Should Obama be Impeached if He Goes to War Without Congress?

impeach obama

The media buzz says that Obama is meeting with security officials and planning the release of a report claiming that the Assad regime was behind the chemical weapons attack.

Meanwhile the UN team has yet to be allowed to finish its job or to even investigate who was behind the attack. That’s richly hypocritical coming from the party that spent 2002 shrieking, LET THE UN INSPECTORS FINISH THEIR JOB.

Apparently letting the UN do its job is one of those rules that only applies to Republicans.

Obama ordered a declassified report be prepared for public release before any military strike commences. That report, top advisers tell CBS News, is due to be released in a day or two.

There was no debate at the Saturday meeting that a military response is necessary. Obama ordered up legal justifications for a military strike, should he order one, outside of the United Nations Security Council.

It’s nice that there’s no debate.

Polls show the American people decisively opposed to Obama’s Syrian War. The UN is not likely to approve his unilateral and illegal attack. And most importantly, there is no mention of Obama asking Congress for a resolution to approve the use of force.

For the second time in his administration, Obama will fight an illegal war without Congress. As in Libya, he will keep a few key friendly senators in the loop. A White House official has as much as admitted that saying that Obama will “consult Congress” not ask it for a resolution to authorize the use of force. And he’ll eventually give a speech to Americans. And that’s it.

Obama did it once and got away with it. He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it twice.

During the debates, he blatantly lied to the American people telling them that he didn’t want any more foreign wars and that he would focus on nation building at home.

His new war is wildly unpopular. There is no better chance to hold him accountable on an issue that even many on the left would agree with.

Obama’s complete disregard of the law and his insistence on imperial government makes such a confrontation both necessary and inevitable. And this would be one of the best places for such a confrontation. The impeachment would not succeed, but it would force a debate on Obama’s abuses of power.

Before the election, Obama said, “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

He knows his actions are illegal. He was against them, before he was carrying them out.

Last year, Congressman Walter Jones submitted a resolution to impeach Obama if he illegally attacks Syria without receiving approval from Congress.

Expressing the sense of Congress that the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution.

Whereas the cornerstone of the Republic is honoring Congress’s exclusive power to declare war under article I, section 8, clause 11 of the Constitution: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is the sense of Congress that, except in response to an actual or imminent attack against the territory of the United States, the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress violates Congress’s exclusive power to declare war under article I, section 8, clause 11 of the Constitution and therefore constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution.

The resolution was cosponsored by a variety of figures like Louie Gohmert to Dennis Kucinich. It may be time to pick it up again. If we’re going to confront Obama’s lawlessness, let’s do it here.

Let’s force the media to spend its credibility defending a war that the vast majority of Americans oppose and defending the right of Obama to unilaterally go to war against the wishes of Congress and the American people.

Let’s stop playing around with the small stuff and cut right to the chase. We either have a Republic or a Monarchy. We either have checks and balances and the rule of law… or the whim of a handful of powerful men using their media empires and fortunes to manipulate ignorant voters into writing them blank checks for their lawlessness in periodic elections.

This is the most important conversation that we need to have about the future of this country. Impeachment will force us to have it.

Should Obama be Impeached if He Goes to War Without Congress?
Absolutely. Obama has NO Constitutional powers to unilaterally wage war!

At the very least, Republicans have got to start speaking out about this and explicitly declare that Obama has no authority to take the country to war.

In my reading of the news it appears that the world in in a run up to a
Third World War. The sequence of events is so similar to the events
prior to the initiation of the First and Second World Wars.

All it will take now is some idiot who would rather commit a murder than finish his sandwich.

Obama has claimed powers that King George III never had.

But the first African American president is immune from impeachment because of his race and the left’s control of the media and culture.

    • D_boy

Well we better try than believe this defeatist attitude. How many millions are willing to plug up the streets of their capitals to but this fraud Obummer down and out. He has already earned his impeachment with empowering the Muslim brotherhood a terrorist org. Since it’s founding. And we didn’t say doo doo. It’s time America starts protesting OBama, the terrorist supporter. The treason of it all, now he is supporting Al Quida in Syria. Bull!

Obama doesn’t care how many of our military personnel are killed or maimed for life. Most of them are white because there are no other jobs for white men in today’s racist America. He didn’t rescue those people in Benghazi because all of them were white. If there had been even one black there he would have moved heaven and earth to rescue him. He is feeding our military personnel into the Islamic killing machine as fast as he can. As soon as he completely dismantles what is left of our military or depletes the number of soldiers by ordering them to fight to save Muslims, who hate out guts, we will be ready for his Brotherhood to take over and force all of us to obey their Sharia law. My guess is he is tryi8ng to get this done before his term ends so he can be installed as Caliph of America for life.

  • truebearing

That would be yet another reason to impeach Obama. This list is getting long.

The first thing that has to happen is for patriotic members of the Armed Forces to refuse to obey illegal orders. Maybe the top ranks don’t care, but there have to be large numbers of rank and file who don’t believe in this tyranny. Here’s where we need some “community organizing” to get the message across to them.

    • Bowserb

Fay, you’ve clearly. not served in the military. What you suggest will never happen. The closest there will be to that kind of insubordination will be when the troops are going door to door confiscating our guns and arresting those who do not comply. A small number of those soldiers may desert rather than carry out that assignment. As to Syria, they get orders and they go.

  • knowshistory

be realistic. the muslim is part black. he cannot be criticized–ask the Missouri clown about that–and he cannot be charged, tried, or convicted of crime. we must endure the entire 8 years we voted for, no matter what he does to wreck our country to benefit muslims. if the messiah was caught negotiating with major andre to sell west point, we would decide that we really don’t need west point. there was only one thing that he could have done to get impeached–tip off bin ladin about the raid–and so the canny muslim let his buddy osama take one for the team.

This administration absolutely has to be brought to heel, the arrogance and conceit displayed daily has to be confronted. I wrote to my Congressman, Bill Young of Florida 13th District and received this reply, in part:

“On July 24th, the House approved the Fiscal Year 2014 Defense Appropriations Bill that I authored in my role as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on National Defense. H.R. 2397 passed on a bipartisan 315 – 109 vote following an open process where 100 amendments were considered on the House Floor.

Included in this measure was an amendment , which passed unanimously, that prohibits the use of any funds with respect to military action in Syria without consulting Congress as required by the War Powers Resolution .”

So Congress is committed to forcing the President to get approval before any funds can be expended. We will see if John Boehner has any guts whatsoever. I urge all of you to tell your Congressman to oppose this intervention. If any of you think that we can go in, drop a few bombs and that will be the end of it you are sorely mistaken. BS like this can start a nuclear war.

  • Floyd Pink

No he should not. don’t you know he’s black? Isn’t that amazing? wow.

  • Randy Townsend

Yes, but not just for this: Regan wanted the Line Item Veto. The SC said “No. Bills are signed into law or vetoed in whole, as per the Constitution.” Obama has acted like a King, abusing his “authority” to arbitrarily decide which laws/portions of laws are to be ignored/not enforced/delayed. To think this Congress will act against this man is laughable, but they should.

  • Robert

Last I heard a war with Syria only has like a 10% approval rating, that’s lower than Vietnam. If any part of the government goes against the will of 90% of the country there is a serious problem.

  • delashmit

If Obama goes to war with Syria without Congressional approval, he will be impeached. He will not get Congressional approval and Great Britain will not be involved in a war with Syria as they have already announced. Obama will be in this on his own with no support from anyone.

  • ngcfla

If he can’t be impeached, he should at least go on vacation until his term runs out, Joe Biden can step in and run the executive office. You could be out there on the links everyday in the 57th state at tax payers expense. Such a deal.
