Obama’s Cuts Healthcare Benefits for Marines, Leaves it Intact for Unionized Office Workers

This is another one of those issues that should have been hammered home during the campaign, and especially during the debates, but that Romney failed to really pick up on. Frontpage has been covering it extensively. It goes to the heart of Obama’s contempt for the military.

The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.

Under the new plan, the Pentagon would get the bulk of its savings by targeting under-65 and Medicare-eligible military retirees through a tiered increase in annual Tricare premiums that will be based on yearly retirement pay.

Significantly, the plan calls for increases between 30 percent to 78 percent in Tricare annual premiums for the first year. After that, the plan will impose five-year increases ranging from 94 percent to 345 percent—more than 3 times current levels.

Additionally, the critics said leaving civilian workers’ benefits unchanged while hitting the military reflect the administration’s effort to court labor unions, as government unions are the only segment of organized labor that has increased in recent years.

The administration is asking troops to get by without the equipment and force levels needed for global missions. “And now they are going to them again and asking them to pay more for their health care when you’ve held the civilian workforce at DoD and across the federal government virtually harmless in all of these cuts. And it just doesn’t seem fair,” the second aide said.

It’s wealth redistribution. Got to take away the health care from underpaid military personnel who generally vote to the right and redistribute it to unionized office workers who are more likely to vote to the left.

The military is the bane of the left, and they will do anything to destroy its hyper power. Therefore, its soldiers are targeted, and not just regarding benefits – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/12/10/another-bulls

As to the thuggish unions, well, they are the radical left's pets. Their shock troops too.

"Fundamentally change America", proclaimed by Hussein Obama and his Democrat cronies, is gradually being realized. First, weaken the US economy. Second, smear anyone who dare to reveal the truth about them and their friends, aka Islam. Third, lead the country away from God. Fourth, trying to take away law abiding citizens' tools to protect them from a tyrant and then finally weaken the US military. If they continue to play fire this way, one day they will be burnt beyond recognition.

Here is a summary of the Affordable Care Act. http://dpc.senate.gov/healthreformbill/healthbill

I am more comfortable in assessing and trusting the availabilities and outcomes from actual law than the ranting’s and ravings of conspiratorially based individuals whose focus is entirely established in rumor and innuendo. Ad hominem attacks, slander, and just plain ignorant racist based arguments against the duly elected President of the United States is nothing less than un-American.

Well, when the panel decides on who gets what treatment, you will suffer the consequences along with the rest of us "conspiratorial racists." You'll cry "Wa Wa" as I am seeing with many such fans of your duly (conspiracy perspective:um, really? e.g. What really happened to that plane carrying military votes?) elected resident of the White House. I see their childlike surprise and anxiety when a new law or regulation negatively impacts them!
      As it will.
P.S. This is probably a troll post -and a pointless one as it can only result, at best, in a delay of understanding what this healthcare law will really do to real people.

Too funny a sad way… You don't agree with the worst President in history? YOU"RE RACIST AND UN-AMERICAN!!

  • davidgowans

I've got news for you… This Tricare annual fee hike was proposed by MARINE OFFICERS in the Pentagon, not the Administration. The administration is just giving them what they've asked for. This isn't the first time they've done it either. They tried to pull this crap a few years ago to save their joint strike fighter program.

Why? Because after retirement, many Pentagon Officers involved with high-dollar projects oddly seem to find jobs at the same defense contractors that they were negotiating/working with while on active duty. It is in their interest to secure the money for their contracts instead of keeping retirees medical fees low (retiree benefits also come out of the specific services pot of money).

Doubt it? All you have to do is a little digging if you don't know people in the top brass. If you're going to take issue with something, take issue with the one-way M-F'ers that are purposely screwing their "Brothers" for personal gain.

The only thing for evil to triumph is for the good to do nothing. This President is slowly removing this country from the grip of the good Americans that worked hard to build it. It always begins with the erosion of the military.
