I was not commenting on the motives of our liberal/progressive politicians nor their defenders.

For as you say, motives are open to interpretation, despite their protestation of always acting for the good of the downtrodden.

My comments are in regard to the results of their policies (abysmal failures all), their in-your-face assertions on every political talking head show in which they appear that conservatives are merely fear-mongering about the future results of their policies (ergo they believe their policies will cause no harm despite reams of evidence to the contrary), and that the bill is coming due despite their willful inattention to what their policies have produced.

I wonder why it is that conservatives so frequently give the other side the benefit of the doubt when it comes to motive. For a variety of reasons assertions of motive are among the least reliable of statements, and that is regardless of source. So, why get into routinely treating verbal assertions of motive as factual?

Greenfield is one of the most astute chroniclers of our national dilemma: a ruling elite convinced good intentions, even after decades of yielding empirically demonstrable abysmal results ranging from a bankrupt nation, rewarding destructive behavior while punishing desirable behavior/achievement, trump any real world practical experience.

Further, our elite's smug egos readily justify slandering any politician or citizen group that attempts to turn the ship of state back to our founding principles. In their mind, anyone attempting such reform is deserving of any and all libel that can be brough to bear by them and their allies in the media, since they believe it settled fact that they are the only ones capable of understanding what needs to be done to improve the lot of the downtrodden. They believe themselves capable of eating the golden goose of the free market system while it continues to lay ever more golden egss.

The rest of us are mere rubes to be kept in control, to be continually fleeced to pay for their grand visions. Winning elections, and re-election, simply reinforces their delusions of omnipotence. For within their power-privileged bubbles, they are oblivious to the degradation of those principles that pay for the programs they so busily implement, if they ever understood those principles at all.

But oblivious or not, they can not change the laws of nature or economics. The bill is coming due, and many people much smarter than I believe that bill will be presented before Obama completes his second term of office.

We are living in a house of cards, with hurricane force winds headed our way. Those winds care not about the radical ideology of the current party in power.

It is to the Republican's eternal shame they can't muster the fortitude to defund some of the worst excesses preventing us from having a fighting chance to survive the coming storm.

The only question remaining, is what will be left after the storm? Will a majority of the voters learn enough from the storm to set the nation back on the course our founder's laid, or will we dissappear into the mist as the Roman Empire did before us?

There is also another round of "make DC a state" nonsense coming.

DC is really rich--DC has perhaps the highest income level in the nation. Odd when a good part of the population has their income paid by the people.

Also has substantive, systemic issues with everything from crime to failing schools etc.

I'll never forget the Summer of 1968, while as an Officer Candidate at Quantico Marine Base, my class was bussed to the Marine Corps Barracks at 8th & I streets to view the annual Sunset Serenade performance by the Marine Band ("The President's Own") and drill company. As President Lyndon Johnson passed within inches of me to move to his seat, during the performance I heard the background noises of urban D.C. several blocks away leaking into the USMC compound at 8th & I -- seemingly continuous sirens punctuated by gunfire. Upon arriving at Quantico, the local news was filled with a story about two newly minted Marine lieutenants -- in dress white uniforms -- being gunned down in D.C. for apparently offending a local resident.

Narrowing the analysis to only Washington DC, what it is, is a city on the take. The government people want to be treated as a social elite, and as any disturbance is apt to make national news, social tranquility is an important outcome. Both goals are reached by papering problems over with money, most of it from the rest of the country. Like our other urban disasters, it is a study of a political machine creating a handout population.

Daniel is describing a Washington power center which has become a law unto itself, a fiefdom. In other words, instead of governing on behalf of the people they are governing to CONTROL the citizens. Obama has become king and his functionaries have become his court.
