Saudis Offer Russia OPEC Membership, Terror Immunity for Olympics

Russia's President Putin and Secretary General of Saudi Arabia's National Security Council Prince Bandar Bin Sultan meet in Moscow

The Saudis are certainly beginning to throw their weight around in a big way. It helps that America has been out to lunch since 2008. Still this time they might be biting off more than they can chew.

Russia is being offered a nice deal, but taking it will mean admitting that it’s no longer a world power. Russia isn’t really a world power anymore, but it can’t afford to come out and say so. And letting the Saudis call the shots to this extent would do it.

Russia would be sacrificing its Shiite axis for promises of money and protection from Saudi Arabia. I don’t see Putin taking that deal. Russia is corrupt and a pseudo-OPEC coordination would be a major bailout with the shale threat. And that even puts Russia and Saudi Arabia in the same boat, but the Saudis showing up and telling Russia that they can call off Chechen terror attacks is a blatant power play.

Prince Bandar, head of Saudi intelligence, allegedly confronted the Kremlin with a mix of inducements and threats in a bid to break the deadlock over Syria. “Let us examine how to put together a unified Russian-Saudi strategy on the subject of oil. The aim is to agree on the price of oil and production quantities that keep the price stable in global oil markets,” he said at the four-hour meeting with Mr Putin. They met at Mr Putin’s dacha outside Moscow three weeks ago.

The talks appear to offer an alliance between the OPEC cartel and Russia, which together produce over 40m barrels a day of oil, 45pc of global output. Such a move would alter the strategic landscape.

As-Safir said Prince Bandar pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord. “I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us,” he allegedly said.

Prince Bandar went on to say that Chechens operating in Syria were a pressure tool that could be switched on an off. “These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role in Syria’s political future.”

President Putin has long been pushing for a global gas cartel, issuing the `Moscow Declaration’ last to month “defend suppliers and resist unfair pressure”. This would entail beefing up the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), a talking shop.

Mr Skrebowski said it is unclear what the Saudis can really offer the Russians on gas, beyond using leverage over Qatar and others to cut output of liquefied natural gas (LGN). “The Qataris are not going to obey Saudi orders,” he said.

Saudi Arabia could help boost oil prices by restricting its own supply. This would be a shot in the arm for Russia, which is near recession and relies on an oil price near $100 to fund the budget.

So typically for the region, the Saudis are promising things they can’t deliver on. They can’t really control Al Nusra, not to the extent of preserving Russia’s naval base.

The Saudis fund terrorism and they may be able to spread enough money around to keep the Chechens out of the Olympics, but that’s a one off that anyone can do.

And any energy arrangements will shift on a dime when it becomes convenient.

But this is significant because the Saudis are taking America’s place on the world stage. It was bad enough when the House of Saud controlled American foreign policy. But now they’re not even bothering to use American diplomats as intermediaries. They’re acting like a world power.

As a Canadian, I am just a little curious how the Saudi’s can say the Russian Olympics will be terror-free. Does the home of Osama B.L control world terrorism? If so, why does Hussein Obama insist America buy Saudi oil instead of Canadian oil- steady, cheap supply from a friendly neighbour? Just wondering.

First off, much outrage that the Saudis can guarantee a terrorist free event but have no desire to offer that to the rest of the world. Are they saying join us in the fight against the West and we will give you a bye? What did the Saudi’s offer America regarding the Chechnya Boston Marathon bombing?

Second, the US mostly imports oil from Canada and Mexico for it’s own usage already. The majority of Middle East oil that is shipped to the US is done so because of the US refinery capacity.

Third, If the US would abandon our tree huggers (while promoting tree hugging technological research), the money flowing into these terrorists would reduce to the point that they would have to cut back operations.

Fourth, haven’t heard much of a terrorist threat against the Russian Olympics. The big hubbub in America re the Olympics is the Russian attitude about not allowing gay parades. If anything, the Islamic society already support that.

Every gay “family” contributes nothing to society, certainly no children. I don’t count “stocking” gay unions with other people’s kids. Homosexuality has contributed to more than one nations downfall. Putin, unhindered by PC, knows this, whereas in the West we aren’t allowed to say that- the baby makers win eventually. Why do you think Islamic mullahs encourage polygamy- more soldiers. THAT is what the fem-Nazi,abortions for all, was all about. All these Satanic groups are comming together now, and all their Satanically inspired purposes are interwoven to bring down a once-righteous country.

      • MekNes

Just because your ignorant and don’t due any research does not mean the threat does not exist. Also if you would of done a simple search you would of seen the that several groups have threaten the 2014 winter Olympics and want to turn into a blood bath.

Yes, I hear you. It’s just that Canada needs to sell it’s oil to someone. Why should we in Canada just sit on one of earth’s largest oil reserves, like around a hundred years worth. By that time man will have mastered the atom, but we need the Energy from oil in the meantime. “Islamic society” are ORDERED to kill us all in the koran. The Spirit of Truth has no partnership with the spirit of error.

herb benty. You must be a hard core zionist, or an islamophobe who lives by paddling lies against Islam and Muslims. How can you say things which you know to be untrue (or that which can be easily verifiable by readers) against a religion dear to almost 2 billion people of different colours all over the world without a twinge of guilt? Do you have any conscience?

          • herb benty

Zionism: believing God in the Holy Scriptures, when He said the land of Israel belongs to the Jews. And the fullfillment of those prophecies commencing in 1948. There is nothing “hard core” about this. Akida, in light of the fact Muslims are responsible for over 90% of the terrorism, desecration and general Horror in this world, please define, “Islamophobe”. I picked up a couple Korans at the Library and saw for myself the hatred in Islam for Jews, Christians and “Infidels”, AND the specific admonitions from “allah” to murder them all. And do not play the” religion of peace” card.

          • Akida

Islam is the religion of peace. Read your Bible from cover to cover and then read the Koran from cover to cover and then tell me which of the two books is (1) more divinely (2) has better instructions for their adherents to be peaceful, be extra merciful not only to human beings but to all and everything that has been created by God. (And for God’s sake do not read a translation of the Koran written by an evangelist.)
With regard to terrorism, it seems that you have chosen to be willfuly blind to real terrorism perpetrated by the Israelis in Palestine and everywhere else, and the American terrorism unleashed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and now in Syria. Have you forgotten that the paradigm of “terrorism” was invented by the Khazar Jews who had illegally immigrated to Palestine under the brutal ideology of Zionism. Why don’t you educate yourself on Zionism by reading the following books: (1) The Hidden History, Zionism and Anti-Semitism by Henry Makow; (2) The Invention of the Jewish People by Shlomo Sand; (3) The invention of the Land of Israel by Shlomo Sand — who is a professor of History at the University of Tel Aviv.

Go back to your mosk and tell the mullet we aren’t listening to your garbage anymore…thats a good boy! The Judeo-Chritian Faith is of God. Islam is a demon inspired lie. Ya, Kill jews, Christians and Infidels as muslims do everyday. Israel defends herself from murder-worshipers. There are self-hating Jews that don’t know their arse from a hole in the ground, ie., S. Sand and others. Steath jihad is over, we are now watching Islam closely. Goodnight.

As a well-traveled Canadian, I would say that their strategy is to use up as much foreign oil as possible while they can. Canadian oil is not really Canadian oil. It’s probably domestic oil, in their thinking. Harper has been their guy since the late 90′, as I recall. Sadly, while the US is Big Brother, we might be more like, Little Sister rather than friendly neighbor.

      • herb benty

Phil, hard to catch your drift! Ya but Trillions of US dollars are going to terror supporters/ commies instead of keeping the money in North America( Canada buys American stuff and would buy a lot more if KeystoneXL was approved). Harper is an openly friend of Israel, God Bless him, who realizes how Canadian oil will benefit Canada and the USA. Ya, Obama is making that, “twisted sister”…..Ha! Ha!

  • Mohi Hashmi

Saudis please now tell which terror groups you control in Pakistan. Iran should also open up on their terrorist practices in Pakistan. And a majority of stupid Pakistanis are fed the rhetoric that Saudi and Iran are ideal ‘societies’.

Russia is not the U.S. government we do not sell ourselves like that to the Saudi oil. It is great actually to see how the Saudis do not rely on America for their delegations since they know that the U.S. is not excatly in the best position. I have been saying this for years the U.S. needs to take care of their problems first. Detroit once a great city is bankrupt, mass shootings are taking place left and right, and the wonderfull people of NASA took huge budget cuts, so in the end its pretty much more cops, less teachers. I would to see U.S. back is it was a long time ago, when things where manufactured their and the government did not sell out to Saudi Oil. Nothing against the great people that reside in the U.S., I just strongly disagree with their governments tactics and think that it is their downfall.

Anyways, I support Assad and Russia.
