Somalis in America Sympathize with Somali Pirates, Not Americans

This man is the real victim

This man is the real victim

Clearly this is a problem that only can be solved with more Somali settlers moving out of the Midwest and into coastal states. And then Americans can finally experience Somali piracy without going anywhere near Africa.

These people are not Americans. They have no interest in being Americans. They’re sponging off America while sympathizing with Somali pirates. They’re no different than the Muslim terrorist supporters who move to Jersey City and send money to the Taliban.

Somalis living in Knoxville — and across the country — are anxious about the new negativity being circulated around the world by the actions of a few. The forecast isn’t getting any easier.

No other groups gets this treatment. This “backlash whining” in front of every story and after every crime. Now talking about Somali piracy, like talking about Muslim terrorism, becomes a hate crime that makes the poor dears feel unwelcome.

Hollywood is rolling out a brand new blockbuster movie — “Captain Phillips,” starring Tom Hanks — that depicts the Maersk Alabama hijacking.

So let’s hear the response from patriotic Somali-Americans.

“The reason these guys are becoming pirates is because their livelihood is fishing, but international companies come and fish in Somalia’s (territorial) waters illegally because the (Somali) government can’t control it,” Sudi Issak, 22, said in an interview last week.

“And other companies also come and dump tons of chemicals and waste off Somalia’s coastline. So what are these people supposed to do? Somalia is war torn and other companies steal hundreds of millions of dollars of fish every year. I think it’s shady that these issues are never really addressed. It’s not like these people just wake up one day and say, ‘Oh, I’m going to be a pirate today.’ ”

Her sister, Kowsar, 19, added: “And what can they do about it? Half of them are like my age — 17, 18, 19. The negative depiction of Somalis — or African-indigenous people in general — in movies or media, particularly in the role of savage antagonist, is not new with the release of ‘Captain Phillips,’ but I hope that the public will research the issue further to uncover the truth.”

The truth is that both of these siblings should be back home in Somalia dodging bullets and hyenas. Instead the United States took them in only to be repaid with the expected treachery.

The whole ‘fishing’ nonsense and the chemicals nonsense is pathetic propaganda. The ships that Somali pirates attack carry cargo. They don’t fish. They don’t dump chemicals. They try to avoid Somali as much as they can.

Both women are students at the University of Tennessee and are Memphis residents. But Sudi was born in Kismayo, Somalia, a southern port city, while Kowsar was born in Memphis. They also have a brother at UT — Abdinasir. After their family left Somalia in the 1990s, they were first refugees in Kenya before heading to the southern African country Zambia, which is where Abdi was born. From there, a Catholic church from Memphis helped arrange their relocation to the West Tennessee city, which is where their family, including their parents, now call home.

Isn’t that great.

Abdi, 20, interviewed Tuesday, said, “With the emergence of the recent events concerning the Kenya mall attacks, pirate activity in the Indian Ocean and the subsequent film ‘Captain Phillips’ set to be released, I fear that Somalis in the U.S. and all over the world will be … disparaged by these and past events. I only hope that the rising defamation of my nation’s people will decline, (along) with the violence corresponding to it.”

If Somalis don’t want their broken burning Islamist hellhole disparaged, they should fix it. Instead most of them have left to sponge off other countries while carrying out terrorist attacks, engaging in assorted crime and whining incessantly.

The best evidence that the descriptions of Somali are true is that the likes of Abdi don’t want to go back home there.

Sudi added: “There are some stereotypes. It started after 9/11…  And it’s mostly about Islamophobia than Somali-phobia.” ‘we are not some kind of monsters’

Those who support monsters are monsters.

Khadra Baskin, an administrator with the Department of Equity and Diversity at UT who was married to a retired U.S Army serviceman before his untimely death this year, doesn’t care for the way Hollywood has depicted Somalis. She saw the movie “Black Hawk Down” and said there were several aspects of it that were inaccurate.

“We are not all animals,” Baskin, 52, said on Wednesday. “Somalis by far are the most kind, loving human beings. But they made us look like we are always ready to kill. Sometimes I think Americans are really so naive. They really don’t get the whole picture — and I’m not calling them stupid. But sometimes when you don’t open your eyes to the world, you don’t see the whole truth. And I’m not defending these extremists, but you have to ask yourself questions that need to be asked.”

Sure, let’s ask the questions.

Why were huge numbers of Somalis imported into America? Why are the likes of Khadra Baskin given useless jobs at taxpayer expense so they can sympathize with “extremists” while bashing America?

Americans are so naive. Time to get the whole picture and open their eyes. Before the next attack.

If they dumped tons of chemicals should not there be

1 fish kills washing up on the beach
2 trace amounts still present in the ocean sediment along the Somali littoral?

    (1) Every Somali has a darn gun but none have cameras.
    (2) The UN using WHO could send chemists and take samples to see if there was dumping under armed escort of course.

  • A Z

If it were not for the world opening up their countries 1/2 the Somalis in existence would now be dead. The refugees would have been killed by their country men or killed others for food or land.

    We get accusations for Thanks.

There is no parallel in the the Goths asking for refuge in the Roman Empire. the Goths had a very large and prosperous country. They were attacked by outsiders, the Huns. The Goths had a civilization.

The Somalis were not attacked by outsiders. They destroyed their own country. During a civil war they experienced a drought. the UN stepped in and provided relief aid for drought victims and the freaking clans used the drought aid as a weapon. It was not some warlords. It was the clans that did it. With a warlord you can point to one person. These were whole clans like the Habr Gidr getting together and deciding how to force the submission of other clans to their will be stealing UN food and denying it to other clans.

The are the people that Catholic Social Services and Lutheran Social Services and other NGOs brought in.

With Catholic Social Services and Lutheran Social Services bring in psychopaths and getting paid by the U.S. government to do so, we do not need any supposed Jewish conspiracies. There are no conspiracies. There are just these stupid people in social services and stupid politicians. This all out in the open.

    • Jericho7

I sure do agree with you, with EVERYTHING you posted. One more thing: the Lutheran and Catholic Social Services have for YEARS, been bringing in people from various poor countries; ALL of them poor, most of them from countries blatantly hostile, even dangerous to America, then helping them to assimilate into this country. Some of these people come here and immediately, somehow, get social security checks. I once worked in clinics that were a part of the health department and these same social service agencies (the Catholics & the Lutherans) marched and paraded these people into the clinics on a very regular basis and they would not have sense enough to keep the checks in their pockets but would come into the area with the checks in their hands. Then they make sure they get free education, housing, medical, and anything else they need while our people wait and wait for the same entities to decide to allow them to finally become “certified” to receive the same services that are readily and speedily handed over to our enemies who’ve been brought over or crashed our borders on their own.

I couldn’t believe that our tax dollars were being given so freely to people just off the boat or plane, or the border crashers when people who’ve lived and worked here all along, paying taxes almost all their lives, many times have problems getting the same kind of benefits they’ve paid into (and I’m not talking about the dead-beat element of our countrymen).

      • Micha_Elyi

We saw the same Parade of the Handouts when Evangelicals brought over the Russian Mafia and their broods to the USA.

    • Drakken

That is why I tell folks never ever give your charity to Catholic or Lutheran relief Services period. As one of those who was in Somalia twice in my service to the Marine Corps, every time I see one of those skinnies, it is one I missed.

  • Jericho7

Why is it that every refugee, every illegal alien, everybody we allow to come into this country has the nerve to criticize our every move? Don’t like it Muslims, Mexicans, Somalians, and anybody else with a complaint, go on back home and leave us alone.

    • Kirk Parker

Please don’t overstate your case. I know dozens of “lost boys of Sudan” refugees that were resettled in my area, and not one of them has anything particularly bad to say about America; most of them love it. I spent a couple of weeks in South Sudan earlier this year, and everybody there I met thought America was great, too. Ponder what the difference is…

      • JohnSkookum

South Sudan is Christian, and does not engage in piracy or other armed attacks against its neighbors, except in self defense. It has nothing to do with Somalia.

  • Veracious_one

The ships that Somali pirates attack carry cargo. They don’t fish. They don’t dump chemicals. They try to avoid Somali as much as they can.
are you trying to confuse those Islamic Somali baggage carriers with hard cold facts? Listening to facts is Un-Islamic…

  • Seek

Never forget the role of Lutheran Resettlement Services in all this. You have them to thank for bringing over tens of thousands of Somali “refugees” to the Twin Cities area. Why are well-meaning Christians so naive about these things?

As the French say: “It is worse than a crime. It is a blunder.”

    • FrancisChalk

What makes you think they are “well-meaning Christians?” The Christian Left is dangerous and subversive–very Marxist in their views. Remember this permanent, rock-solid fact: ALL Leftists are Leftists first, Christians, environmentalists, feminists, democrats, etc… second–a distant second.

  • Sunray

The sad thing is that many soft headed people in the western soft headed democracies, actually believe this dangerous propaganda. Here in Australia, if people rely on Free to Air TV for their information, they are left sympathising with the barbarians, not their victims. The bought and paid for (Gov Tax Exemptions) commercial channels and the ABC (Government) are just as bad as the BBC.

  • Well Done

Notice a definite trend: Moslems from various deranged backwaters come to the West…not just America… and defend their homeland. They blame the country they moved to. They lie. They equivocate. And, they send money back to their trigger-happy rag-wearing buddies back in shoot-the-civilian land. WHO are the bureaucrats making the high level directives that allows these people to come to our countries? People like the women quoted in this article are waging holy war against the West. All they lack is the AK-47 and the rag covering their face.

    • defcon 4

What muslime state isn’t a “deranged backwater”?

  • defcon 4

AK-47’s and RPG’s, the islam0fascist fashion accessories that never go out of style, for the discriminating Somali or Afghani jihadist.

Mass immigration IS liberalism. It is done by the naïve do-gooders and the career leftists, who desire to change the country politically by changing the population.

  • Dallas25305

Somali’s are some of the most racist and violent troublemakers on the planet. The arrogant racist pig Hussien Obama wants to flood the nation with as much of this type of trash as possible. Why? His hatred for white people. Just read some of his quotes. His actions in the Black Panthers stopping whites from voting in Phillie. His nod to the Black Power racist street gangs to attack whites, during his injecting himself into the Trayvon incident. You notice they have been following Obama wishes.

    • Clare

I listened to an interview with Michele Bachman a few weeks ago from her home state of MN. This topic came up and the Senator said that it’s the UN and the US Department of State that decide where the immigrants go. And the individual States have no say in the matter. Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services and World Relief and so on receive a bounty for each immigrant they sign up. I think that she said that MN has the second largest population of Somalians outside of Somali.
Mr. Greenfield has written on this. If I remember correctly, he rightly called this “forced artificial immigration”.

  • Demittry

Instead of dodging hyenas back in their homeland, here in America, Somalis can run with hyenas at the Department of Equity and Diversity.

This is not the first group of Somalis here funding terrorists
Around 15,000 of them here are living better through the American Taxpayers,
    than many Americans paying taxes.
San Diego jury convicts 4 Somali immigrants of providing to support to terrorist group

    February 22, 2013

A federal jury in San Diego on Friday convicted four Somali immigrants — including an imam from a local mosque — of conspiring to funnel money to a terrorist group in their native country.

After a three-week trial and three days of deliberations, the jury convicted the four men of conspiring to raise and send money to Somalia’s al-Shabaab. The men coordinated fundraising efforts and sent nearly $9,000 to al-Shabaab between 2007 and 2008, prosecutors said.

The U.S. Department of State designated al-Shabaab a terrorist group in 2008, saying it was responsible for targeted civilian assassinations and bombings in Somalia. Federal prosecutors have since cracked down on the group’s U.S. support with the arrests of some two dozen people.

Those convicted Friday include 40-year-old Mohamed Mohamed Mohamud, who prosecutors said used his connections as a popular imam at a mosque in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood to raise money for the group.

  • PG

They send a lot of money home. Mostly they are on benefits, so that is taxpayers’ money going to Somalia. Of course then they are so poor here they ask for help from private charities. The remittance money flowing from our countries to theirs must be massive.

  • ObamaYoMoma

Just curious…can anyone cite just one specific example out of the millions of Muslim immigrants that have migrated to the infidel world that have actually assimilated and matriculated into becoming productive and contributing members of their new host infidel societies?

    • Lee Reynolds

There are plenty where I work.

      • ObamaYoMoma

And the moon is made of cheese too!

    • NavyVet32

Myself. I was born to Somali immigrants and I am a proud US Navy veteran.

      • ObamaYoMoma

Really? Are you also a devout slave of Allah?

        • Srs

Wow such respect u show for an American service member. Go die.

  • Truth

If you are proud to be a Somalian then go back to Somalia.
Clearly you are shameful of your country that’s why you want to escape.

  • Homple

The problem with Somalia is Somalis, and these problems seem to migrate with them.

  • David Govett

Remember that many (most?) German-Americans supported Adolph Hitler and the Nazis before WWII. It takes a generation or two to Americanize many immigrants.

    • Lee Reynolds

They supported him prior to the start of the war because, like it or not, the German economy rebounded under his watch. Things actually did improve…at first that is. Had he died of a heart attack in 1938, and been succeeded by someone uninterested in pursuing war, he would have been (wrongfully) remembered as one of the great statesmen of the 20th century.

The German Americans who supported him did so not because they loved fascism (though a few undoubtedly did), but because they loved the country their family came from and believed (as did Time magazine at one point) that he was that nation’s savior. Sounds obscenely absurd today, but that’s hindsight for you.

These same German Americans, when Hitler proved himself to be the monster he was, fought bravely to defeat him, including supreme allied commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, whose family name does not come from Surrey.

  • bobbymike34

Where there is misery in the world there is ‘tribal’ or ‘group’ think over individual rights.
What do the Democrats do all the time? Divide us into groups by sex, race and class the better to exploit us.
The most threatened minority is the individual.

  • mirt

Just put “Palestinians” instead of “Somalis”, and watch the article, though remaining completely accurate, turning into absolutely unacceptable.

  • jim

On the bright side, their grandchildren won’t be able to find Somalia on a map.

  • Lee Reynolds

It saddens me that Somalis who have immigrated to the US are sympathizing with Somali pirates, apparently for no reason other than their shared nationality/ethnicity. That’s like Irish Americans sympathizing with the IRA, which sadly some do. Only this is worse. The IRA (nominally) has a political agenda that reasonable people might support were the IRA working towards it through legitimate (aka peaceful) means. Somali pirates are just out being pirates. These pirates are not trying to achieve or accomplish anything other than to prey upon ships that make the mistake of floating too close to Somalia. These pirates should be executed with extreme prejudice. Get rid of them and be done with it.

That being said, I’m not willing to presume that the average person from Somalia feels the way these particular Somalis do.

Let no one forget that Ayaan Hirsi Ali is also from Somalia.

    • ObamaYoMoma

By the way, Ayaan Hirsi Ali apostatized from Islam and the only reason she is still alive today, although not without great expense, is because she was lucky enough to escape to the West.

  • teapartydoc

That’s why they call it ASSimilation.

Last year Somalis in Columbus rioted over a Section 8 sign-up session when some new apartment units were opening. Why in the world do we let them bring their third-world dysfunction here?

    • Micha_Elyi

Last year Somalis in Columbus rioted over a Section 8 sign-up session…

      Q. Why are there Section 8 rent subsidies for Somalis? For anybody?

      A. Because some people have been saying “What difference does it make?” election after election as they stay home sitting on their hands instead of getting off their bums, marching to the polls, and casting their vote for the best choice available.

  • Bill Francis

If you don’t like it here don’t let the door hit your butt on your way out of here.

Somalis, in every nation, have been pushing this pack of distortions since the rise of modern piracy on the east coast of Africa. It was a joke then and it’s a joke now. (Edit: Modern pirate sympathizers are not, I note for the record, limited to Somalis alone.)

  • Zexufang

    Thanks Bill.
Now that the Somalis are HERE – what next?
    ESL classes?
    Job training?
    Housing allowance?
    Public transportation?
    Requisite voter registration?

ALL paid for with tax money.

In short, this was not a “humanitarian” gesture: this was a liberal Democrat-Government Party public jobs – and welfare – program.

    Somalis in America:,

  • ronwf

Actually, there’s a grain of truth there. In fact, factory fishing ships HAVE entered Somali waters and driven out the indigenous fishermen, removing their source of livlihood from them. If they were attacking those boats I would have sympathy for them. But they’re not.

  • DocScience

    Somalis made Somalia a hell-hole.
They don’t change when they move.

Much like liberals leaving California to escape the mess they made. As soon as they register to vote in their new home, they vote for the same policies which destroyed opportunity in California. Blissfully unaware that THEIR choices and beliefs have anything to do with a bad outcome.

    • Micha_Elyi

Much like liberals leaving California to escape the mess they made.

They “escape” by returning to the states which they or their parents originally emigrated to California from. Say “Hi!” to your cousins, DocScience. They’re just like you.

  • gcm

Despite all of the ramblings here, immigrants from a wide range of countries will continue to come to America. I suggest you be the adult and learn how to handle this foregone conclusion. In my neighborhood, we all get along. I suggest the Christians here remember this important passage, considering a number of “vibrants” are Chrisitans–Galatians 3:28–There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave
nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ

  • Barb Smith

You people are completely wrong about everything you’re saying. First of there are cold hard facts showing that the Somolians are running out of fish when fishing is their main industry and that other countries, including the US are drying them out. It is completely sicken I g how much hate and racism is in this article, it is in no way informative and completely biased. Muslim is the fastest growing religion in the world based on the same morals as Christianity and Judaism. IN NO WAY ARE THEY MONSTERS. less then 2 percent were I in the Taliban or terroristic societies. I can not believe that these people are starving and living in shacks and you can degrade them on such a level for being saved by churches like mine. Blame the war lords who are planning these operations not the guy who is doing what he has to do to survive, even if it is horrible. I’m glad to be one of the many people to support the “skinnies” in America and the good ones in Somali

  • NavyVet32

Hahahaha for someone who is writes about “radical” Islam, you don’t know the first thing about global terrorism, and/or Somali piracy. True writers do their research before publishing. There is so much idiocy and ignorance in this piece, I don’t even know where to start; definitely lost a couple hundred brain cells reading this. Thanks for the laugh.

  • BostonBred12

If you actually believed any of that bull, I pray for you. And now the truth:
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, more than 700 foreign vessels have been fishing illegally in Somali waters since 2005. For many situations and stories, the media tends to highlight the effects without explaining a cause. Criticizing the media shouldn’t be equated with being unpatriotic. An overwhelming amount of Somalis loathe the pirates activities going on in their country. Piracy has had negative effects on millions of Somalis—ships carrying food aid and commercial products have been hijacked which in turn has caused domestic food prices to sky-rocket and many to die from starvation. The Somali view is simply this: they are against the piracy but want the underlying problems and causes of piracy to be known so the problem can be better addressed. Little boys born into this war-torn country are forced into piracy (the alternative being death) by area warlords who believe this is the best method to seek reparations for the illegal fishing and toxic waste dumping that has been happening on Somalia’s unmonitored coast for years. If there is any sympathizing, it is for those young sixteen-year-olds who are faced with the option of getting into this business or witnessing their the murder of their loved ones. It is not that difficult people: to better solve any crisis, the full-story must be analyzed.
