was a familiar narrative shift that once again put the best possible face on a disaster. The website wasn’t bad. The product was that good.

That ObamaCare disaster however was being eclipsed by an even bigger ObamaCare disaster.

Obama, who had bent over backward to negotiate with Russia and Iran, refused to negotiate with the Republicans, and began a policy of punitively closing open air memorials to veterans, evicting people from private cottages on federal lands and even attempting to barricade the ocean.

It was the same game of chicken that Obama had been playing since he took office. He would never compromise or back down on anything he wanted done. He just did it.

The Obama myth is that he is a reasonable man being blocked by unreasonable Republicans at every turn. There are plenty of things wrong with that myth, but the biggest one is that Obama isn’t being handicapped by Republican obstructionism. He seeks out and cultivates Republican opposition.

Radicals need enemies to give them meaning and to keep the troops rallied behind their latest disaster. No matter how many “Cukes, Not Nukes” bumper stickers they may paste on their Subaru bumpers; they are “Guns not Butter” types who invest all their energies into war.

The ideas of the left don’t just fail because they’re bad. They also fail because the left is more energized by hostilities than by any of the progressive programs that its leaders claim to be passionate about.

Obama isn’t a reluctant warrior. He’s a happy warrior. He cares far more about fighting Republicans than about winning amnesty for illegal aliens, gay marriage or ObamaCare—all things that he introduced haphazardly to win elections.

Obama came up with ObamaCare because he needed something to offer at a political appearance. And then it grew into the usual government monstrosity that no one can fully take in. And what goes for ObamaCare, also goes for the ObamaCare website which loads 92 files every time it loads a page.

Both ObamaCare and the ObamaCare website are bloated monstrosities that no one took the time to reduce to a manageable scale.

ObamaCare is both a planned and unplanned disaster. Its planned provisions will seriously damage health care in America, but its unplanned measures, the collision between the incompetence of its planners and legislators and the real world, may prove to be even more disastrous in the end.

The ObamaCare website took itself down. ObamaCare may do the same thing.

The Soviet Union did not really care about building Communism, a 93% successful harvest or universal literacy. Its bosses put it on a wartime footing as soon as they could and kept it that way until it bankrupted them. The one thing they really cared about was power. And once they had power over their own people, they quickly grew bored and began plotting to conquer and subdue other countries.

The left runs on conflict. It excels at propaganda because that is a vehicle for conflict. You can ask it to organize a committee to denounce American foreign policy, but don’t ask it to change a tire or bring in the crops or run a health care system. It may talk about how important it is to drive out the capitalist pigs so it can do those things, but it doesn’t actually care about doing them.

In Venezuela, Chavez’s successor, Nicolás Maduro, is obsessively picking fights with the United States even as his country teeters on the edge of economic disaster. For the Cuban trained Maduro, screaming about the Yankees is all that he knows how to do. Like Obama, he isn’t good for anything else.

The most important thing about Obama is that he is a community organizer. He has never been anything else. He is not capable of being anything else.

ObamaCare isn’t his policy achievement. It’s a pack of lies that his people came up with in time to sell him to a progressive group. The pack of lies has grown into a mountain. And now the avalanche begins.

Obama doesn’t care about the collapse of his signature policy achievement. To him ObamaCare is just another way of picking a fight with the “reactionary forces.” He’s not fundamentally any different than Nicolás Maduro or Kim Jong Il or any other backward Socialist boss who doesn’t know anything except how to pick fights.

Like them, he isn’t interested in helping people, not even in the misguided way that some liberals are. His politics and his passion are those of conflict. He doesn’t care if ObamaCare succeeds or fails. All that he cares about is using it as a weapon against the Republican Party.

    The Heritage Foundation came up with it, it was part of Dole’s platform and Romney executed it in his own state. People have been trying to get single payer health care in this country since all our allies did after WWII. The Republicans are against it because they are against anything he does…ANYTHING…it is their policy.

Especially in RED states. For example, in 2003, as part of prescription drug trade-off, for example – the GOP put Health Savings Accounts into the bill (Thank you Bill Thomas, R-CA) – much to the decree of most conservatives (govt expansion for Prescription drugs, spending, etc). Do you honestly think the GOP is for single payer? I think not – this is why bi-partisan efforts stick – and partisan laws do not. There is a trade off between private and public policy. Obamacare is 100% public expansion – 2500 pages, 20000+ new regulations – it is in the DNA of a limited Govt conscience to resist it – that has nothing to do with your premise suggesting that the GOP would actually be fighting for single payer if Bush were prez. Yeah – right. Beam me up. You’re high.

Then after accusing me of talking points because I was able to rattle off the history of this law from memory (its very well known) you proceed to use the “talking points” of the number of regulations and pages of the law? The time to debate the law is over, it’s done. Romney said he would repeal it and he lost. The Supreme Court found it constitutional.

          The law is a disaster on all levels, but some people are so blinded either by lack of knowledge or misplaced ideology that they can’t even tell a $hit sandwich when they bite into it. Ask someone standing next to you if your lips are brown will you and stop babbling about saving the biggest disaster to hit this country in a half century because the Democrats shoved it down the public’s throat on Christmas Eve.

            The Truth About the Health Care Bills

            Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of House Bill 3200:

            The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009.

            I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

            To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

            The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

            However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

            The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.

            The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

            This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, in direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

            If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However , that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

            So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn’t stop there though.

            The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;

            The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

            I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution.” If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

            No, I observe. And Obama has real problems with being told, “No.” Notice how many times he likes to remind us he won. It’s justification for him to think he gets his way. Which he stated to Boehner in a budget meeting last year.

            His negotiation style has been his way or no way. Which shouldn’t be unexpected; when he was in the Senate he had the most partisan voting record of all Senators.

            Boehner has rolled over enough times that Obama expects him to continue to do so. Unfortunately for Obama, some folks in the House and Senate decided to do what their constituents wanted them to do and they have forced Boehner to grow a pair. I don’t think Obama understands that’s the way our government was set up to work, but, considering what he has said about the Constitution, I’m not surprised.

            What it all boils down to is Obama does not understand or doesn’t care how our government is supposed to work (then again, that can be said for many past and present politicians in DC) and he has the attitude that what he says goes. What he needs to understand is that he wasn’t elected to be king. But I don’t think his ego will let that thought cross his mind.

            Again, this is just a bunch of snark. The ACA was passed legally, then it was declared constitutional by SCOTUS and Obama won an election with his opponent saying he would repeal it, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s law. It’s done.

            I don’t think you understand how our government is suppose to work. A anti-intellectual minority isn’t suppose to shut down the government because they don’t like a law. They tried to repeal it 40 + times lawfully and they couldn’t do it. The GOP and media like Fox hate government and everything it stands for. Don’t listen to the idiot progressives that have been trying to dismantle it since at least Wilson’s presidency. The government is working as designed. There are no rules that says once signed into law something like Obamacare is inviolate, if the branch of government that is supposed to handle the government’s finances wants to get rid of it they can try. Obama wants to be king and the House isn’t letting him, it’s really as simple as that.

      Just because a few, influential conservatives were pushing a single player plan back when does not mean all conservatives were behind it. The Heritage Foundation backed off their support for it, as did most of the politicians who supported it.


      You’re implication that all conservatives supported single payer years ago is roughly as true as stating that all leftists are communists. Just because a few are does not mean all are.

      obamacare was never about health care for those without it. if it had been they would have been identified and provided health insurance, and if it had to be funded most people would have supported it because obamacare is much more expensive for everyone. the proof of it is the fact that people are losing work hours, employers are struggling not to hire over 50 employees, individuals are being forced to buy something they either do not want or cannot afford and know that this is done only to pay for others. obamacare was designed to make this country into what Russia used to be and dumped years ago because it did not work. obama hates america, wants it to fail, does everything to ruin it. he stated that “we tried capitalism and it did not work”. for 200+ years USA had capitalism and it made the country the richest, strongest most prosperous country ever. but to obama this is not what he wants. he wants every one of us peons to be dependent on gov’t, and obamacare is a great way to do that. if people understand his plan hopefully they will reject it, but most of todays’ americans are low info voters who do not even try. they did not learn the history of the USA they did not see the success it was.

His appointment of two U.S. Supreme Court judges and other lesser court judges has ensured a future judicial system that trashes our Constitution and favors international laws. He has succeeded in helping the terrorist organization the Muslim Brotherhood to gain a more entrenched foothold in America while making it easier for Christians to be persecuted here and in the Muslim dominated countries in which they live and easier for the groups such as CAIR to gain more power and influence here in order to establish Sharia law. He has certainly made a mockery of the Constitution and the rule of law, both favored by his far left base. He has succeeded in diminishing the office of the president.

They are the middlemen that contribute nothing and make huge profits. Now at least, they must spend a certain amount on care. After all, who isn’t for reigning in costs? It couldn’t possibly be that the purpose was to set up a sure-to-fail system that would just be a prelude to a single-payer national healthcare system that never could have been enacted in one go. Didn’t Sen. Hatkin say that Obamacare was just a “starter house” where “the mansion” would come later? Didn’t Obama tell the SEIU that his goal was a single-payer system but it would have to be done in stages over a number of years? Why do you believe that the biggest spender ever to occupy the White House gives a fig about medical costs as opposed to, say, installing a system to give the state almost unlimited control over citizens (soon to be known as subjects)?

      6. the better than 600 million and 3 years to prepare the website enrollment is a disaster and as the enrollment times are being squeezed.

Just because a small minority of know-nothings have failed to repeal the law legally, doesn’t mean they can shut down government unless Obama repeals the healthcare law and cuts everything some more. Romney didn’t win…if he had…the Republicans would have had no problem destroying this law (that they initially invented) But, he lost…and so the will of the majority is now being obstructed by people that hate government in the first place.

    And about Benghazi…that was a CIA post in a foreign unstable country…you must have been just fumming over the real 9/11 when our entire homeland defense broke down and thousands of our people died on our own soil. Let me guess…not Bush’s fault.

Then TARP. So if you can honestly say that on each of these points you were outraged that this dictator was stripping away the constitution…then you’re selective outrage and focus is pretty cynical and self serving isn’t it? It’s also intellectually dishonest.

        So even after the sequester cuts and the deficit finally coming down, we need more cuts and Obama is suppose to kill the legislation he won reelection on. Having to negotiate and take demands everytime the government needs to get funded is something only Obama has ever had to contend with. I wonder why that is?

        I play a online video game called Warcraft III…it’s a strategy game where you play with 7 other people online. 4 to a team. It’s a really great game about building, strategy and war. Now…you can have dumb teammates…you can have noobies that can’t play very good, and you can have players that make mistakes and cost you the war, and while it sucks, that’s the way the game works. But there are TKrs (Team Killers) that have nothing better to do then attack their own team thus scuttling the game and wasting everyone’s time. You can’t do anything about it since he’s on your team. Game over.

        This is the modern GOP, because if you don’t really give a dead donkey’s kidney about government or the people you govern and you really wish the whole thing would go away and be privatized or something, then you are a team killer.

        The thing is they have broken your measure of what is reasonable to even say. You just think that going to the most extreme argument is the best. Why argue about minutia when you can scream that Obama is a dictator destroying the country.       You may be right. Obama signed the draconian bill authorizing him to seize power over essential services in case of emergency. In addition he has Dept. of Homeland Security buying about two billion hollow point bullets while he ramps up domestic surveillance. He is getting ready for crushing any possible rebellion with bloody force. All he needs to do now is to provoke riots in the street.
