The joke here is that Obama actually thinks this matters. Putin doesn’t care about these summits unless he can use them to somehow extract a concession from Obama. If Obama put missile defense in Eastern Europe back on the table, then Putin would care.

But Obama thinks that denying Putin a chance to bask in his glow is a punishment.

President Barack Obama canceled a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin set to be held in Moscow next month, following Russia’s decision to grant asylum to former U.S. contractor Edward Snowden, the White House said Wednesday.

“There are times when they slip back into Cold War thinking and Cold War mentality,” Mr. Obama said of Russia in an interview on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Tuesday night. “What I continually say to them and to President Putin, that’s the past.”

No you idiot. It’s the present.

The present comes out of the past. It’s not some dead book. Russia has always been a geopolitical rival with the countries that are part of NATO. Or as close to always as we need to get into at the moment.

Obama insists that the Cold War is in the past while Putin insists it’s in the present. Which of them is really out of touch with reality?

White House spokesman Jay Carney in a statement said the decision came after the Obama administration “reached the conclusion that there is not enough recent progress in our bilateral agenda with Russia” to hold the meeting.

“Given our lack of progress on issues such as missile defense and arms control, trade and commercial relations, global security issues, and human rights and civil society in the last 12 months, we have informed the Russian government that we believe it would be more constructive to postpone the summit until we have more results from our shared agenda,” the statement said. “Russia’s disappointing decision to grant Edward Snowden temporary asylum was also a factor that we considered in assessing the current state of our bilateral relationship.”

Was there any progress before? No. But this time Putin humiliated him in a way that even got through to the Narcissist-in-Chief.

    How did Obama do it?

From pretty much nonentity, sealed records, dodgy birth certificate, voting present, two books written by someone else and meaningless hack job, buzz word speeches which in reality are quite laughable.

And not forgetting a wife whose Princeton experience was a whitey hell and who was never proud of America until he became President.

Last night I watched a documentary on Stalin’s part in World War Two and the comment that up until meeting Churchill he’d been up against fellow communist travellers and never the top table in global diplomacy.

    It soon changed.

Compared with Stalin, Obama is a rank amateur who riding his semi blackness and not much else, rose to power.

He is Sexy Sadie, he made a fool of every one and to those fools, he’s still the latest and the greatest of them all.

The media put Obama in office. Their non stop campaign to annoint him began after he read that idiotic speech at the Democrat convention back in 06 or 07. They thought they had finally found an honest and presentable Black Democrat but they didn’t vet him at all. He!!, besides being the most corrupt and unqualified President in our history, he isn’t even Black! The Black voting bloc is a joke and there just aren’t enough P.C. fanatics and White guilt trippers to have put that disaster into office once, much less twice. Not even the massive vote rigging corruption of his cabinet and the independent Democrat vote fraud could have put him in office a second time without the non stop media campaign to deify him and demonize Romney.

Could he be any more clueless and inept? He’s probably sobbing on Michelle’s shoulder right now. “Wahh! Vlad is picking on me! Tell him to stop!”

    Putin will
agree to return Snowden if Obama grants asylum to fifty thousand Russian
homosexuals and Chechens. He will also throw in a million Muslim dissidents to
    sweeten the deal.

…and America will be the dumpster of Russia. It couldn’t get any worse.

        Sounds like “Scarface” 2013.

Daniel has got it wrong. Putin is not a ‘cold war horse’. He is a shrewd populist and Russian conservative, who has done a tremendous job in bringing the country from the brink of a disaster it was under Yeltsin. In his version of separation of powers, he (and the political movement he represents) will not allow vast private wealth to be used as a political lever. He does not want confrontation with the US. (which he could have easily had e.g. by occupying Georgia, or overplaying his hand in the Ukraine). So what are the political issues that separates US and Russia under Obama ? Snowden, the radical gay agenda, Pussy Riot ? I only see two: Syria, on which Putin has agreed to a significant compromise, and the stupid missile defence in Eastern Europe which the US could scrap tomorrow without any danger to itself or its allies.

“Russia has always been a geopolitical rival with the countries that are part of NATO.”

Not always. For example during the 1990s, Russia’s then-president, Boris Yeltsin, really tried to maintain good relations with the West. In fact, it was under Yeltsin that most people across the political spectrum in the United States believed that Russia was turning over a new leaf. Yeltsin’s one mistake (and it was a big mistake) was to appoint Putin as his successor, and the only reason why he did that was to appease the obnoxious Communists that would soon form what is now the United Russia Party, which is in essence the modern-day Communist Party of the Soviet Union. If Russia wants to move toward democracy (or at least the democracy that it had under Yeltsin in the 1990s), then the people must depose Putin and his URP politburo and replace the current government with a pro-Western democratic government. I would recommend that Russia’s next president should be the owner of the Brooklyn Nets NBA basketball team. He would be a much better leader than Putin and that’s a fact.

I’m surprised Obummer didn’t played the que…er,gay card. But you can count on a boycott of the Winter Olympics next year…the Snowden Affair will have nothing to do with it,of course.

  • tatave

So mObama spat the dummy. He got a great impression of himself.t might work in the US,but not overseas.Putin knows exactly who Obama is,where if was born etc etc… Who wants to be seen or associated with a ganster?

  • seewithyourowneyes

This is all just optics. Just look at that exaggerated posturing!
The real Obama is the one who whispered to Putin that he would have more flexibility in his second term. Remember that? The real Obama is the one who gave away, asking nothing in return, an Alaskan island to the Russians in his first term. The real Obama is the one who hung out with all the Marxists and the Marxist professors when young, and who refused to make public any of his college papers or theses when running for office. The real Obama is the one who attended Jeremiah Wright’s “God damn America” church for 20 years. The real Obama is relishing the opportunity to get some photos out there of him visibly feuding with Putin, but is loath to administer anything other than a verbal slap on the wrist to get Snowden back.

    • ziggy zoggy

Horsecrap. Putin is showing Obama how the real world works. Only Westerners value political correctness. To the rest of the world, all weakness and stupidity are to be exploited. Obama doesn’t understand his own culture, much less foreign ones. He is a stupid and dogmatic girlyman.

    • Drakken

Putin is laughing at this incompetent lightweight and Putin is playing chess and is 10 moves ahead while Obummer and his wishful thinking minions can’t figure out how to put the pieces on the board for a game of checkers. The Russians in a million years never would have thought that America was this retarded to vote a lightweight incompetent as Obummer is and the of course the Russians are going to play it to the bone, because at the end of the day, what is Obummer really going to do? Send astrongly worded letter?

  • Drakken

Well said, it is too bad that folks can’t see Putin for what he is instead of what he isn’t.
