Saudis Announce They’re Going to Arm Al-Qaeda

The Saudis are not happy that the infidel American mercenaries have yet to be deployed in Syria. The House of Saud has gotten used to assuming that the United States will jump when their fattest member tells them to.

Unfortunately for the Saudis, their buddy Barack got a case of cold feet about bombing Syria when the UK pulled out and the American public appeared to be slightly more enthusiastic about naming Somalia the 51st state than invading yet another country for the Saudis.

And the Saudis, the guardians of Mecca and Medina, keepers of the keys to American foreign policy and protectors of the oil embargo, responded with all the grace and dignity you would expect.

They threw a fit and announced that they weren’t going to the UN Security Council seat because the Council wouldn’t endorse bombing Syria. When that didn’t work, they announced that they’re going to stop fake-cooperating with the United States in preventing weapons from going to the really bad people in Syria.

Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief told European diplomats this weekend that he plans to scale back cooperating with the U.S. to arm and train Syrian rebels in protest of Washington’s policy in the region, participants in the meeting said.

Now don’t get the idea that Saudi Arabia is going to scale back arming Jihadists in Syria. They’re going to scale back not arming Jihadists.

Prince Bandar, who is leading the kingdom’s efforts to fund, train and arm rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, invited a Western diplomat to the Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah over the weekend to voice Riyadh’s frustration with the Obama administration and its regional policies, including the decision not to bomb Syria in response to its alleged use of chemical weapons in August.

“This was a message for the U.S., not the U.N.,” Prince Bandar was quoted by diplomats as specifying of Saudi Arabia’s decision to walk away from the Security Council membership.

And the message is, “Do what we tell you or we’ll stamp our little feet and stop pretending that we aren’t arming terrorists.”

Bandar told them he intends to roll back a partnership with the U.S. in which the Central Intelligence Agency and other nations’ security bodies have covertly helped train Syrian rebels to fight Mr. Assad, Prince Bandar said, according to the diplomats.

The purpose of the fake cooperation was to prevent weapons from going directly to Al Qaeda. The weapons however kept going to Al Qaeda because Turkey and the Qataris are supporters of Al Qaeda. And the Saudis gave birth to Al Qaeda.

So no more fake cooperation.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met in Paris on Monday with Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al Faisal. Officials familiar with the meeting said Mr. Kerry urged the Saudis to reconsider their U.N. decision but said Prince Saud didn’t raise Prince Bandar’s concerns. Officials said this may suggest that there are divisions within the monarchy about how to pressure the U.S. to play a more hands-on role.

Any Saudi who passes up a chance to pressure John Kerry, the man with a spine of jello, really isn’t in the game 100 percent. But it’s good to know that the Saudis are debating how to make America do what it wants.

It’s good to have such close allies.

Maybe if Obama goes back and bows to the Saudi king some more, this diplomatic crisis will work itself out.
