Like many people I have zero problem with gay marriage.
What I do have a problem with however is the abuse of the language--the idea that I can't call my spouse "my wife" or my wife calling me her "husband" without running afoul of some directive is chilling.

In order to argue for traditional marriage as opposed to same-sex marriage, we have to shift the argument from the (equality) needs of adult gays to the (parenting) needs of children. Children need both a mother and a father, and this is something a gay union can never give them.

If the issue was only about joining two individuals contractually, nobody would have a problem with gay marriage. But when it comes to the issue of raising (adopted or donor-created) children by two same-sex parents do we have a true cultural shift, and its one that is already creating psychological issues for children raised in that kind of union. Men and women are undeniably different, and fathers and mothers provide different things to their children. On this issue, the gay marriage argument falls apart. Love is not all you need.

By shifting the argument from the adults to the children, we have a winning argument for maintaining a cultural standard that has served humanity for thousands of years.
