SEIU Staff Votes to Go on Strike

“So nat’ralists observe, a flea Hath smaller fleas that on him prey,” Jonathan Swift wrote, “And these have smaller fleas to bite ‘em.
And so proceeds Ad infinitum.”

So too unions have an infinite number of unions within the unions to strike against the unions.

In San Francisco, SEIU staff, represented by the left-wing Communications Workers of America, has been without a contract since their contract expired last September.

After several cancelled negotiating sessions between the two sides, CWA last week called for a strike authorization vote that was approved by 94 percent of voting members.

SEIU Local 1021 organizers, researchers, negotiators, and other professional staff, represented by Communication Workers of America Local 9404, have been without a contract since last fall and they’re resisting concessions to their pensions and health care benefits that President Roxanne Sanchez and her leadership team are seeking.

The interesting question is who represents CWA’s professional staff. It appears to be a union dedicated to representing CWA union workers (Yes, it is just like the Matrix) And what happens if the unions that represent workers within the unions go on strike and what happens if the staff that represents the workers who work for the unions that represent the workers who work for unions go on strike?

At some point all of this is going to create a black hole that will swallow up the entire economy and spit out an entire class of workers whose only skill is picketing.

Oh wait, those are non-union workers.

The question then is whether the CWA picketers picketing SEIU are unionized or not?

Does that mean we don't have to pay them? They look like snakes eating their own tail.
