Sane Colorado Wants to Secede from Crazy Colorado to Form North Colorado


The Democratic abuses in Denver on energy and second amendment rights have led to all sorts of responses, from a nearly unprecedented legislative recall campaign, but now they just may be leading to secession.

Weld County commissioners on Thursday announced that they want to join other northeastern Colorado counties in forming a new state — North Colorado.

Commissioners said a “collective mass” of issues have cumulated during the past several years that isolate rural Colorado from the rest of the state and put those counties at a disadvantage.

They said they met with county commissioners at a Colorado Counties, Inc. conference earlier this week to discuss the feasibility of forming a new state, a question that would first be put to voters on the November ballot.

Commissioners said Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma and Kit Carson counties all expressed interest in the idea.

The signing of S.B. 252, which increases renewable energy standards in rural areas in a way that rural energy companies say is too costly, and an attack on the oil and gas industry from the Legislature this year were the “straws that broke the camel’s back,” commissioners said.

Weld County’s main economic drivers — agriculture and energy — are under attack, even though they fill Colorado coffers, said Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway.

Conway said Vermont, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maine, and West Virginia petitioned for statehood for similar reasons in United States history. He said just because it hasn’t been done for 150 years, doesn’t mean the proposal isn’t appropriate.

“It hasn’t been tried in a while, but we also didn’t have a Supreme Court decide the presidential election for 100 years” until the 2000 presidential election, he said.

If state and federal lawmakers approve of the new state, there would be 51 white stars on the American flag and countless questions.

Under guidelines in the U.S. Constitution, North Colorado would have to get the consent of the Colorado General Assembly and the U.S. Congress to move forward with forming its own state.

Just imagine a North Colorado that actually does something useful and a South Colorado that spends money and passes restrictive laws basically making it California. Speaking of which, can the United States just secede from D.C.?

            Jefferson had a noble idea when he proposed a country of gentry farmers. Back then a country of farmers would have been indefensible but putting them in charge today would probably work.             West Virginia elected its own legislature; they held the Wheeling Convention and formally seceded from Virginia. There was another convention over the issue of Virginia’s secession from the Union, and the West Virginia secession from Virginia was upheld. The new state applied for statehood and the federal government granted the application.
            There was not, to my knowledge, any issue that worried the federal government, about West Virginia’s constitutional power to secede and form its own state. The West Virginia legislature was concerned about seceding from Virginia before Virginia actually declared that it had seceded from the Union.

            follow the money is correct. the farmers sell their products which eventually wind up at walmart & grocery stores, etc.

            walmart shows 40% of their grocery sales are from food stamps. that means if you eliminate food stamps, you also eliminate 40% of the revenue that is being used to purchase farm goods.

            which would run even more small farmers and grocery stores out of business.

            it is amusing that you post data that supports how farmers receive subsidization and are not able to comprehend what you posted.

            the real answer is decent paying jobs. no more cheap labor immigrants.

We are normal and not rich but very practical in our philosophy of life. Deep Southern Illinois would have done it years ago if they could have gotten just a modicum of support, or glomped themselves onto Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri.

Every US CITIZEN is losing freedom one day and vote at a time. North Colorado is a dream coming true, a second chamce for all of us farmers in not just Colorado but all over the Union. The goverent has been screwing us over for too long and of you liberal butt wads are too dumb to see it.     As a native Coloradan, I’ve lived in several Cities close to Denver, and now in Weld County, the reason northern Coloradans are upset is because we are experiencing an energy boom. There are oil and gas wells everywhere here. The progressive politicians in Denver want our tax money from that new energy and Weld County is filling their Coffers.Weld also produces probably enough food to feed the entire state. Denver politicians want our tax money, and as all liberals do, they enact job killing regulations on energy and other types of businesses but don’t want to fix our highways or infrastructure. The people in Northern Colo. don’t want Pothead politicians telling them how to run their businesses and farms.

    In 1941 there was a “patriotic rebellion” of the counties in Northern California and Curry County in Southwestern Oregon. They proposed to form the aptly named state of “Jefferson” but WWII burst on the scene and all the counties involved joined the war effort. There are still signs in NOCAL that welcome visitors to Jefferson.

    My guess is that the chances of the CO Assemby and Congress approving secession is near zero.
    Coloradoans should try, yes, but to restore sanity in the state they should continue to aggressively recall the Progressive vermin currently dominating their government.
    If they stick together, these counties can also nullify or otherwise ignore stupid and destructive Progressive state laws emanating from Denver.
    Also, don’t know the population of those counties expressing interest in seceding, but the brainwashed in the state may very well outnumber them.
    So, recall and local resistance may be their best bets to restore sanity.
